Its a competitive race! Any idiot can drive a sparrow through a gate unhindered. It would be boring and there would almost be no way to improve your position in the race since all sparrows have the same stats.
Ever played Mario Kart? Twisted Metal? Split Second? Star Wars Podracer?
If you want to race without getting bumped, go play with your sparrow in patrol

10 RepliesKids...coughs*.....people are whining about this? Really? Trading paint is part of racing. Always has been, always will be. Geez....

2 Replies"Rubbing is racing"

2 RepliesIm complaining its not more of a thing. Let me punch the bastard next to me if he gets too close, like Mario Kart Double Dash!
-
2 RepliesBecause people were hoping they could chill and avoid sweaty players in a Destiny activity for once.
-
Because my sparrow is a feather while my enemies are all bricks ;_; Let me f*ing push them back pls.

1 ReplyI agree that bumping someone out of a gate is a useful tactic for getting ahead in a race, but if you go out of your way to hit people out of gates and into obstacles to the point where you also get last place, you're doing something wrong.
-
uh no if it's an accident fine that's one thing, but when you try to bump so hard the entire the race that you begin to drag people off the map with you then that's a problem.
Any idiot can drive a sparrow through a gate unhindered
Racing is not about bumping, it's about overtaking your opponent whenever there's an opportunity whether it be through fuel/boost gates or on tight turns. That's why in a racing movie whenever the competition tries to bump there way to the finish line they always crash and burn. It's always satisfying seeing that happen to someone who has been bumping you the entire race.
-
I don't have a problem so much with bumping as I do with being totally thrown off course by simply tapping a rock or other piece of scenery. It's really god**** annoying when I'm doing well...and then a freaking molecule knocks me off route.

Edited by EMW ZEEK: 12/16/2016 6:11:05 PMBecause the game doesn't function properly with latency and collision detection. I have had friends complaining about me bumping them when I am 30 feet ahead nowhere near touching them. Great net code bungo.
-
so not racing.. real racing gives penalties for running in to your opponents.. and I think what people are frustrated with isn't even the bumping so much as the inconsistency of HOW to bump or avoid it.. you can be in front and bump the guy next to you and he gets the boost and you slow down.. physically impossible but it happens.. you can strafe left or right in to an opponent and go right through them, under then etc.. the hit detection is terrible and while this isn't a racing game.. it would make alot of people far happier to have consistency..

Because everyone is filled with hate

I get annoyed cause the physics of it suck so bad. I do a side dash into someone and it clips me through them while throwing me off course. Someone lightly tap my sparrow, I slam into a wall. It doesn't make sense
-
*friend* bumps me *me* wow man u punk whatever :) *stranger* brushes past me *me* DIE YOU PIECE OF TRASH
it is true tho whenever somebody even brushes you it messes you up bad
1 ReplyThe same reason people complain about most things in the crucible. They lose, so instead of taking full responsibility for being less skilled, they blame it on something else.
-
I know, right? People wanted competition in PvP events and bumping is a competitive mechanic and they bitch and moan when it happens to them. Filthy peasants will always find ways to complain.
-
They could have made the sparrows go through each other if bumping wasn't meant to be in the game mode.
-
bumping is just part of the game. lag effect on the other hand is almost Psychedelic to watch , about 3 races so far I've had players flicker between front and back of the race, if this is lagg switching or just poor conections who knows I have seen one clear cut case of cheating, in a race in which all rewards are random, why cheat ?

4 RepliesThere is a huge difference between SRL and Mario Kart! I mean I enjoy doing some SRL, but they are worlds apart. Mario Kart was built to be a racer and SRL was basically turning an item we had in the game into a mini-game. Because of this, the mechanics of this mini-game can't compete with a game that was built to be a racer. Sparrows are light and flighty and can get dead stopped due to a simple change in the terrain. You could attempt to purposefully bump someone the exact same way 50 different times and have 50 different results. If people are trying to "bump" most likely it's because they really can't race or don't know the track because hitting someone is on its best day a 50/50 proposition.
-
I haven't played SRL since last year, and I didn't buy RoI, and I have no plans to. But I can tell you from my experience that the bumping isn't what I hate most. It's the fact that when I turn my sparrow around to go the wrong way to intentionally get revenge on the person who knocked me off track or into a wall, I just phase right through them as if I wasn't even there. THAT, to me, is BS. If you put me into a wall, fine. IDC. But you better give me the opportunity to lie and wait and take you out too.
-
Why can't people just sit at the starting line and let me race in peace?
-
Well it does stand for shoving racing league
-
The only time I'd care about bumping is for the last part of the quest. But since I did it. Last place looks great!
-
Dam none of you kids ever watch "Cars" growing up..

If you want to have fun in this game, play private matches.

2 RepliesBumping is only really a problem in the first few seconds. After that I'm usually ahead enough not to worry about it, and it's just me and one or two others that are competitively pushing for the shrinking gates. I've never run into anyone wasting their fuel to shove me out of the way when you're actually winning. I will say that it's not all about hitting the gates. Actual racing skill comes into play if you want to win consistently. If you look at my stats it's all first and second places, and then there will be the occasional spike to fifth or first due to one easy mistake. I don't average very many gates, but I still consistently win due to techniques I notice many don't use. I guess others just aren't used to racing, but there are many ways to win without hitting many gates. Of course when you do rely purely on skill you get cocky when you skip those gates. That's why I'll suddenly spike to fifth. I'm skipping gates in first place, but still have a consistent lead and then... forklift. simple mistake, but without the boost from the gates I skipped i suddenly find myself at a severe disadvantage. The key to winning is combining certain techniques as well as hitting necessary gates. That way when you do make a mistake (and we all do) you have recovery room.
