I was born in England. I often get told I should feel proud to be English. Why?
Why am I supposed to blindly support the bit of land I was born on?
When the World Cup was on, I really couldn't give a toss about how England done. I just wanted club football back... I got called all sorts of things for this.
If you couldn't already tell, I think nationalism and patriotism suck. I honestly don't get it?
"Support our people first" okay but who are "our people"? My neighbour? The person who lives over the road? The people who live 300 miles away in Manchester? It just doesn't make sense to me.
Anyway, thanks I guess if you have read this far.

I think your feelings are valid.

Edited by NeoIcarus1: 11/16/2018 7:36:08 AMYour not, but should have pride in your country and the people that live there. Patriotism comes in when your country goes to war or makes a decision that is different from other countries. Not sure what issues are making you think you are blindly following your country. In wartime your patriotism is supporting your troops even if you think its wrong reason. Your countrymen going off to war need your support at all times. You can tell people you dont support the war, if you dont, but you support your troops. They are asked to do something that maybe you dont agree with but your government has asked them for one reason or another. This is patriotism. People should have patriotism for their country. Every countries culture is different. You should have pride in that. Your government doesnt define the people that live there. Countries have terrible governments but the people that live there aren't terrible people. They just dont have the necessary ability to overthrow that terrible government. They have pride in their culture and patriotism for their country despite the terrible government they may have. Patriotism is love for or devotion to one's country. Ask yourself what is it you love about your country. I have been to Britain and lived there as a child, your country is gorgeous. Your country has been courageous during times of war. Your stout people that during bad times you come together and do whats best. Watch the movie Dunkirk, during the end your countrymen rescued their children and others to fight another day. This will show you what you maybe missing about your country.

Edited by Green Twister: 11/15/2018 10:31:29 AMWe are more united with other countries than we where earlier days maybe it would matter more if we where at war but i don't feel like i need to hate other countries just because " i wasnt born there. "

10 RepliesThe England today's nothing to be proud of. England's history however is pretty -blam!-ing impressive
-
8 RepliesDude. I 100% agree with everything you’ve just said. I don’t particularly like patriotism or nationalism. It’s just a little silly imo.
-
1 ReplyNationalism is what’s bad. Patriotism is good. Patriotism is taking pride in who you are and respecting the sacrifice of all who fought and died for your right to live.

Edited by LahDsai: 11/16/2018 1:27:30 AMI get the same thing from my mom.
Do you ever think of moving back home?
Moving "back home" where? The US? The east coast? Virginia? The county I grew up in? Someday, as we spread across the stars, "back home" will mean planet Earth, the Solar System... hell, even the Milky way. As it is, we're 10 minutes from my in-laws, so it's not like we're away from family. If anything, moving closer to my parents would likely make us further from family. I'm already "home".

When the World Cup was on, I really couldn't give a toss about how England done.
Ikr, exact same here. Is it just me that sees that patriotism has killed millions of people (ww1, ww2...) Almost all wars throughout history have been because of patriotism, they wouldn't have been wars without it, only petty squabbles.

4 RepliesIt’s what the Illuminati want you to do, so they can remain in power without worrying about revolution
-
2 RepliesFair enough. I would then suggest you do some independent reading up on your country. How she came to be, what she’s been through to become what she is now. If that’s something you feel you can be proud of, then there’s nothing wrong with feeling patriotic. If you don’t, then if you feel that strongly about it, I’d suggest finding somewhere else you could feel proud of possibly raising a family in and eventually dying in.
-
6 RepliesYou shouldn’t - patriotism is pointless. But you should try to ensure your country is the best it can be - elect the right people, support the right causes, defend the best aspects and reject the worst. You have to live in it after all (and your children have to live in it).

1 ReplyEdited by Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 11/15/2018 1:38:45 PMHumans are still fairly tribal. At this point, for the vast majority of people it’s taking pride in and defending something they took no part in actually creating.

2 RepliesThis basically boils down to: Why should I be a nationalist? Short answer: You shouldn't be. Nationalism is a cancer. Support all peoples, care about the world, not just your country. If everyone cared about everyone else, the world would be a much better place.

... Didn't Ugandan Knuckles say something about this?...
not included in the DLC
Patriotism is good, blind nationalism is bad however, be patriotic, but don’t be nationalistic
-
1 ReplyBecause those people have zero personality or creativity so they latch onto each other and shun everyone else out of spite
-
Feel the Same here, im probably the only person in the family to openly admit that this country is -blam!-ed in more ways then Activision has schemes to get your money. Everone else tends to be, "eh whats wrong with England?".
-
1 ReplyI love my country but I’m aware of its many flaws.
-
You don't have to agree with what your country does, if it's in the wrong. Dissent is the highest form of patriotism.
-
5 RepliesI don’t “blindly” follow my country, but I still say the national anthem and respect the flag. I see it less as a sign of nationalism and more as a sign of support and respect for those who died.
-
only patriotism I will tolerate is to those that kill a god (or do something similar) but even then thats only if they won't kill me after they do said deed
-
6 RepliesLet’s just ban flags and put racist connotations on them 🤨 Oh wait 🤔

3 RepliesDamn invading bloody wankers......

WAKE UP SHEEPLE

2 RepliesI know exactly how you feel. This mentality stems from people always wanting to label and segregate ourselves. We're all human beings, on the same planet. I could have very easily been born anywhere else so why should i be crucified for wanting to be neutral. Why be looked down upon because i don't think the place i just happened to be born is the greatest place ever?

1 ReplyThink of it as “societal selection.” Societies that convince their members to want to be apart of it will have members willing to die for it, etc. -possibly dumb thought off the top of my head
