Whats your D2 fears? Be honest, not a rant thread, not really

For me, it's PvP still being a laggy mess due to sbmm bands, matching people from all over the world. For the love of God I hope they regionalise it better

  • My main hopes/fears: Hopes: A better campaign with a more involved story line. The PVE weapon loadout changes work with how they are building the encounters. Quests not requiring BOTH sides to be completed. PVE or PVP, not both. More variety with weapon types in use. To be honest, most people go with the same exact stuff due to the buffs/nerfs, mainly favoring these so called 'god rolls'. Also, separate the gorram balancing. More to do in Patrols. I would be pretty disappointed if they had a SET number of activities and didn't mix it up a bit. A worthwhile reward for being a Destiny veteran. Not just a unique cosmetic item. Fears: Opposite of what I said above. Same as with Destiny, being that all gear is made worthless as soon as the next DLC drops. ACTUAL progression with the gear/being able to keep gear you personally like the look/use of throughout the expansions until you find something you like better. That the expansions won't be meaningful additions to the story. No new enemy types added. (don't care about new races...not like any are going to be added in) No 3rd subclass (TTK ones) until expansions are released. (minor fear here)

  • Power and weapon builds being set up too much to allow easy pvp tweaks. Last I checked we're at war with the cabal, not each other. And not having time to explain....

Re-skinned content. Don't wanna be playing expansion 1 or 2 in a years time from its release with re-skinned enemies.

  • Shitty PvE and having to play crucible again. I'm a good crucible player (check hunter stats), but destiny's PvP is so unbalanced and sweaty.

  • I'm mostly just worried about the new weapon loadout system (2 primaries and all other weapon types combined into the new heavy? Sounds like a lot less build diversity); and the new subclass skill trees that offer very little in the way of customization. Basically I have the same concern with both these changes: it offers less freedom of customization than we currently have, which sucks a lot. I wanted more options, not less. Hopefully what we saw was just a rudimentary alpha build or something that will have more to it once the game releases. I'll be pretty dissapointed if there's no more to it than we saw on reveal

Supers, weapons, and pvp balancing. Supers As people have mentioned, the supers seem to be more offensive based rather than strategic. For example it appears we are losing sunsinger for dawnblade. Dawnblade is a slayer super while sun singer was sort of support because of self-res. Now with that posdibly gone warlocks are now just slayers. This is the reason why warlocks are not needec for raids now since they offer little support. Weapon From destiny 1s balncing, very few exotics are viable anymore when compared to legendaries. This was due to bungie not wanting exotics to be overpowered in pvp or inflate the difficulty of pve content through nerfs. I fear exotics will be bland in destiny 2. Pvp I don't want balancing to be focused soley around pvp. My raid effectiveness got effected by weapon changes due to trials balancing when it came to the ammo economy. I also fear this new weapon system in destiny 2 is going to slow pve way down for the sake of balancing pvp. Just my thoughts

  • My biggest fears are: 1. The new loadout system, its impact on PVE, and what it signals about what the developers REALLY value in this game. In this game, Bungie can have only two out of three elements in this game: PVE, PVP, and Consistency between the two. They can have powerful gear and abillities in PVE and consistency between PVP and PVE, but they won't have balance. On the opposite end of the spectrum, they can have balance in PVP and consistency across both PVE and PVP, but you will have no power progression and much less excitement and fun on the PVE side. OR, they can give PVP and PVE both what they want, at the cost of having a consistent experience across the board. Their refusal to say that PVE and PVP are completely separate combined with the fact that the game appears to have been completely re-engineered to suit the needs of PVP players, and it seems like PVE players will, once again, get the shaft. At the very least, it sends the signal that PVP is the most important element of the game and that there is NOTHING they won't do for the sake of PVP, even if it costs PVE players. They'll simply do whats necessary for PVP, and simply "make it work" in PVE. And My fear is that there will be a ton of PVE content to play through, but no reason to play through it, as there will be no gear that makes you feel super powerful - and the new loadout system could contribute to that sense of power drain. I'm sure PVE will be playable, but the question of whether we will ever feel as powerful as we did in Y1 or have as much fun as we had in Y1 is a big issue. More of the same of Y2/Y3 just isn't acceptable to me. 2. New supers: Sure, its great to have offensive abilities, but I fear that the new support abilities limit the kinds of encounters they can design in high end PVE. No longer do we have awesome, strategic abilities and we must now, instead, turn PVE into a run'n'gun game. Replacing long-lived strategic supers, armor debuffs, etc. with short-lived support abilities seems to fit into the "run'n'gun" theme and on paper, seems to de-emphasize encounter strategy. 3. Again, new supers/abilities seem to be aimed towards de-emphasizing the differences, strengths, and weaknesses of each class. This is NECESSARY for PVP for balancing purposes, but only if your goal was 1:1 balancing. I never thought 1:1 balancing should be a goal. I wanted to see MORE differentiation between the classes with varying strengths and weaknesses. That would make combat much more dynamic and diverse in both PVE and PVP IMO. Instead, every character is just the same - except one wears a cape, the other a skirt, and the third, a sweat band. 4. While I think there was not enough specialization in character abilities/classes/etc., I think there was TOO MUCH specialization in terms of our weapons loadout. Restricting us to two primaries may be great to those who want the flexibility of carrying two primaries, it actually limits choices for those of us who actually made regular use of all three weapon slots. As someone who always approached PVE engagements from long range, carrying a close-range primary is not going to do me any good. It effectively pairs my useful loadout from 3 weapons to two. This forces players working in a small team to have to specialize in DPS or crowd control. The only thing is that what you use may be dictated by what other players in your team HAVE available to them rather than what you actually want to use. IMO, it's just a bad move to re-order the weapon slots in PVE for the sake of PVP, especially if PVE and PVP are separated (or are going to be separated). 5. The message reordering the weapon slots sends about whether PVE and PVP will actually be separated. If you are GOING to separate PVE from PVP, then why do you need to be restricted to the same loadout across both modes? There's simply no reason for it other than laziness. If you AREN'T going to separate PVE from PVP to a great degree, then it makes sense to keep the loadout format the same across both modes, but then they are effectively stating they think PVP is more important than PVE in a game that is at LEAST equally divided between both modes. Those are my top 5 fears about D2. And I'm not really excited about the direction the game is going in. I know some players like some of the changes, but I personally do not. I will give them a chance when the beta comes out, but it is much harder to convert people who already approach the game from a speculative position.

