This is a serious question that I’ve been wrestling with for a little while now. I’ve been a diehard Destiny player since the Alpha and Destiny has always been the game causing me to miss out on others games.
Even throughout year 1 of Destiny 2, as unhappy with the changes as I was, I still played.
I was so hyped for Forsaken. They were FINALLY fixing all the changes I hated. FINALLY fixing the weapon system.
Once Forsaken dropped I played nonstop for a good month and a half to two months until I hit 600. Within that time my RNG was TERRIBLE. Rarely getting powerful drops that I needed. It was a very un-fun grind.
I initially stopped playing because of the exotic drop rate. After playing constantly from Forsaken’s launch until I hit 600, I received a whopping ZERO Forsaken exotic drops. That wasn’t as big of an issue when I was working my way toward 600, but once I got there it became a huge issue as that was the only thing to play for.
But the real problem I’m having is in getting back into Destiny. I said I was going to start playing again when Black Armory hit but that ended quickly when I realized the new content would require me to grind the same old milestones for weeks until I was high enough to actually do the new content.
So I went back to the other games I’ve been playing (Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has been taking most of my time).
And then I tried to get back into it again.
And stopped again.
So is anyone else having this issue? I feel like something is missing now. Whatever it was that made me want to play Destiny and ONLY Destiny is not there for me. I feel like Bungie overdid it with the grind and can’t seem to find that balance of grind/reward that Destiny 1 had.
If someone else is having the same issue what is it that’s keeping you away?
I love Destiny and WANT to play it but something is just missing.

you feel like something is missing? well you ain't wrong Strikes? you wont be seeing any of those till D3 New Explorable areas? there's that not so secret room in the tower where Ada likes to hide New Crucible Maps? Crucible suks so no good reason to make new ones New story or Cinematics? umm we got a cool Intro Cutscene with Black Armory if that counts, oohhh & Uldren being revided (spoilers)

For me and my friends I think the magic is gone combination of launching with a bland start AGAIN (how the -blam!- they managed that I don’t know) to time gated progression ie
-
I love d2 but every day I lose interest. They lock weapons behind a brocken system. I have a lot of good games like bo4, battlefield, tomb raider,God of War (bought with the money for annual pass, so annual pass for me no ,thank you). The PvP is worse than ever. Pve is just same old grind. I dont know what still keep me in d2 but I think one of these days I will just stop playing and enjoy my other games I have because d2 is going on a wrong path. If I cant get all weapons what Is the point of playing? None!!

3 RepliesIts called burnout, and it happens to all of us. Play something else for a while.

In 2 hours of Gta V i can make about almost $1.5 million. In 2 hours of Destiny I get a powerful legs at 615 when I already have another one at 617 and my helmet is at 610. The rewards are garbage, not to mention how ugly armor is. Nothing to chase, things are time gated, end game is more important then the grind. I haven’t played Destiny in a month now. I’ll probably come back to check out the Last Word, but after that idk.

2 RepliesI have not played since Oct 26th since RDR2 launched...did the same thing when FO4 launched in 2015 but came back 7 months later...just like the freedom of being a solo player and being able to put the game down without being locked down because of the "team Aspect" of Destiny...still in my top game list but sometimes a change does good
-
havent played for some weeks now. i dont feel like that i missed something. you are fine.
-
I stopped playing during curse and just came back whenever I had an itch to play destiny. It’s not bad to take a break. It’s nice to come back to some fresh stuff.
-
Same here, im trying hard to enjoy this game with black armory but i just cant
-
6 RepliesI stopped playing a couple weeks after D2 came out. Still play D1 occasionally though. D2 sucks and I'm glad I left. RDR2 is leaps and bounds and better
-
I got the pass but can’t find it in me to want to do the tedious quest to unlock them. Unlocking them requires year 1 content, it’s a slap to the face
-
1 ReplyYeah me. Got the annual pass and cant even be bothered to play it. At the moment im playing Blackout BO4 and looking forward to BL3 when it finally releases. My friend will also lend me horizon zero dawn which will take my time up. D2 for some reason even though being aesthetically better is not actually better than D1. I dont know why exactly but there is something that D2 is lacking as opposed to D1 and I have been a hardcore D1 player from Day1. Played Destiny literally through all of the expansions.

2 RepliesEdited by twey_ironside: 12/24/2018 12:44:56 AMI have the same issue. I enjoy Destiny most when I have all the items i want and just play for the fun of playing. I don’t enjoy any type of grind with an unknown outcome. I feel I have to play content I don’t enjoy for hours to just to get a draw at the slot machine which usually results in the same boring reward and ultimately makes me feel like I wasted my time. The exotic drop rate without dupe protection is a joke. People defending it usually didn’t have to suffer from it. There is no excitement for me anymore when an exotic engram drops due to the disappointment it will contain. Every expansion will require a boring grind of boring content just to get back to baseline. Armor and ornaments I grinded for in past seasons are not valid anymore. There is still no visual customization and you are basically forced on armor with enhanced perks. The leveling system is the worst I have seen with no intentionality your are stuck with RNG. No sure way to acquire the exotics you actually want with a possibility to now get the once you want ever. The upside is taking a break from Destiny give me so much extra time to do other things. RDR2 let me realize why I enjoyed gaming in the first place.

