• I’d say yes, way better, I’d take forever 29 over this watered down casual joke anyway.

    • My answer is Yes and No D2 has public events, abilities, new weapon systems and SOME cool things like full shader customizations for everything. Then D1 has the great PvP, exotic weapon perks that can differ and get changed out, and the solid all shaders for full armor skins. The maps on both are good (Not great) and can use some work here and there for the random stuck NPC, but other than that the worlds are vast and fun to explore and its nice to have daily challenges in D2 and to see rotating stuff like faction rally and Iron banner. It turns the game from a simple story to a story with a few curve balls thrown at your face.

    • Personally, I don't miss... 1. The Rahool giving us blues from our legendary engrams 2. Farming planetary materials for upgrades 3. Needing to level up our equipment to unlock perks 4. Needing a -blam!- ton of ascendant materials to fully upgrade your raid gear to reach level 30 5. Forever 29 6. The horrible, horrible story 7. Rockets McDickFace (bullet sponges in general) 8. Getting strange coins after horrendous nightfalls 9. Endless repeat exotics, same as D2 10. Near useless public events 11. Bounty to, "Destroy 3 fallen walkers" *shivers* 12. No map for navigation 13. All of the lore being in the grimoire rather than the game 14. Special weapons in the crucible. I know this is a plus for some people, but D1 crucible was too chaotic imo 15. Heavy ammo shortages There's probably more that I can't think of off the top of my head. I too like to don the rose-tinted glasses from time to time, but vanilla D1 had massive issues as well. Not saying D2 is perfect (or even good) in its current state, but let's not hold vanilla D1 on a high pedestal (unless we're talking about VoG, the greatest raid Bungle has made to this day)

    • Yes. Hands down. Destiny 2 has more content, but no reason to play it. Vanilla D1 had less content, but the core gameplay, chasing after legendaries and exotics, grinding for light level that actually mattered, raid and nightfall rewards that were ACTUALLY WORTH the long hours struggling when you were first figuring out strategies to how to deal with all the encounters, and the community was in better shape because we were all in the same boat. Those who knew things would pass on the knowledge to others and those who received help were less self-entitled and more grateful for someone taking the time to show them something. It seemed like every piece of content was designed to play a roll in your progression, so even if activities like farming materials and doing bounties and completing public events wasn't as exciting as the raid, they were worth doing. This made it so that there was always something to do, even if you were playing alone and waiting for others to get on. Not to mention the exploring. And the search for hidden loot in the VoG was real. I used to stay till 2-3 in the morning on a worknight, just discussing the lore of the vault with my clanmates, talking about what theories we wanted to test to see if we could trigger the hidden chest we KNEW had to be in there. It was much harder to GET legendary and exotic loot back then, but the odds were that when you did, it was likely something that was really going to help you out. The game was more PVE-Centric and PVP didn't play a major role. The PVP was a lethal and frustrating environment because you died so fast that you didn't really have time to learn the maps, but if you stuck it out and actually learned the game, the game started to slow down and it became a lot more fun to make use of those lethal weapons and abilities you had at your disposal for a change. Overall, its not even close. IMO, Vanilla Destiny was clearly better than Vanilla D2. And its when Bungie started to migrate AWAY from that Y1 model that I started to become disenchanted with the game.

      • Comparing D2 to D1 vanilla isn’t the right comparison. D2 didn’t happen in a vacuum. Three years of development took place between them - TDB, HoW, Taken King, Taken Spring, Rise of Iron, Age of Triumph. None of which carried over. Instead, what we got was a token based casino simulator with no endgame other than repeat trips to Eververse.

      • Yes, that was back when there was a lot of very desirable rare and powerful loot. That hasn't been a thing in destiny for years. Vanilla destiny combined with the expanded activities in rise of iron is what I wish D2 was.

      • Vanilla? Eh, probably not. Vault of Glass would beat Leviathan anyday, of course. But progression was wonky and plagued by RNG. Story was a shattered mess (that started by having you do 75% of a storyline that would only be completed in the Dark Below, which is probably the most obvious sign of that DLC either being cut to be DLC, or the game shoved out half-baked) that you had to half fill in with fan fiction efforts until they somewhat contextualized it a year later with the Taken King overhaul. Event wise. Well, Vanillia Iron Banner was actually a differential. Not much of one, it never really lived up to the "Loot matters" tag that it was supposed to be. D2's IB is just a weekly featured PvP mode that only comes around every six weeks. Queens Wrath was certainly more intriguing then the Faction Rally. Unlocking ultra-challenge missions (sort of a prototype of stuff like the Black Spindle run). While both involved repeating content, Queens Wrath had that climactic test to get your skill by playing missions with modifiers not otherwise seen in that content.

      • Yes because D1 since it was a brand new idea was fresh and fun bungie had full permission to do what they did However being that D2 is a sequel that is why I think it’s failing People realize it’s not as alive as D1 was it’s not as fresh and fun because in a way it is somewhat the same feeling that the 3+ year game already gave us Some people just don’t want another 3 years of the same feeling
I wanna know the truth.
Because in their best efforts to make EVERYONE A WINNERRRŔ they have alienated their core demographic and all the casuals have moved on like they would of regardless.

There 2 different games in a way. D2 is more polished with graphics and things to do, But D1 was more gripping and rewarding, for example I can remember my very first exotic on D1, where as D2 they are thrown at you so fast and frequent they become pointless. So to your original question: D2 is good for a quick story and fun for about 2 days D1 will grip you and keep you playing for years.....

NO.Absolutely not. I was a beta player, loot cave veteran its where I got my Ice Breaker and a lot of other exotics and legendaries. D1 was a New experience for most people and now everyone is looking for that feeling again and blaming Bungie for not having it. Its like chasing the Dragon

        • Because it was a relatively fresh concept. I think part of the problem with D2 is simply Destiny fatigue. I played D1 yesterday and it was more fun but after a few games of PvP I was done and played Horizon Zero Dawn.

No. People have just conveniently forgotten all of the bad stuff about Destiny 1. It's the Halo cycle all over again.

            • About the same i'd say, I quickly got bored of Destiny and left after finishing most of the vanilla content, it only really got good when I came back just before Rise of Iron came out. Honestly I wish they'd just figure out how to make the missions more fun, replaying some of the story missions with my Hunter armed with Thorn is just way more fun than a lot of 2's token collecting nonsense

            • Yes, and anybody that says the leviathan is anywhere close to VoG must be captain tyin knots. Simply enough, there were still things to do after a month because of weapon and armor variants. D2 has more shit to do, but no reason to do it. I want to want to play D2, but I don't have a reason.

Destiny 1 before any dlc at all wasn't better than Destiny 2, but even I would say the Vault of Glass was a better raid, but the loot and progression system was overall worse. Buying a Legendary weapon with Vanguard marks was a rewarding experience, however. The original Destiny had better vendors.

                • The difference is they’ve had 3 years to know what the people liked and what they didn’t but they went ahead and changed everything and took out a lot of what D1 had that was fun like 6v6 Mayhem Clash or 6v6 Rift, Strike specific loot. Reforging of weapons and Raid gear and weapons with perks that actually helped you in the raid.
