As topic says....
I die from it as much as I kill with it.
Just deal with it and join in. It’s super fun
Have people thought of tracking rockets? They are fire and forget in the right hands.
As a matter of interest, is it solo players who want the nerf more so than team players
If it is to get a nerf or “changes” guardians will just find another weapon to use, and that’s when the cycle will start, and then where will it end.
#leavesleeperalone
Edit:
This is how it all started back in D1...
Don’t let it happen again
Edit 2:
Great comments guys for and against, remember it’s the best gun for dps from range, just so happens it’s good for the pvp aspect as well.
Edit 3:
Let’s hope bungie get this right, I mean nerf it for pvp but don’t take away one of the best heavy weapons in the game in pve.
Edit 4:
So bungie tweeted about the sandbox team looking in to POSSIBLE changes.
Had some suggestions from you guys.
Change the heavy ammo economy for gambit, maybe one heavy drop per round.
Only allow heavy to drop when the primeval spawns in.
Have heavy ammo taken away when you invade.
Over 500 upvotes wow guys this is great.
Great discussion, people do have some good points for the pros and cons of the sleeper

Just adjust Sleeper's ammo from gambit heavy bricks one brick one shot It will slow it way down but leave its power untouched. It will make other heavys that get more ammo look better.

3 RepliesThe hit box is way off. You can hit people without even being close .
-
3 RepliesHonestly some of the problem is playing as a solo player and running into a team of four that can communicate and play better with their teammates. Some games can't be changed just by a gun. There could also be 2 different playlists where one is for 1-3 person team and another for fireteams of 4. I have been in several games where I am playing solo and the enemy team gets motes, blocks our team out with a bunch of small blockers and some large, then just burns down their primeval. I think this could also alleviate some qualms among players without introducing any nerfs!
-
1 ReplyEasier fix...Lose all heavy when traveling through the portal. The invader gets a tanky over-shield and he can see where everyone is; clearly does not need heavy to score kills.
-
Chances are the changes will be underwhelming and only impact Gambit Three ideas of what they could do: 1) max ammo capacity changes in this game mode 2) body shots down to a sliver of health 3) No longer kills a guardian in super It will still be viable, you just can't go on a repeated rampage. We all love the gun, and I've given it up to use wavesplitter. But sometimes when i'm hiding in my cave while I watch my team get laser beamed away, I wish I had it equipped so I could do something other than go out of cover and roll the dice on being mapped.

Edited by GiiantTurtleWave: 9/18/2018 4:34:27 PMLmao. Screw it, at this rate just nerf any powerful weapon. Now it’s the Sleeper, then it’ll be Whisper of the Worm, then it’ll be the Ikelos Shotgun, and so on and so on. This game is burdened with continuous outcries for “balance” just to be criticized because exotics & legendaries don’t have any impact. It’s cool though, Black Ops 4 releases next month, and there’s a wealth of other FPS to migrate to. Edit: Grammar

Gotta love the forums! “Waaaaaaa nerf Sleeper!!!” Bungie: “Gotcha! We’re looking in to it!” “Waaaaaaaa leave Sleeper alone!!!!” .......
-
No, it's ridiculous in Gambit and will definitely get a nerf. Almost every single one of my Gambit matches have 4 or more people using it because it's easy kills. Just require a head shot to kill a full health Guardian and it won't be nearly as popular. It'll still be devastating in PvE.
-
2 RepliesI just wish it wasn't the only weapon people would use. Haven't been invaded by a super, or a rocket launcher, or a sniper rifle in a while.
-
Just wait for the thousand voices to be in everyone's pocket then they will really complain lol
-
Sleeper should be left alone. Remove the tracking and marking thr invader gets and lower the invasion time by 5 seconds. Problem solved. Sleeper is super strong but seeing the enemy location is even stronger. If they chose not to remove the marking of enemy guardians at least have it blink on and off on a 4 second interval.

See, but nobody ever tries to sit down and think about why sleeper deserves some kind of a nerf. Let's get into that shall we: Pros: highest single shot damage in the game. Hit-scan. Ammo efficient. Can carry a lot of ammo in reserves. Can effectively one shot a supered guardian with an overshield with a headshot. Can one shot a guardian outside of super with a bodyshot. Can 2 shot the wizards once their shield are taken out in gambit. Has a long range scope to go with it. Can kill 3/4 the team in a single magazine without any special things needed to be done to kill them, such as headshots. Can sometimes glitch and go straight through a sentinels guard or barricades. Cons: A rather long charge time. Takes up an exotic slot. (The argument that it requires you to constantly track your enemies with your gun to kill them is flawed because you would be doing this anyways) It has a big obvious projectile that can give your position away. Now, I listed a lot more pros than cons, but my problem with the weapon ISN'T it's power nor it's range. It's how much ammo it gets. The heavy pick up gives 3 rounds to sleeper, which gives invaders or invadees a stupid amount of chances to kill enemy guardians. Each ammo brick also gives 3-4 ammo and can sometimes spawn oftenly with heavy ammo finder. Now, based off of what I said above, you should be able to understand what I mean now. It's too effective and efficient unlike any other power weapon. It does nearly double the damage of rockets, but gets more than 2 times the reserves and 3x the magazine of rockets that also have to deal with travel time. This particular weapon can also still be used to clear ads with ricochet, not very effectively, but still doable. If it's going to be that powerful, reduce the ammo it receives as it's nerf. 1 ammo from the pick up and 2 from ammo bricks. This is a huge nerf in gambit, but since gambit is a separate entity, it doesn't have to get effected in the other 2 game modes. I don't want sleeper to be nerfed in anything but gambit Everywhere else it's fun, effective, and I love it.

