Why is it that every time someone's skill comes into question, the first thing I hear from someone is "Your crucible K/D sucks, so you suck"? Seriously, I heard someone say that to someone else in WotM the other day. Totally unrealated to the current situation.
EDIT: People were missing the point of the second paragraph and it was kind of porly written on my part, so I'm modifying it.
Basically:
There are people who don't really try in PVP that are good at PVE, and there are people who wreck in PVP that can't seem to grasp raids. So don't base your judgements of one on the other.
EDIT 2: Something I forgot to bring to light before despite being the primary reason my own K/D is lower than it ought to be (Thanks to BrassedoffDan for reminding me)-
You can easily get a good K/D by being in the back the whole game. But some of us aren't sissies. Some of us are AGGRESSIVE. We're going to break their lines, grab those crests, cap that Bravo objective, dunk that rift, or just straight up disrupt the enemy by any means necessary, and take down as many enemies as we can in the process! If being that shift in momentum and topping the team comes at the cost of a few more deaths, so be it. Guardians are immortal after all.
EDIT 3: There are three other K/D-affecting things I should mention.
1. Unbalanced teams- you know the games. Where you end up against a full team and your team is getting repeatedy wiped by teamshotting, pack memtality grenade spam, and super chains. One game wouldn't be so bad, but there are days when you need to get something done and you're just getting steamrolled every game. Speaking of which-
2. Bounty/quest grinding- Good example: When you really just want to get the thorn quest over with, mayhem isn't up, and all you have is a shotgun and a few smoke bombs.
3. Just generally not trying all the time- Maybe you are grinding the crucible while watching a funny youtube video snapped. Maybe you like to play drunk every once in a while. Maybe you're too tired to do good, but too awake to go asleep. Plenty more examples, I'm sure.
EDIT:
4. Dropping in mid match on a losing team and getting repeatedly slain by supers and heavy. Thanks Scrubbiest Scrub
Also, TexasJedi_705 pointed out this relevant and pretty funny video by Badass Gaming: link

I think it should all reset every time Bungie decides to completely overhaul the way crucible works. If you're going to play a different game, you'd might as well have different stats. Y1 Service Record, Y2, etc. Also I'm not a fan of taking months off the game and then coming back to SBMM that in no way represents my deteriorated skill level.

Good or bad k/d I don't care as long as you have thumbs don't rage quit and can enjoy what we're playing

55 RepliesPVP Opinion Rules 0 - 0.99 KD : Your opinion does not matter and is invalid 1.00 - 1.19 KD : Your opinion matters if backed up well with good points and reasoning 1.20 - 1.49 KD : Your opinion will highly be taken into consideration 1.50+ KD : Your opinion is always right and correct

My k/d isn't great because I go into Crucible using random weapons that I enjoy using, even if I stink with them
i also have my moments when I get 28 kills two games in a row using Outbreak Prime
Edited by torch327: 11/2/2016 2:43:04 AMK/D doesn't really matter in Objective modes if the low K/D people are playing the objectives. Rift and Supremacy are the 2 best examples for this. In Rift I have had the top score multiple times with a negative K/D due to being the only one with enough balls to grab the rift and attempt to capture it while everyone else just kills. In Supremacy I will charge in and pick up multiple crests even if it means taking a death. The 3 blue crests and 1-2 red crest I recover more than makes up for the death and 1 blue crest I just gave up.

KD is life

4 Replies*looks at kd* Makes sense now

Agree with you on this or as I feel. B "K/D matters to those who care about K/D."
-
You forgot that some gamers here prefer to be on the sideline to just take somebodies kills, and they call that skill apparently... And don't get me started with objective games... Some people are just too selfish, they only want their K/Ds to go up, so when they play something like control or rift they will literally not even participate on the objective of the game mode, they also fear dying. And if they die too much in a match, they will quit and find a new lobby, because it doesn't benefit them and it will leave the party more vulnerable to losing... And those people that never wanna grab those enemy and teammate crest... they don't grab any of those because they might die when they try to pick them up...

Edited by SolarCerberuS: 11/2/2016 2:04:12 AMI plain out sucked year one I admit it but my ave kd doesnt reflect how much I have improved. I also play the objective when the match type calls for it take control for instance, Im in the top 5% for zone caps but only really play control during Iron banner when its the match type. Also top 5% suicides (thank you void bomb and those who jump infront of me after I let a rocket rip......the rest I put to a cliff diving facination) When RoI dropped and hence supremacy I went into Iron banner a supremacy virgin but played it since and have improved vastly by changing from an agressive clash strat to a more conservative but still agressive one for the supremacy match type. I was also dicking around with the new weapons trying to find my year 3 pvp build.

3 RepliesThe guy having the most fun is the better player. At least he is getting the most out of the game.
-
10 RepliesAgreed. A high kd via playing passive (camping) is NOT the same as a high kd via aggressively playing. Id say my aggressive 1.5-1.6 kd is the equivalent of a passive 2.0+ kd.

No i think everyone can grasp raids, you just need to learn the specific dynamics and you can do a raid.. PvP not so much..

Without a ranked playlist it never will matter but that's all no life kids make fun of first
-
Trials kd matters that's about it.

3 RepliesThere's someone in this post who has the longest single life in skirmish of 1 day 7 hours and also racked up 66 kills for highest number of kills in skirmish. I'm really not trying to jump to conclusions but something seems off. If this person is also in top 1% of PvP how can you trust any stats? So does kd really matter?
-
These are the same kids with win/loss rations at like .01 because they like to sit in the back and not participate with the team. Which then leads to them saying things like "Look at my kd that game, I carried" Which I guess would work if you're playing clash but the same person sitting in the back during a clash match could've helped others get assists or even save a teammate from dying which could've led to a winning game. There are so many factors, basically anyone who brings up k/d has no arguments going in their favor besides a number (usually no higher than a 2.0) And I would rather have the guy on my team to go out guns blazing on an objective or saving my ass then some Randy in the back taking body shots on dudes with a sniper cause he can't make the headshots count.
-
I'm a very aggressive player, I also mess around a lot, I never attempt to save or improve K/D, I just play hard and have fun. Sometimes I'm top scorer on winning side, sometimes I'm lowest on losing team, I always have fun, games are for fun.

4 RepliesShould be based off win lose not kd

Some of us are AGGRESSIVE. We're going to break their lines...
You seem to be speaking against using tactics. I call it, playing smart.

Destiny's stats are bogus. Now, we could go into the math and flawed methodology. But, the bottom line is, if Bungie cannot guarantee the integrity of the PvP matches then the stats e.g. K/D are not valid.... It's one of the dirty little secrets of Destiny. The stats are nothing more then a database of fake numbers to keep players emotionally involved in the game.
-
While I don't worry about my K/D at all, my sweaty PVP teammates does. :/
-
5 RepliesI have noticed an improvement in my PvP play as a whole. But I still have a negative K/D. It was MUCH lower in Y1, I think I was around .3 during The Reign of Suros. Dark days, lol. But my K/D will probably never be positive, at least not for long. And I don't care. I still have fun.......That's what we're supposed to be here for, right?
-
8 RepliesIt does matter. Would you try a serious flawless run with 0.10 K/D guys? I doubt that. I highly doubt that. K/D gives you a general idea how skilled someone is (skill can come in many forms, and getting a kill mostly is the result).

1 ReplyId have a 1.0 if those damn architects would stop killing me all the time lol
