reaction to the State of the game blog post

well.. More tokens, heroic , more tokens in prestige activities a kill counter on legendary weapons, with some other random perk more stuff to collect, but .. no real changes that the community has been telling you since the poorly received beta(putting it very mildly), many months ago. I guess any more changes than fluff, would be too much to ask for. Your answer is deafening. MOAR TOKENS !!!!! the community goodwill built up from as far back as marathon, to where you left Halo. All of it pissed up against a wall since the D2 beta This game and company are truly dead to me. This has become the No Mans Sky of looter shooters. Randy Pitchford is frikin' Honest John next to you guys.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08XaeBUA1wY Relevant. We get it, it isn't what you wanted. Don't really care how much you use the word community. People wanted the stuff they talked about and they acknowledge that the others didn't make it but are being worked at.

I'm skeptical because Bungie is Bungie, but I'm genuinely confused here. They're adding a way to purchase vendor stock. Players have been asking for that They're reintroducing random rolls (which will either be great or suck). Players have been screaming for that. They're letting you generate orbs with the new weapon tier which is an indirect way of decreasing super cool downs. They're looking at Prestige rewards. Players asked for that. They're also going to making other quality of life improvements They gave a timeline of when the things are going to happen and said they're going to try to communicate better and you wrote that off as more tokens and fluff? What?

          • Yes, this company needs to hand over the rights. Evey day that goes by they have shown they don't know WTH they are doing other then knowing how to lie to their player base.

            • More cry baby bullshit. Bottom line, you don't like the game, stop playing. You don't think the changes they are planning are enough, stop playing. I have never seen a more entitled bunch of crybabies. It's pathetic. Leave the forums and stop playing. Go play something you like. Personally, I already love the game as it is as I am like 500 hours in with over 8 and half days spent in the raid. The changes they are implementing are solid and are a step in the right direction. I realize it will take time for all the changes to be implemented, and moreover there is simply no pleasing some people. Everyone wants to blame greedy publishers but gaming communities have become so bloody toxic it is hard for me to really give a damn about the community at this point. I love Destiny 2. I love the Leviathan Raid. The Prestige raid and challenges are fantastic and I cannot wait to see what this new Raid lair has in store. Destiny 2 is a huge improvement over vanilla Destiny and I have full faith that Bungie will continue to improve D2 with each update and DLC. Again, bottom line, if you don't like D2, stop playing it. It's really that simple. Go play some garbage like CoD or Fortnite or some other nonsense that doesn't even to begin to match the excellence in gunplay and mechanics that you will find in Destiny.

              • I've thought about this, not a lot, but enough. Honestly, I would have been A LOT happier with the game if D2 was just an expansion of D1. You know the 10 year plan of an ever expanding universe called Destiny? Give me all my old content and mechanics back with the addition of the new story line of D2 and the new maps etc... 4v4 crucible (not a fan) along side of 6v6 and 3v3 trials. It's hard to understand how they thought this was better than year 3 of D1. I think we can thank the addition of the PC to Destiny for the complete reboot, I imagine it would be have a lot of work to get a decent port of D1 up and running but honestly that's what they should have done. We all would be better off today. As of the state of it now, I get that D2 was in it's own development stream, but to completely ignore all the progress made in 3 years of D1 cast it aside and start over again with this is mind numbing to me. I'm confused, and as much as I hope they can fix it, I'm not sure they can without major, major changes. Anyway, for those that have the expansions, I hope you enjoy them, but I'm glad I didn't buy them. I'll be back if/when they fix the game which will likely be fall of next year, assuming it survives and funding isn't pulled. Crossing my fingers that what used to be my favorite game returns...

                • My opinion there is no reason to keep this game on my console. I bought D2 with the first DLC but from the lack of meaningful changes mentioned in the state of the union this game is just not going to be fun. I logged in last night for the first time in anout a month and all I could stand was to complete two public events. I had hoped that the community could force bungie to change cource but they are now trying to fool everyone by saying they have heard us and are making changes. Seriously....the changes are all cosmetic. I wish bungie would be honest with the community and explain that they can not make the meaningful changes almost everyone wants (6v6, Weapon Rolls, etc...) because they would have to start from scratch and that would take years.

