Down with single-use shaders!

Seriously, the title says it all: this is a broken system, and I can't imagine there's any reason for making them consumable other than to encourage micro-transactions. I don't care if it's been said before, I'm saying it again. Shaders were previously one of the most fun aspects of Destiny; now they're a chore that just makes you feel uncomfortable if all your pieces can't be shaded to look the way you want. You have to either be impatient and spend real money, or grind and hope for a good drop. Exotics are easier to predict now. Make D2 shaders permanent! To be honest, the few times i actually bought bright engrams, I was looking for new ships, sparrows, or even emotes. Quite literally the same reason I and a lot of other people bought from the Eververse in the first game; granted, yes, you -could- get shaders from the Eververse (that were pretty neato; Midas cures my filthy Irish greed) but even then, there's more you could get other than the 2 or 3 shaders you liked so if Bungie changed the shader system back to infinite use, I guarantee dumbasses like me are still gonna by that shit

  • I agree! Single-use shaders suck. I don't use them. They cost too much glimmer to equip and you don't get enough of each.

  • It's disgusting to see people defending the micro-transactions and even worse to see that people are actually buying them...

I agree. For example I have a couple of shaders I want to equip but don't because they'll go into the bit bucket along with the armor they're adorning when I upgrade. I spent time trying to figure out how to use them on new armor before I discovered it's no longer possible. You can look absolutely glorious with the same shader on each piece of armor. Then you get that new, higher 'power level' (blue), chest piece for instance and you look like a robot that was 'repaired' using a part found in the scrap pile.

      • Shaders shouldn't even exist. We should have free reign over coloring our gear.

        • I must say I like the way the shaders work in respect to being applied to individual items to give more character customisation, but I agree they should be unlimited use.

            • Either make them permanent or have an option to buy already discovered shaders with glimmer like one of the threads mentioned. I wouldn't mind paying 3-5k glimmer for each legendary shader consumable you buy.

                Luke Smith Tweet about this
Shaders are earned through gameplay: leveling, chests, engrams, vendors. We expect you’ll be flush w/ Shaders as you continue to play. When you reach level 20, Shaders will drop more often: vendor rewards, destination play and endgame activities. Shaders are now an ongoing reward for playing. Customization will inspire gameplay. Each planet has unique armor and Shader rewards. With D2, we want statements like "I want to run the Raid, Trials, or go back to Titan to get more of its Shader" to be possible.
"I want to run the Raid, Trials, or go back to Titan to get more of its Shader" to be possible worst statement ever Like RNG in Destiny wasn't enough of a bitch, no we get more RNG!

I am the 1600th! Anyways, I agree with you 100%. They also need to expand the modification and shader capacity. 50 is just not enough knowing there are probably way more different shaders you can obtain. I am already exceeding my max inventory on Mods. Something needs to be done soon.

                  • I've been cautiously optimistic waiting for the PC release. But I'm already having doubts. A $60 game having a consumable shader system frighteningly similar to Black Desert Online (a cash grabby korean f2p mmo) is setting off alarm bells in my head. If you want to take cues from an MMO shader system go take a look at Guildwars 2. If this system is still in place at launch Bungie wont be getting a cent from me. I might even buy the game and all future content from g2a out of spite.. Protest with your wallets people!

I will not be purchasing anything from Eververse until Bungie changes this. Cause I don't want to have to consciously worry about shaders. I will have enough of that to worry about when going after the next Fatebringer.

The main problem with single use shaders is that you getter better gear so often that you never feel like you can risk using them. I've sat on shaders for half the game because I know better gear is just around the corner and I don't want to waste them on stuff I'm going to get rid of in half an hour anyway. One of my favourite things in D1 was messing around with shaders and it's totally ruined in D2. It's a small thing when they got so much right and it won't ruin my enjoyment of the game but it's annoying anyway. Bad decision Bungie.

                      • Agreed, Bungie most of us paid 100 bucks up front. If you truly listen to your community, change this...Shaders were a point of grinding not based on how much silver you can buy...complete and utter disappointment....

My brother's actively cancelled his PC Pre-order because of this.. so looks like I and our 'third' fireteammate will be cancelling too (bb £240). It's a frivolous issue, why instill aggravation and a lack of choice in a system that was so widely praised for the freedom it presented? and it doesn't matter how plentiful shaders are, they're never going to allow you to switch so freely as D 1 did, I used to swap to a Red colour for crucible, White for PVE content, and chill out in green at the tower, either I'm not going to have enough shaders to do this anymore, or they really are so 'flush' and easily acquired and plentiful that THERES NO POINT TO MAKING THEM CONSUMABLE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
