Destiny 2 - Worse than D1 - RNG in all the wrong places!

* Subclass Quests - RNG * Strikes - RNG * Crucible modes - RNG * Light Level - RNG * Mods - RNG * Faction gear - RNG * Vendors - RNG * Raid rewards - RNG * Trials rewards - RNG * Public Event rewards - RNG * Clan rewards - RNG * Shaders - RNG * Sparrows, ships, and ghosts - RNG from Eververse (and no more drops from raids, events, etc) * Ammo - RNG (and yellow bars dont always drop heavy!) * Weapons - STATIC ROLLS, no more rerolling to customize perks * Skill trees - STATIC TREES, no more mixing skills to customize playstyle * Infusion - STATIC 1:1 INFUSIONS, no more infusing any primary into any primary to customize playstyle, you get locked into using whatever weapons are highest light. So even if you prefer scout rifles, you'll probably get stuck with a useless sidearm * Clan - STATIC EXPERIENCE BAR, only 10,000 xp a week regardless of clan size. Does not scale. Large clans fill this in a few hours and get bored, small clans struggle all week * Perks - NO RNG PERKS - Luck in the chamber and similar perks have all been nerfed right out of the game and replaced with useless things instead * Xur - NO EXOTIC ENGRAMS - Xur now only sells starter/trash gear for a few shards. No more engrams, no more coins, no more weapon bundles, no more AMMO SYNTHS * Raid - NO RAID PERKS/LACK OF DROPS - Remember when raid gear helped you do better in raids with specific perks? NERFED. All these Calus coins from beating checkpoints and opening the locked chests, I should be able to at least buy cosmetic raid gear right? NOPE- SLOT MACHINE. Overall Destiny 2 is a much worse, heavily nerfed version of Destiny 1 based on these facts that are clear to anyone. Poor design choices all around. All the wrong things are RNG. 99,999 glimmer isnt enough when you need to blow 300,000 to get one RNG kinetic mod from the gunsmith to raise your light level. Shaders should be single use, but RE-USABLE - as in able to unequip them and apply them to a new piece of gear. Vendors should actually SELL STUFF, not just be casino slot machines all over. Strikes and crucible modes should be manually selectable, not RNG everytime. Clans need rework, as other than 4 clan engrams a week, theres not any other point to them, not even clan based pvp modes or anything. Destiny 2's biggest problem besides RNG is lack of content. Once you get your 4 clan engrams, beat trials and the raid, theres nothing left to do all week besides grind boring public events. Lost Sectors arent the "mini-raids" we were promised. Patrol and high value targets are unrewarding. Strike playlist isnt rewarding at all, and crucible is too random. No more grinding legendary engrams to manually boost light level, as all normal purples drop 10 light levels lower than what you need to even break even! No more grinding for god roll guns. No more grinding for OP exotics. No more leveling up gear. No more grind at all really, and the grind was a vital part of D1. Hopefully Destiny 3 will be the game Luke Smith promised Destiny 1 to be, as the first 2 games certainly fell very short. Perhaps a drastic change in leadership over at Bungie is necessary to improve this franchise. TLDR - Destiny 2 nerfed the best parts of D1 and replaced them with bad RNG designs and lack of content

  • Completely agree! Thank you for compiling this list. Here's to hoping Deej/Cosmo see this, realize it's the truth, and relay the message to Mark and Luke. I'd imagine Luke Smith will say something about how they're hard at work creating something for us to throw our money at, but maybe Mark Noseworthy will show a little integrity and own up to this. It's really poor and lazy game design. Outside of story mode I'm extremely disappointed with this reboot of Destiny.

    I agree, I regret falling for the hype of this game and hoping things would be addressed but they literally make these forums just so we can feel like something is being done about the things we complain about. They cant possibly be reading anything in forums to have destiny 2 be so off from what fans wanted. If a company we give so much money too cant just give us simple things that we ask for, why do we keep spending money on their crap. Stop supporting bungie terrible decisions. I feel like their dev studio has no young players who actually know what FUN is and play the game, if they actually played the game, they would know what it needs.