It's a step in the right direction. More open communication regarding what's being worked on/improved is what this playerbase needed. However, there were still quite a few things that were not addressed, or still somewhat lacking, in the blog post. Mod System, weapon rolls, and customization: ➡While the Masterwork Weapon Tier is a nice touch, it will need to be expanded on. It will need to have more variety, not just generating Orbs on mulitkills and a random stat increase. There could be one that helps ability cooldowns with kills from that weapon, or one that can heal your allies, or jump start their health recovery, when you shoot at them (although, that would probably be better as an exotic weapon ability). Additionally, the mod system itself will need an overhaul for better depth. Additional mod slots for various types of mods, like customization or replacement of weapon sights, and rate of fire change (similar to the Phase Magazine perk that can be found on 3 particular submachine guns). If I may also add, Kinetic and Elemental Mods should allow you to change a weapon from a Kinetic to an Energy weapon, and vice-versa. ➡Weapon rolls require some fixing as well. As they are, they lack diversity and personality. Not nearly as "individually handcrafted" as they were promised to be. There's hardly a difference between them, Better Devils aside. One way to address this is with a more synergetic perk tree. If a weapon has a perk like Kill Clip as its main, then it would stand to reason that it should have a perk that involves faster reloading to allow this perk to shine more. Regarding Raid weapons, they need a much more refined, and unique, perk tree to set them apart from the usual legendary weapons, and to make them more worth the effort to obtain them. ➡On a side note: I am still concerned about the lack of variety in Sword Types. Nearly all of the swords are Adaptive Frame. The only 2 that aren't are the Titan's Aggressive Frame Sword, Crown-Splitter, and the Hunter's Lightweight Frame Sword, Quickfang. Not only are those 2 the only swords of those types, they don't even have any unique, class-specific abilities to warrant them being restricted to those classes. We need more Lightweight and Aggressive Swords, and for the 3 class-specific swords to have unique perks geared towards their respective class. For example, replace Quickfang's awful En Garde perk with one that grants it bonus damage and lunge range after using Dodge, and another perk that recharges Dodge with kills or consecutive hits. Crucible: I can't stress this enough; we need to have the option to choose which Crucible mode we want to play. There was no reason to change this from the first game. If need be, add new or previous game modes, whether it's Rift, Combined Arms, Mayhem, Inferno, Doubles, or something entirely new. The Mercy Rule also needs some work. It still doesn't function right. If a match is 20-60, or 13-30, it should call an end to the match, or at least put a Vote to End Match function in there that requires the winning team to have a 20-25+ score with a 10 or 15 score lead against the losing team to use it. Sandbox changes: There was no mention of this anywhere in the blog post, even though there is a dire need for one. Pulse Rifles, Grenade Launchers, and Snipers, are underwhelming at the moment, and require attention. Fast-firing pulse rifles don't have enough range to compensate for their low damage, and slow-firing Pulse Rifles don't deal enough damage to make up for their rate of fire. Grenade Launchers don't deal enough damage to make them a better choice over even a fusion rifle. The massive flinch and wonky handling of snipers makes them obsolete; I'd rather use a Linear Fusion Rifle than a sniper. Subclasses: From the weak grenades to the Supers, some subclasses are underperforming. Particularly Dawnblade, Sunbreaker, and Arcstrider. ➡Dawnblade's main problems are the Super, and Attunement of Sky. The Super, Daybreak, is almost unusable without the Fated for the Flame Perk. Its duration is too short, the projectiles consume too much energy, and the projectile drop/arch is too steep, and happens too fast, making it much more inaccurate than Hammer of Sol. It needs an increase to duration, or a decrease to the energy consumption of the projectiles. When using Attunement of Sky, the Winged Sun Perk should allow the projectiles to travel in a straight path, and Heat Rises should increase the projectile damage or radius, when using it in the air. As for Attunement of Sky, itself, for something built around aerial combat, purposely making in-air weapon accuracy terrible is counterproductive; it makes this Attunement garbage. Winged Sun should innately increase weapon accuracy and stability while airborne, so that the perk can actually have a functional purpose. One last thing I would add is a change to the flame streaks created by the Fated for the Flame perk. Rather than a single streak, the projectiles should create a continuous one, like Thermite Grenade, on impact. ➡Sunbreaker's Super suffers from a similar problem; energy consumption, duration, damage, and damage radius. For that, I would suggest an increase to the base duration, or a decrease to the energy consumption per hammer throw. Have Vulcan's Rage increase Hammer of Sol damage radius, and Tempered Metal increase the damage of Hammer of Sol, with kills, and have it stack per kill. Then, buff the Sunspots created by Sol Invictus and Endless Siege with a longer duration, a larger radius, or increased damage. ➡Arcstrider's main problem is the mobility and range of the Super. Deadly Reach should grant you increased lunge or dodge range after a kill with Arc Staff, and Lethal Current should grant you an ability, similar to the Sentinal's Shield Throw, where you can throw the Arc Staff like a spear. On impact, it unleashes an Arc Pulse, chaining Arc Lightning to nearby enemies, and like Shield Throw, it should have a cooldown. Lightning Reflexes should boost your sprint speed during Arc Staff after dodging. ➡The other problem is the grenades. Many of them are weak, and offer nothing but an inadequate amount of damage. A fun way to buff these would be to give them an additional effect, rather than a damage buff. The explosion from Fusion Grenades should grant a temporary defense debuff to an enemy they attach to. Flux Grenades should temporarily slow an enemy when they attach and explode. When a Magnetic Grenade attaches to an enemy, the first explosion should unleash a magnetic pulse that pulls in surrounding enemies towards the one its attached to, then deal AoE damage with a larger secondary explosion. Skip Grenades should push back enemies they damage, and Swarm Grenades should lift enemies up into the air. Voidwall Grenade should produce a wall of Void energy as tall as the Titan's Towering Barricade, for better area denial. Thermite Grenade should fan out rather than just travel in a straight line. There are a few other points I would like to touch on, but I'll stop here.