That it's plagued with the same issues that destiny 1 has. Terrible story. Over priced, half assed dlc that cuts the loot pool down by a noticeable margin. Bungie choosing to blatantly ignore feedback. You know, the usual concerns

    • Pvp looks slow, too much like halo. If I want 4v4, power weapons, slow ttk, I'll just go play halo. Recoil on the guns we've seen (including exotics which are supposed to feel good) have such awful stability that the missed shots artificially inflate the ttk. Overall effectiveness of guns look ass. Pulses with hand canon like range, ghost bullets are back, retarded recoil, slow ttk. All sound effects got cartoonified. Just go listen to all the guns, jumps, supers... it all sounds very cartoony and less beefy than destiny 1. Movement slowed. No more Titan skating, warlock hopping, hunters are the only ones who aren't really effected. Skill trees shrunk and streamlined. This is a big one. I was expecting a bigger skill tree with more perks and more customization in your build. So basically what made destiny the game that it is got taken away. It is now a shit halo with a destiny skin.

      • Biggest fear is Bungie's unwillingness to separate PVP and PVE balance. So far, that seems to carry over into D2 from what we've seen.

LEVELING. I don't want to hit max after 2 raid completions, or 3 faction rankups. I don't want to spend 2 hours to hit max, and spend 500 at max. Also, Announcing a DLC at before launch is a terrible production idea. Much less TWO. Slow as heck PvE, because snipers are now heavy weapons. Terrible Balance. Content Drought. Not enough exploration.
There's a certain kind of game that Destiny should be, and thst Bungie wants it to be. I really hope they bring it to that kind of game in D2.
• That it turns out like Destiny 1. I had such high hopes for Destiny 1 in 2012 and it turned out to be garbage. No offense, but it was clearly cut up last minute and put behind a pay wall. The original story was overhauled and replaced with what we have now. I couldn't stand PvE in Destiny 1 because of how insanely repetitive and grindy it was. It wasn't even the good repetitive, it became a thing where every Tuesday, I would knock out all of the PvE activities so I wouldn't have to do them over the weekend. I guess I was happy with the PvP until they started patch less and less, until they finally stopped entirely, leaving the crucible in a completely ability based meta with next to no gunskill. I haven't pre-ordered Destiny 2, and so far, it doesn't look good in my opinion. How can I tell? It looks exactly like the trailers for Destiny 1. Unless Bungie can prove me wrong with Destiny 2, I highly doubt that I will buy it.

Since I haven't played it yet I can't really judge it from what we've seen so far. It looks good, but I will have to see for myself. My real fear is that we will go through months upon months of little to do. I think the first year will be great, but if we start to go through huge content droughts like we did after ttk or roi I will be disappointed.

new weapon system seems boring. movement is a lot slower. no variety in subclasses will get boring. no 60fps on midgen consoles no true dedicated servers 4v4 only pvp no big subclass shake up (anyone else hoping for dark subclasses?) dawnblade super only let's you throw fire at enemies and you can't swing it like a regular sword.

          • A fear i have is that they keep or even add more rng to my bullet accuracy. I hate what they did with hand cannons, adding some stupid rng in my bullets. God forbid they add this to everything else. It just feels so unrewarding when your shots are dead centre( or feel like it) and you miss because the dice wasn't in your favour. Please never bring back ghost bullets. It feels bad to play with, and seems like a lazy attempt to make something weaker.
