The game’s loading times have gotten dramatically worse over the past months since that one update. Its super frustrating and easily takes away some of the fun.
EDIT: I’ve heard stuff about SSD’s improving loading times. As much as i don’t like how I feel like an SSD is so necessary for older gen consoles, I have started to consider getting one. If anyone could help me out with details on how they work, which ones work well, which ones are cheapest, etc., I would greatly appreciate it (I’m on xbox if that’s a necessary detail)

7 RepliesWhat are you talking about? There were plenty months ago addressing it. The solution is to get a solid state hard drive. The game is getting bigger man. It takes time to load everything. Take a look at PC load times in comparison. You'll see a major difference.
-
My load times are only bad when doing match made events, because I’m waiting on others to load. When I do solo stuff I doubt I have a load time more than 30 seconds. Going to an SSD chopped a lot of load time off. I thought most of the load times were based on connection speeds and downloading data, but nope. It is all the HDD. You in console and want faster load times, get an SSD, and make sure everyone you are playing with has an SSD.

Edited by mystical_fruit: 8/23/2019 6:36:47 PMDo you have an SSD? As soon as I installed that, my load times got more than twice as fast. So much so that sometimes I’ll load into a strike well before other players and be able to sparrow my way through most of it before they and the enemies spawn in. I’d say it’s 20 seconds or so to load into planets. Our consoles are very old also you have to remember so there’s only so much they can do
The game’s loading times have gotten dramatically worse over the past months since that one update. Xbox one and ps4 have been out for donkeys years. It won’t get better and even reverting back to the old system it still took 30-40 seconds to switch items.
-
2 RepliesBeing entirely honest I don’t have long waits on console. This may depend on individual factors and not bungie. I’d check you’re ps4 hard drive and your internet connection.
-
The only place I really have issues is pulling up menus. The director takes like 5 seconds, but the main menu takes like 20 seconds to load stuff. This drives me crazy when I’m just trying to make a change during a mission or trying to check on bounties. Don’t even get me started on what happens when I go into a crucible match. I find something isn’t working out in the match I’m playing, so I want to switch my primary from a hand cannon to something with a little more range. I respawn before the menu even pulls up anything to let me change stuff. That just means I’m afk for 10 seconds trying to change weapons.

5 RepliesI’m sure $500 ps5 will fix it have better chance of Sony fixing it then these yahoo’s been waiting for dedicated servers for 8 years lmao
-
wdym? Bungee enabled cross save so they expect all of us to pull $800 out of our ass and get a damn pc.

Edited by Shadowjack: 8/23/2019 5:45:58 PMYou might as well get ready for Destiny 3 to be a big launch title for the next generation of consoles, because that's coming. The game clearly is at the limit of the current generation.

Sometimes it's fine. Sometimes I think it's broken.

I didn't participate in SoH alley because it takes me like 10 min to sign in and get to the tower. Just takes too long.
-
meh, fun thing is that between gambit matches i can take a shower and during tower loading times i can go cook some food. I cant move to pc for that reason.
satire
4 RepliesEdited by Force58: 8/23/2019 4:03:49 PMMy game is loaded on an SSD drive and its still slow as hell. I've noticed a huge difference. I play on Xbox by the way. The menu's are the worst thing though. It takes double the amount of time to go into any of the menu's. Not sure what's happened but its not our imagination and its got nothing to do with having an external drive. Also, you people are missing the point. There has been a recent change that has affected loading times and accessing menu's. My hardware HAS NOT changed in that time, so it's not my hardware. Bungie changed something with respect to their software and they need to address it. Simple as that.
-
Yeah, forget changing load out in a fight, it is just slow as molasses

Edited by xilxad: 8/23/2019 4:34:13 PMIn the latest twab all bungie really seemed to care about was reminding everyone to buy silver so we can buy those eververse items that were never available for bright dust before the items are gone forever. Perhaps everyone should remind bungie that if they made a great (or even a very good game) we might all be a little more likely to buy those items. For instance, i just dropped a small fortune on some items in another game but refuse to buy anything from bungie until they A, put someone in charge of destiny who understands the players (not the streamers, certainly not Datto) and B, deliver actual content, new quality story missions, new pvp maps and game types, etc.

I blame matchmaking for loading times, I found out loading into the tribute hall is 10 seconds faster than loading into the tower
-
Wish they would do something. I hear pc run's almost on an instant. Curious how well that new google console will play the game, if it loads fast, plays smooth. I'll just play the game there and sell my shitbox if so. Nothing like blowing $500 twice on a console to try and improve gameplay and bungie is like "nope, -blam!- you!".
-
Edited by Kanashimi510: 8/23/2019 4:29:58 PMIt has become pretty bad. Bungie should do some tweaking to adjust things, for sure, but... ...moving destiny to an external ssd on my PS4 pro pretty much eliminated all noticeably bad loading times in the game, including the mid-strike loading screen. I didn't want to wait around for them to clean things up and improve loading times again. Imo, the ssd was worth the $.
-
Bungie devs just do not care about “optimization” as this was not required for consoles. D1 was bad with load times and char menus and d2 is no different. I think pc port is better just because a third party was making it and optimized it as best as they could. Also, i think bungie can’t make proper weapon balancing because their config is some enormous xml file that works with categories rather then specific items. So max they can do is change the individual gun perks and not stats
-
Get an ssd.
-
Edited by Havoc: 8/23/2019 4:17:21 PMtry getting an ssd or even an external hard drive and transfer your games to it. i use a 1TB external for my basic XB1 and saw minor improvements. edit: not so much for menu load times, but loading between zones in the tower and open world.
-
Edited by NinjaBadgerBurn: 8/23/2019 4:23:25 PM100% agree with you. All menu's including showing information when hovering over an item, loading into instances, rendering weapons after a loadout change - it's all noticeably slower and is getting worse. I see lots of nonsense posts here about buying an SSD and I'm afraid it's not entirely the solution. I have a quality one and trust me it's better, but it's not a solution. The game pulls a lot of the information it's trying to access from Bungie's servers, it's a live game so your inventory, triumphs etc are not completely stored locally. Loading into instances is not just about loading the game world, it has to factor in all sorts or server data and other people's connections into that instance. Why do you think loading into the Tribute Hall or a Raid solo is always done in such a hurry. The interface is overburdened with routes to information and crap we really don't need to be able to access whenever we want. Loosing some of that would be a start. But the point is there's more at play than just where your console is trying to load data from locally.

4 Repliesreading the comments .. go buy a pc or buy an ssd? really?? i go to a store and buy a console, ps4. i also buy a game, destiny 2. the game should operate in the console i just purchased right?? fix the game being sold on current platforms or don't sell it
-
8 RepliesYou could get an SSD, but with the price of the console, maintaining an internet subscription (Which is a total scam anyways) and an SSD, you could just build an efficient PC that doesn't add any financial stress after building it. Except like once a year or every two years.

Destiny is the ONLY GAME I've EVER played that has this issue with terrible loading times. It's definitely not a problem with consoles or not having an external hard drive. It's ridiculous.