                    • Lowest numbers I've seen yet on tracking sites. Uniform hate for the way they announced their so called "moving forward"... I bet they actually think this was well received... They need to get it through their heads their options are "do some of the things that fans are asking for, or shut down the servers and pack up the office, and hand the keys to activision on the way out. The return to the primary, special, heavy system isn't going to happen, not only that but the game's coding probably won't allow for it, they'd have to rebuild the whole thing. But instead of saying "hey uh, we're wrong, lets fix what we can..." they're trying to inch off the decisions they made instead of turning around and going another direction. They want to see just how little they can do so that they can pretend they were right all along, when what they need to do is just accept that was a bad decision and move on from it. I can tell you some of the worst military, political, governing, and even business disasters in history have come from being too rigid in sticking to an objective. Sometimes you have to lose the battle to win the war.

                      • I totally agree with this post, and what many others have said in the comments below. The entire game feels dull, and lacking compared to D1. This means everything, with the exception of some story elements. The gameplay itself is drastically different, and not in a good way. The systems in the game are drastically different, also not in a good way. The weapons system for example, is dramatically worse. Give us fixed rolls, at the same time reducing the amount of weapons. At least it feels like there is a significant drop in the amount of weapons. Maybe it is due to one weapon slot being over populated, the old heavy slot that has too many weapons stuffed into it. Or perhaps the same weapon types for two slots now. Plus, there does not seem to be any truly fun and exciting weapons of any type. No Ice Breaker, Black Hammer, Gjallarhorn type weapons. No strike specific fun weapons either. Then the armor, which feels a lot like what I mention here with the weapons. Bland and lacking any creativity or fun. When playing the game now, no bounties, rather just planet specific activities, that are way to spread out. Bounties could allow a player what they wanted to do, rather than having to complete 3 challenges of whatever type. Crucible feels like a completely different game, and far worse than D1. PvP was always a fun side activity as mentioned in the main post. Now it is all about huddling together as a 4 man team to team shoot the other team. That is the only strategy here. 6v6 was dramatically better, and th maps more engaging. Vendors are broken, weapon system is broken, armor system is broken, power level versus light lievel is broken, crucible is broken, basically the entire game feels broken. The only while thing it has going for it is that I have friends I can play with, but since launch over half the clan has stopped playing regularly. This may seem like a rant, but I am not alone it would seem. Took everything that D1 had going for it, and flushed it away. Feels like a major step backwards, and the tiny fixes are not enough. Took a game that was on the verge of graduation, and sent it back to kindergarten!!