  • I agree to extent but it's a nice change to grinding only to get a luna with the worst perks imaginable.,20 times in a row I do however think that you should be able to buy stuff from the vendors not sure why that's gone?

    i feel like there are points in your argument that ive experienced myself, then there are a few points where im kind of lost on. i do agree with you on the point that the game feels like its heavily nerfed in many areas, and that includes the loot. now maybe RNG is just being a prick from day to day, but i have seen moments throughout the game where ill complete multiple adventures and strikes etc. and will end up with very little to nothing to show for it. in terms of the games content, i feel like there are alot more things to do actually. but i also believe that those new additions will get stale and boring very quickly. with D2, i feel like bungie tried to go two steps forward, only go one step forward and stumbled short from the finish line. i loved the story though, have to give credit where credit is due.

    Stop reading after "no RNG perks". Kinda ridiculous that you are complaining about RNG being were it should not, but you miss LitC.

        • * Subclass Quests - RNG Oh please, the drop rate is so high it's practically 100%. Just go run a Lost Sector at levels 8 and 15 and your basically guaranteed to get your next artifact. * Strikes - RNG ...and? What's wrong with this? Explain. Are you just complaining that there is RNG? Anywhere else that I think either requires further explanation or isn't a seriousenough problem to list I'm just gonna type "...and?" * Crucible modes - RNG Has it occurred to you, or anyone else for that matter, that maybe this is only a temporary thing until the active community grows? This is a growing issue for any game that uses playlists. If you have too many playlists at release then the community fractures and wait times increase. It's smart to start out with as few playlists as reasonably possible until the community grows enough to support more. * Light Level - RNG What? I don't even understand what you're referring to here. Be more specific. * Mods - RNG Are you expecting to always get every mod you need/want all the time? The game just released a couple weeks ago, you can't expect to get everything you want this quick. * Faction gear - RNG Since the next item listed is Vendors I have to assume that by Factions you're referring to Dead Orbit, New Monarchy and FWC. Assuming that to be the case...factions aren't slated for a release until week 4, the fact that we even have a chance at getting some of their weapons already is awesome. * Vendors - RNG ...and? * Raid rewards - RNG Haven't tried the raid yet so I don't have anything to say here. * Trials rewards - RNG Haven't tried Trials yet. * Public Event rewards - RNG Public events have a chance to drop Exotic engrams. Heroic events double the chance of Exotics. The drop rate is pretty decent, if I worked for it I could easily get at least one exotic engram a day just by farming heroic events, that's insane. * Clan rewards - RNG ...and? * Shaders - RNG Ok this one I agree with. * Sparrows, ships, and ghosts - RNG from Eververse (and no more drops from raids, events, etc) ...and? * Ammo - RNG (and yellow bars dont always drop heavy!) Yes they do. Yellow health bars always drop power ammo. Almost all Orange health bars also drop power ammo. The only orange health bar enemies I've seen that never drop it are orange health bar exploder shanks that spawn during the ether resupply public event. And also...ammo RNG? Really? It feels like you're just trying to pad out this list to make it look larger than it should be. * Weapons - STATIC ROLLS, no more rerolling to customize perks Might be personnel taste but I'm loving the static rolls on weapons. I feel like it makes each weapon more special when I can say something like: "Oh yeah this is what a Minuet-42 is..." it also keeps things simple, no more God-rolls. * Skill trees - STATIC TREES, no more mixing skills to customize playstyle Still deciding which I like better. I'm enjoying D2 enough that I don't think this bothers me. Although if future DLC doesn't introduce new paths for each subclass I'll be disappointed. Also just for the sake of my sanity can everyone stop calling them trees please? It's not a tree if it doesn't branch out, they are paths, linear skill paths. Every subclass has grenades, jumps, crouch