Same for me.. i have a day hear or there i log in and do milestones.. i do like playing.. just not a daily player anymore.. at one point was in the top 70 on the sherpa board for raids.. still under 200.. that by far was what kept it going for me.. i played a lot when the game was struggling.. something is missing.. just burnt out on it

7 RepliesI seem to always have some existential crisis with "why AM I still playing Destiny?" My friends, my original fire team all through D1 and y1 of D2 has moved on and almost seems hostel to the idea of coming back. They didn't even buy Forsaken. So I have been playing solo for 90%+ since Forsaken dropped. I am almost 650 on my Warlock main, and if not for the new activities each week with the forges and Eververse stuff I would put the game down until the next content drop. I am addicted to the game like an MMO, but I am not enjoying it like I would an MMO. And without my friends playing it almost feels like a job at times. I do not know why I am playing it still. I am very much looking forward to Anthem too.

1 ReplyTo everyone complaining that raids are top mechanic heavy: A) I agree B) Bungie went full in on them to force team play and prevent people from solo doing raids C) Why do you think they killed self res warlocks?

5 RepliesEdited by iliopoulosXD: 12/23/2018 7:50:02 PMIll tell you whats missing. You used to be able to just play casually and the game would open up to you and progress naturally just doing strikes and nightfalls and some crucible And guardians of varying skill levels even Bob your friend who couldnt hit the broad side of a barn with tracking wolf pack rounds could progress at pretty much the same rate and be rewarded for completing activities and relish in incinerating minions of the darkness with light powered space magic. You and your pals enjoyed the content together. Now nothing is casual. Everything is a grind. You dont want Bob to get on because its almost impossible to carry people through content especially if you want to stay current. Thats a big difference. Big. My 2 cents.

The problem with Destiny is that all of the progression is tied to light level. You grind the same activities to gain light level and once you cap out you still only think about light level. They’ve made this game entirely about light level chasing, there’s so much more to do but if you don’t chase light and spend all your time grinding you won’t “progress”. You should be able to play any activity you want and still progress. Light level is the worst aspect of the game right now, for me.

Went through the raid earlier today. Got Hunter Gauntlets 3 times in a row. I gave up that point. Its the same with exotics. Nothing but duplicates. They really need to fix the RNG in this games. Its not fun anymore.

Edited by Karrbomb: 12/24/2018 3:03:04 AMI think it’s several things that keep me away, and it’s not just other games. In D1, the raids were fun, I enjoyed the crucible and played IB every time it came around. I raided 3 times a week at minimum on 3 different characters, basically I ran every activity I could. But all of this changed with D2. The Leviathan was easy once you figured out the mechanics, but it required a team of everyone who could pull their weight and who understood each encounter. Crucible had become an insanely boring 4 vs. 4 team shoot that still had lag. The weapons, well that pretty much spoke for itself. So I quit for more than 6 months. Finally Forsaken dropped and things were feeling a lot better. But after forsaken, the raids still don’t have that fun factor, crucible still lags and the maps now don’t always work for 6 vs. 6 matches. What’s the point for me to play when the end game or competitive activities are boring or just messy? If I want to play a shooter right now, I play BFV. 32 vs. 32 teams with huge maps, destructible everything, planes, tanks and other vehicles, and all with no lag. There’s absolutely no reason other than greed, that a Triple-A title shouldn’t have dedicated servers in today’s day and age. Then I have Assassin Creed Odyssey that I haven’t even started yet. RDR2 that I’m still working on, Shadow of War I still need to start playing, God of War I need to start as well. All that and I still have a couple more holiday sale games I bought that are just waiting to play. As much as I’ve enjoyed Destiny in the past, there’s just nothing there to make me want to play. No matter how good the guns get, the content other than Forsaken, is not enough to make me want to play. Hopefully there’s enough for other people to enjoy, but the raids and crucible used to be the things that kept me busy during the slow times. Now those are things I avoid. I think that’s the biggest reasons for me, but I’m sure there are other things that contribute to boredom I now have for D2.

I knew Black Armory was not going to make it. Same happened to D1. After Taken King (the big DLC), the game just lost content quality, exotics, activities, raid, strikes... Now, after Forsaken (the big DLC), we have Black Armory, with reskinned weapons, poor story, no hype and the Forge...
-
After buying the digital deluxe edition of disappointment I didn't buy Forsaken, deleted D2 and am now playing Blackout and Red Dead. I still enjoy perusing the forums. Looking at the posts D2 is a game very few are happy with but many can't stop playing. Developer dream/player nightmare. Anyways, Merry Christmas

I have a great idea, start a character from scratch, and play through every campaign up until the current content, it’s a great way to get back into destiny. At least for me
-
8 RepliesBlack armoury is time gated, boring trash. The quest to open the 3rd forge has caused quite a few in my clan to put the game down.
-
Dude. Take a break from the game, I took 2 weeks off and I'm not behind at all. Go play something different or even do something different, this game will be here for you and you won't fall behind. I felt like I had to keep my light level at max and there really is no reason for it, you can always get it all back.
-
1 ReplyI think the problem with destiny is the way it makes you grind. It forces you into doing certain activities in order to maximize your power progression. The weekly milestone system is dated and feels more like a weekly chore I need to do on 3 characters. I think a more engaging system would be to remove powerful rewards from the weekly milestones and just have them provide legendary rewards. Now all power increases would come from prime engrams, exotics, and the raid/nightfall once a week. Of course to offset the lose of the weekly milestones and bounty rewards there would need to be a increased drop of prime engrams or just tie them to XP so after every level you received one. Before anyone says it's easy to get to max I had all 3 characters at 650 week 2 of BA so I fully understand the leveling system. It's not that the system is challenging to level up it forces you to participate in activities I might not want to do at that time. Some weeks I'd prefer to run the raid and strikes while others I get into a pvp groove and want to do that all week but now when you log on it's like you have a chore list that I need to do this, that, and this and only after I've completed all of it I can play how I want to play.