My interpretation of the blog post: Look at this piece of crap, we've polished it up, and added a few peanuts to the left side. We even put it on a porcelan plate accented with gold foil, and a milky white glaze (vex milk sickos). And we've been listening to you, we know it stinks, so we added one of those freshener plugs that squirts a puff out once a week. We noticed some parts were drying out, so we added some water to those areas to smooth things along. We know its still just a piece of shit, but we're listening to you and will be more transparent about how we will decorate it in the future. Ok, more transparency. Why don't I see a stack of 25 threads with "bungie reply" when I sort the forum by 'trending'? Where are the developers engaging with the community, telling us when a suggestion is a good idea, or explaining why something can't be done? They obviously made the decision to be more transparent more than a day ago. Today should have been spent on the forum, smoothing things over directly. Oh yeah, some dumbass signed an agreement that says Activision gets total control of public relations...

Okay. For me the biggest issue is this: Bungie made Destiny 1. It was a flawed game by their own admission to begin with but over 3 years they refined it and when D2 came around it was in a pretty good state (PVP meta aside). Then comes Destiny 2 and it’s oddly missing some of those improvements made to Destiny 1. Y’know the Destiny 1 that was flawed by their own admission. The one where the story was changed at the last minute. The one where they didn’t know what Destiny 1 was going to be. They were learning on the fly. So why is Destiny 2 carrying some of those same flaws? Or even worse, why has it changed some of the systems and mechanics that worked so well? Why is it that only now things from D1 are getting re-added to D2? Heroic Strikes, Private Matches, Three Of Coins, Ornaments and the main one for me.... the Iron Banner reward system. How many iterations of the Iron Banner reward system did we see in D1 over 3 years? It was a bunch. Yet D2 decided to forego that refinement process and give us what we have. Only in Season 2 will we see a better system but... they already learned this lesson in D1. The only conclusion I can make is that I’ve teleported into an alternate dimension where D1 was never refined over 3 years and Bungie are only now learning these lessons for the first time. I want my old reality back! PUT ME BACK!!!

                          • The panic is real on Bungie headquarters, acknowledging that fact was a step forward. Better yet, we "the complainers", the bad numbers of player retention in the game and several other factors combined, forced them to acknowledge that they are backed against the wall and the time is running against them. I have the dlcs, so i`ll stick around and check for the changes, after that if FUN isn`t reinstated in the game i`ll just move on to other games. The game needs a deep overhaul and i don`t know if they can do it, guess we´ll just have to wait but the wait may prove to be fatal for lots of players.

                            • It’s a start, but if that’s all they are going to deliver we will be in the same spot 2 months from now. I assume they have a set team for what was in “The State of Destiny 2” post working on that, and another trying to fix the bigger problems by the beginning of DLC 2. That seems reasonable to me and fair to Bungie and D2 players. Time will tell, but they can’t afford anymore Community backlash that is for sure.

