Bungie is not some money grubbing evil entity. They are game developers in the BUSINESS of making video games. They, just like you, provide a good or a service with the intent of making a PROFIT from their efforts. In order to do this to as large a market as possible they are published by a VERY large game publisher. Activision. Activision too is in the BUSINESS of making money. They, just like you provide a service with the intent of making a PROFIT. Both Bungie and Activision are guilty of putting the BUSINESS aspect of game development and release ahead of the CREATIVE and COMMUNITY aspect. They attempted to maximize PROFITS by releasing a "new" iteration of their game, long before it was ready. They were not content with the steady stream of revenue from the D1 community and were unwilling to continue to build on the foundation they created with that game. D2 HAD to have been in development prior to year 3 D1. We pretty much know this to be a fact. So do yourselves a favor, take a huge step back and think about what this would mean for D2 as a game. Trust me, if you look at it from a different angle, you will understand exactly why the game we got is in the state that it is in. Think about what we got at launch. Almost NONE of the real improvements to endgame/gameplay in D1 year 3 are in D2. And there is a severe lack of content to compliment the new systems that they did add to the game. This game was too far along in its development to have all of the things that made year 3 great. Which is why these features are absent from D2 and only in the planning stages. Mods are a cool idea. They are just very limited and poorly implemented. Fixed rolls and the new weapon slots, again, a FAR superior system to D1 in regards to balance and gameplay. The problem? Not nearly enough content and the content that is available is far too easy to obtain. The only way a system such as this works is if you have 3-5 times the amount of content, with a lot of variety and interesting ways for obtaining it, I.E. (the grind). Without a lot more content. Everything feels stale and boring. Which is why the system isn't fun for a lot of people IMO. If mods were way more relevant, and you truly could customize your guns(people wanted forging in D1, or rerolling so they didn't have to "grind", which is why all this talk of random rolls is stupid), make them your own, via modding. Then people would not want the silliness of random gun rolls, especially if were multiple configurations with different perks. Actually, this is already in the game. People just ignore archtype and get hung up on what something is named. Guns that share the same arcetype but have different perks ARE the equivalent to "random" rolls. So in a lot of cases you can actually see the difference between what you could have. There just simply is not enough out there. Same with in game events and PvP maps. They did not release the game with enough variety. And I would bet, this is because they were scrambling to put out D2 for marketing reasons. Not creative ones. The point I am making? All of the critique and outrage is valid. The Destiny COMMUNITY has a right to be upset that the developer and publisher chose PROFIT over CREATIVITY. It's a really shitty way to do business. And it always results in a less than stellar product. Are they simply out to screw us? No. And people who spout that nonsense are simply being foolish. They want PROFIT. It does not behoove them, in the long term, to purposefully dick over the player base. What we have seen in the past 6 months is TERRIBLE management and very, VERY poor development strategy. At the very least the people who made a lot of these decisions should be demoted, there is no excuse for launching the game in this state. And a very good case could have been made for a delay with year 4 of D1 being just a fun, but dev supported free for all. I would hope that at this point, the devs are focused on stabilizing the game in terms of content and activities. If it is going to last, and they can't really add too many more activities to the game. Then the mod system needs to be fully implemented before the next expansion. Otherwise they will keep running into the problems they have with any live event. Not enough content to make it worthwhile. [/quote] D2 was developed for profit, not as an expansion of the community or the game. That is LITERALLY what I said in my post. My opinions as to why the game systems we got feel unfinished are just that, opinions. I have no love for Bungie or Activision. But I really did love D1 at the end. The reason this game was a step back all comes down to business decisions, not creative ones. And yes that is a problem. Pull your heads out of your butts and realize, however, that this is not to simply screw players. That makes no sense, business or otherwise. It is just bad development. And I see clients do it all the time. They make decisions based on expansion of usersbase as opposed to allowing that to come from maintaining a good relationship with their existing users.