abilities, and two main skill paths. * Infusion - STATIC 1:1 INFUSIONS, no more infusing any primary into any primary to customize playstyle, you get locked into using whatever weapons are highest light. So even if you prefer scout rifles, you'll probably get stuck with a useless sidearm I'm not fond of the new infusion system either. I'm guessing there are going to be some changes made to it over the course of D2s life span. Fortunately you can infuse Energy weapons into Kinetic weapons and vice versa if the type matches, so that's kinda nice. * Clan - STATIC EXPERIENCE BAR, only 10,000 xp a week regardless of clan size. Does not scale. Large clans fill this in a few hours and get bored, small clans struggle all week I thought this topic was about comparing the RNG of D1 and D2. D1 didn't even have any clan functionality like this. Again, padding out the list. * Perks - NO RNG PERKS - Luck in the chamber and similar perks have all been nerfed right out of the game and replaced with useless things instead ...what? Wait, are you complaining that weapon perks don't operate based on RNG? Why? * Xur - NO EXOTIC ENGRAMS - Xur now only sells starter/trash gear for a few shards. No more engrams, no more coins, no more weapon bundles, no more AMMO SYNTHS He's only showed up one time, you can't make claims about his stock until you've seen whether or not he can sell other stuff. Exotic engrams are so much easier to get now, what would be the point? It's really easy to stock up on legendary shards, if Xur sold engrams lots of players would already have every exotic in the game. Actually some people have discovered Strange Coins in D2, but we're not sure what they're for yet and anyway why does it matter that we're not using Coins as currency anymore? Weapon bundles were only introduced because D1 was coming to an end, you really shouldn't expect to se them again so soon. Ammo snyths are gone and they're not coming back, people need to learn how to prioritize targets better and just get over it. You shouldn't need Power ammo all the time. * Raid - NO RAID PERKS/LACK OF DROPS - Remember when raid gear helped you do better in raids with specific perks? NERFED. All these Calus coins from beating checkpoints and opening the locked chests, I should be able to at least buy cosmetic raid gear right? NOPE- SLOT MACHINE. Haven't tried Raid yet. Overall Destiny 2 is a much worse, [subjective] heavily nerfed version of Destiny 1 based on these facts [opinions] that are clear to anyone. Poor design choices all around. All the wrong things are RNG. 99,999 glimmer isnt enough when you need to blow 300,000 to get one RNG kinetic mod from the gunsmith to raise your light level.[if this is how you're getting mods you're doing it wrong] Shaders should be single use, but RE-USABLE - as in able to unequip them and apply them to a new piece of gear. Vendors should actually SELL STUFF [why?], not just be casino slot machines all over. Strikes and crucible modes should be manually selectable, not RNG everytime. Clans need rework, as other than 4 clan engrams a week, theres not any other point to them [again D1 didn't have any clan functionality, like it or not this is a huge improvement compared to D1], not even clan based pvp modes or anything. No more grinding legendary engrams to manually boost light level, as all [not all] normal purples drop 10 light levels lower than what you need to even break even! No more grinding for god roll guns [good]. No more grinding for OP exotics [good]. No more leveling up gear [I'm leveling just fine and I haven't even touched Trials or the Raid, what are you doing?]. No more grind at all really [good], and the grind was a vital part of D1 [it was the worst part in my opinion]. Hopefully Destiny 3 will be the game Luke Smith promised Destiny 1 to be, as the first 2 games certainly fell very short. Perhaps a drastic change in leadership over at Bungie is necessary to improve this franchise. TLDR [In my opinion, if you feel the need to include a TL:DR, that says to me that you don't feel confident enough in the quality of your own post to stand by it without including a watered down version for those too lazy to read it all. If you really believe in what your typing then don't reduce it to a single line synopsis, people will read the whole thing if it's worth reading] - Destiny 2 nerfed the best parts of D1 and replaced them with bad RNG designs and lack of content