I was going to put together a larger topic myself on my thoughts of what I have read earlier today, but I think this thread should suffice for getting my thoughts out there. First and foremost, I do not believe that this "update" comes with any kind of a surprise, if you were looking for something new that they already hadn't told us about and you thought today's blog was a direct result of this, you're mistaken, they posted a very similar list a month and a half ago on a weekly update, and this is why I'm exceptionally disappointed in Bungie, you guys can fool some people, but trust me, that's not going to work on me. What I saw today was just pure damage control at this point because the community is in an uproar on the terrible state this game has been left in. So, I'll drop a TL;DR quickly here for those looking for my quick feedback, abandon ship now and take a peek when the first major expansion (TTK Scale, Next September) comes out because the short term isn't going to improve period, but remain vocal on these forums about the issues that need to be resolved. Bungie isn't suffering from a lack of communication, but a lack of understanding, and until they fix this problem, nothing will improve. Yep, Bungie today showed that they are completely clueless as it pertains to how to fix the game in the long term. I posted yesterday on DeeJ's topic that this was a make or break point that needed to serve the long term of the game, and it failed to even address some of the short term problems, let alone completely ignoring the long term issues. It's almost as if the mass of voices demanding reversion of weapon loadouts, subclass nodes, and activity choice were completely brushed aside. To me, it's clear that Bungie still believes this title can one day become an e-sport, and are being completely ignorant to the fact that RPG games do not support this level of play due to statistical differences between player choice. I mean, come on, the forced balancing over the past three years alone is more than enough to demonstrate this, and any long-term gamer who has gone through multiple MMO/RPG titles will be able to tell you that balancing one is completely impossible. Now, the roles are flipped. All of D1's lifespan, the PvP players were complaining about lack of balance in the crucible, ignoring the fact that it served as a fun side activity and was the afterthought of the game, while most players cringed at the balance updates, the model was sustainable, and could have been improved vastly with some of the technological enhancements that D2 now offered. But this time, they switched the game to be dull and balanced, and the PvE players (Who by the way, far outnumber the PvP players) are complaining en-mass about the dullness of this title. No amount of minor adjustments to the token economy, or "quasi-random roll" weapons, or "armor ornaments" will address the underlying issues with this game, the issues that need to be fixed to make Destiny 2 a good game. Things like going back to the original weapon loadouts, unshackling the subclass nodes and offering a larger amount of player choice are key to fixing the underlying root of problems with this game, it's just NOT FUN anymore, the dullness of balance is the problem with Destiny 2. The reason we all loved Destiny 1 was because of those outliers, the names of weapons that will forever live in fame (or infamy) because of how they performed in situational perspectives, this is what is fundamental to a great RPG game, and this is what we were wanting to see today. Instead, Bungie pulled out one of their classic tricks used on every DLC release such far, a rehash, instead this time they rehased their own blog post from a few weeks back, providing more bits of information. Bungie, THIS is your problem. It's not a lack of communication, it's a lack of understanding. The players have spoken to you loud and clear, PvP balance is NOT what we want. We want to go back to the fun experience of the outliers, who gives a damn if someone gets OHK'd in PvP, it's a game! It's meant to be fun and exciting, not dull and lackluster. If you truly believe in the friendship element, then you need to make an experience that is truly memorable, something that we really want to come back and play over and over again. Take this to heart for a change, get out of PvP-land and go back to making games that we want to play. Then you'll start winning back your players.

                                  • Wasn't really expecting anything earth shattering with this update. I'll get the expansion and play it until it's no longer fun to me,just as I have with all other destiny content releases. The problem is people and gamers think the destiny endgame can satisfy them continually with no end in sight and this game has never been designed to do that. It's good for awhile and then it gets stale because you run out of things to do and the loot dries up. So go play other games when you get tired of destiny and accept it for what it is and not what it isn't and never will be.

                                  • I think it is ridiculous that those that do not play consistently, and you know who you are, get free gear from our efforts...and now it is even easier for raid gear. That is handholding the casual player and it's offensive to those that spend the time to get the gear by completing the raid. That is BS. BUNGIE, why do you give more freebies to casuals? Where is the distinction between the real gamers and the candy crush players?

                                    • If I'd known Destiny 2 would turn out like this, I'd have saved my money and stayed in Destiny 1

                                      • It's taking an already easy game and making it even easier. The progression of this franchise in board game form would be D1 Vanilla = Risk. D2 CoO = Candyland. It's the wrong move. Period. There was some hope yesterday. That's all gone now. It's abundantly clear what audience Bungie and Activision wants to cater to. They want to get the Esports people and they want to get the ultra casual who only has an hour or two a week to play a video game. If you're in any group that's not those two, this franchise no longer is a game that's for you. Real talk.