Edited by diaboliC NOR: 9/18/2018 4:02:40 PMSince sleeper is crap in pvp i dont agree with a nerf to the weapon. But its a huge problem in Gambit, there is no denying that(from objective people). Its only good because of the truesight you get as an invader, and its high damage coupled with no effective range. This enables you to one-shot everyone, with perfectly timed sleeper shots from a far. Since this weapon is mainly used mid to close range in pve for boss damage and «big targets», and its easy to use with a low zoom you can nerf without destroying its pve strenghts. My suggestion is give it less effective range. You should not be able to one-shot anyone from a long range, and because of the charge time its not ideal in pvp situations up close or mid range. You can still net kills, but you can get outplayed very easily. This way sleepers power is kept for PvE purposes, still usable in gambit, but it wont be nearly as effective to pick out the enemy one by one as it is now.
-
1 Reply-blam!- naw sleeper needs a nerf in gambit if the opposing team has more sleepers then your team, you lose in Dps 100% of the time, the thing is the easiest gun to use while invading and being invaded no doubt in my mind that gun NEEDS a nerf at least in gambit
-
Honestly I wouldn't mind a sleeper ammo balance/nerf in gambit. There should be a tradeoff for using a easy high range one hit kill weapon in PvP, even if it's exotic. The sleeper is like running around with an op golden gun. I use it myself since it is the best option and I can save my super for the boss/ads. But I'd like to see some more veriety and skill from players using snipers, linear fusions etc. But whatever you do Bungie DO NOT nerf the damage, it won't make any sense for a exotic laser beam to not be one shot in PvP and poor damage in pve. Just put the ammo count under control.
-
1 ReplySeriously. They're going to destroy this gun just because people cry about getting killed by it in Gambit. Meanwhile literally any linear fusion rifle and sniper can do the EXACT SAME THING and one shot guardians across the map. Sleeper probably just gets the most use.. Tl;Dr: people are scrubs that need to git gud, shut up, or play some other game/ game mode. So sick of goddamn nerfs
-
There are ways to do this nerf right. So no, don't leave it alone
-
Spartan Laser targeting.. laser? It can still do as much as it does, but that would broadcast your location a bit easier in Gambit and wouldn't change dps anywhere else.
-
thing is, it completelly brokes the flow of a gambit match, because if one team has 4 sleepers, at the moment the buff to the primal is at x4, the team that wins is the one that spams the r2 or rt or left mouse faster, giving you no chance at invade them and make the kills to recover some health, it happens a lot in this instance that you invade and no matter if you have a sleeper to, they have 4, that kills you in a body shot, from the other side of the map, and has no travel time like say, a rocket, same the other way around in the early stages of the match, at 25 and 50 motes, they invade you, and kill you before you start to think of a way of dealing with him or her, and i am by no means an average player in pvp, in crucible it´s fine, but in gambit it´s overpowered for the flow of the game.
-
my only suggestion is to make Sleeper require head shots to kill in pvp, rather than i hit you in body you died, or have a damage fall of from it. As it stands its a sniper that doesn't need you to be the greatest of shots to have aim on it. That being said, it feels like in gambit, that you need to have it for bosses, and invading if you wanna be effective, and kill as many players as you need, or bosses, that should change, you should bring whatever weapons you feels comfortable in gambit, not just one because it does it all. anyway my suggestion lower the body shot damage, but buff the head shot damage on it.
-
It doesn't need to be nerfed. Even if it does, do it only in PvP/Gambit. When somebody invades with the sleeper, I hide, and I can outshoot them close range with even a precision handcannon. Think about the PvE sides of things. Stop nerfing, start buffing. I loathe gambit and the crucible, I only play it because of the newly introduced daily milestones, not even a round more. And I'm pretty sure that the majority of the playerbase is with me on this one. Except for the PvP elitists, that is.
-
Just make power bricks give the sleeper 1 charge instead of the normal. That will promote other weapons that can get more ammo per brick and make it so teams need to negotiate on who gets the 1 sleeper shot to invade. Note that no ammo armor mods can effect the Sleeper in any way except the heavy ammo drops (those still grant only 1 round). The Lord of Wolves is not effected by shotgun ammo mods on armor so why not the Sleeper in Gambit? This system will still make Sleeper relevant and should promote other heavy weapon play.
-
Nope sorry, it needs a Nerf for pvp. Plain and simple.
-
Just make it a headshot kill anyone can get a body shot
-
Edited by reegeee: 9/18/2018 4:22:05 PMIt does need to be rebalanced technically, but I still agree with the OP. Let's not go down this road again. The only thing that I would agree with nerf wise would be a change to ammo - in gambit only