          •
* Subclass Quests - RNG
Yep. I agree with this. Bungie should have done something about slowly getting your powers back over time/experience rather than a drop.
* Strikes - RNG
I dont get what you mean? I dont think any strikes are RNG based. (I havent played the game yet; im waiting for PC)
* Crucible modes - RNG
Yep. Bungie needs to add a matchmaking preference tab.
* Light Level - RNG
I dont get what you mean. Your light level isnt just randomly rolled everytime you log in the game.
* Mods - RNG
You get so many mods in this game, this is hardly a valid complaint.
* Faction gear - RNG
Factions are yet to be released (I mean who keeps factions alive when the city just got attacked).
* Vendors - RNG
They give you engrams. Thats a constant. So no, vendors are not RNG based.
* Raid rewards - RNG
This is how it was in the first game. This is how it is in every game. Dont bitch about something thats fine.
* Trials rewards - RNG
Again, was done like this in the first game. This game is a loot based game afterall.
* Public Event rewards - RNG
Again, just like the first game.
* Clan rewards - RNG
Atleast you can get clan rewards now. But even then clan rewards are constant. The engrams are not.
* Shaders - RNG
Again, done like this in the first game (Except you got unlimited uses in the first game)
* Sparrows, ships, and ghosts - RNG from Eververse (and no more drops from raids, events, etc)
Just like the first game. And yes you do get drops from the raid and trials.
* Ammo - RNG (and yellow bars dont always drop heavy!)
There is a weighted RNG system in Destiny 1 and 2. If you are low on a certain ammo, the game is more inclined to give you ammo. And I am pretty sure all yellow bars drop heavy.

                • I waited for 12 months before getting D1, maybe I should have done the same thing? Not that it's all bad... Absolutely not! Environments are rich, the weapons and enemies are interesting. However, there was meant to be this epically long story, 80 hours or something? Where? It's not in my game! If they mean with future DLC, then make that more obvious please!! I have to admit, I'm torn by D2 at the moment, but will continue to play none the less. I fear it's just lacking something, but I have no idea what. I returned to D1 to grind for gear, weapons and light status... Right now, I feel less of a compulsion in D2. That does not mean I am critical just to whine, I could never create such a game good or bad... I just wonder what I'm missing? But it's what I'm missing, that's making the gameplay feel more effort than enjoyment. I wonder if anyone else feels the same? N.B. It is still a solid game in essence, and maybe this is just the vanilla issues I never experienced before... Then again, Halo veteran that never experienced them in that game at all! (My opinion) :-P

                  • In your list, the thing that bothers me the most is the Vendors. In Destiny 1, each vendor had a selection of wares ( guns, armour, etc ) that could be bought provided you had a certain currency. In Destiny 2, the only way to get vendor specific gear is to level up that vendor and you are 100% at the mercy of RNG with regards to what you'll get. It makes getting specific things quite a chore. In many ways Destiny 2 is a superior game to Destiny 1 but the a lot of the vendor/economy stuff in the end game feels like it's taken a major step backwards from Destiny 1. And now that I've reached that point where none of the vendor gear decrypts at my level ( and I can't buy specific things from here guys ) I feel as if all of them no longer serve a function or a purpose.

                    • Agreed. Less RNG, more clearly defined goals. Ex: RANKS FOR FACTIONS/VENDORS, GAURANTEED DROP FOR REACHING SAID RANK. (Crucible rank 30 gives you a sick exotic crucible sparrow) used to feel like this. Now it doesnt. Now i am aimlessly grinding literally always. Had fun until I reached level cap. Hopefully the expansion brings something different and amazing to the table. Maybe they are just timegating everything like in D1

                    • I agree with this post regarding skill trees, infusion, clans, and raid drops. What is MOST disappointing to me is the skill trees. If I had my way, there would be a third attunement/way/codex for each subclass, and perks could be mixed and matched between them. The attunements/ways/codexes should serve as suggestions as to how to customize your perks, not as individual options themselves.
