So today I was finishing up a Gambit Prime Bounty to get a helmet upgrade. I primarily play as a reaper and go to town on mobs. Generally, I play Gambit as a means to an end: to get rewards, loot, gear and Bounties complete. It’s not a particularly fun activity when playing solo but sometimes I get put with folks who mesh well with each other’s play styles. For the most part, however, I play against stacked teams while I’m with other solos who aren’t particularly interested in anything but completions (assuming here).
Anyways, I play a match where I’m with all other solos not wearing GP armor and the other team is a 3-stack and a Iron Burden Emblem solo guy. Needless to say, my team was outmatches in terms of communication and strategy. However, throughout the match we were relatively close as we summoned our Primevals at about the same time. When they would invade, my team would run for the hills and I would hunt down the invader. Most of the tine we would trade or I would eliminate them before they could smash any of our guys. After Primevals we’re out, they melted theirs pretty quick. No biggie, we lost, I still got progress on my Reaper Bounty.
Then while I’m searching for another game, I get a message from the other team saying this, “All these titles and you kids are sooo bad.”
To which I respond calmly, “For real mate? I'm solo queing for fun and you're in a group insulting others. Don't be a sore winner and just enjoy the game.”
No answer after that.
I’m assuming when I say this, but maybe after sending my message back, he realized he was being rude for being rude’s sake.
Ive just never understood that kind of nonsense. I can take a joke. I can take trash talk. What brother’s me is the fact that he was not warranted whatsoever. Me nor any of my teammates did anything other than the fact that we had titles that they did not have. I was and rocking my Chronicler title because the Lore is my favorite part of the Destiny franchise. Like a lot of others, I collected and waited Months in order to obtain this title and I for sure am gonna rock it! But I’m getting off topic. My point being, I just don’t get this elitism bs that people feel the need to do. It’s a game meant to be fun. And yes, I promote competition, but must people resort to trash talking due to their own insecurities about something as silly as a title? Something that has nothing even to do with competition but more for the fun of it? I digress.
Respect one another and have fun.
TL;DR- Played a Gambit match wearing Chronicler solo queuing against a stacked team. No big deal, but after the match (we lost) the other team felt the need to criticize me for my title, and say we sucked. Unwarranted elitism and disrespect makes to sense and people should just enjoy the game.

Sorry to hear this mate, but some eliteist douchebags actually have fun ( as they call it ) by doing this kind of stuff. Makes up for all their shortcomings in real life i guess. Please just mute/block/forget and enjoy the game, leave them to their basement dwelling.

I think i only got one hate message before didn't even listen to it because it was more then likely a screeching child/teen. however the majority of messages ive gotten over the course of d2 were maily gg well played type messages. I have had my fair share of encounters with "elitists" but honestly the only time i really got any hate was from owning the lunafaction boots....... bac when they reloaded energy weapons only the guy gave me shit for the entire raid just because i had luna factions and he did not (this was during like season one and it was my second run on the leviathan) It was stupid how salty this guy was, hell ive gotten more shit for pve related things while to my surprise the pvp side of things remained mostly pleasant in terms of not getting hate mail. Personally i dont care much about pvp anyway its more of a side show imo, is it fun sometimes, but when matched against carbon copy not forgottens and dust rocks fun.... no not really.

2 RepliesEdited by SamSu916: 6/3/2019 10:02:46 PMI know some trash talking hardcore gamers IRL(thankfully less than a handful) and I can tell you that not a single one of them is in shape or is in a good place in life. What they lack in life they try to justify in the game world.

1 ReplyI agree with you. Respect is something scarce these days though. A few months back I had some guy who shall be unnamed teabag me in gambit. I hunted him down with each chance I got. Rather than return the bag. We still lost. This individual proceeded to call me racial slurs and make fun of my gamertag. Call me whatever you want but my gamertag was made with the help of my best friend before his death last year. I nearly lost my cool but I reported them. Told them to leave me alone they kept at it and I blocked them. Sad to say I don't think anything ever happened when I reported the situation. But I rarely play gambit alone now if at all.

Edited by TheReflafitator: 6/4/2019 8:19:24 PMElitism is a Hell of a drug. The other day some kid took offense to the way I was poking fun at the game's AI, so he pointed out that I was power level 700 and still using a Scathelocke. I think he was trying to insult me or something. I just asked him why he isn't using it and then called him a weirdo. Turned his elitism around on him. Let him know that you'd have to be an absolute buffoon to not be using the most A E S T H E T I C futuristic space Kalashnikov in the game. Scathelocke is patrician-tier. Bonus points for using the EXTRA BIGASS Mark 10 Glass on it. However, if you put anything besides Dead Zone Foliage on it, you might as well be dead to me. Edit: Apparently Bungie.net is okay with the word "shitty" being fully uncensored but doesn't like the word c r e t i n, so I replaced it with buffoon. We'll see if that works.

I had a bad match in comp and got hate mail. This lamo kept sending messages so I eventually had to block him. Crazy is as crazy does.

2 RepliesI feel this. I was playing solo to get my third reset for Dredgen and I played against a 4 stack. They all messaged me after calling me names and insulting my mother for birthing me. Next thing I know, I'm banned from XBOX Live for 48 hours because they all reported me even though I all I said back was "Tru."

1 ReplyBro he was just jealous of your chronicler title
-
TL;DR - somebody said something mean on the internet
-
I believe you mean "mind bottling"

I’ve never completed the titles. But that’s because I’m alone. Same goes for gambit. As a dragon, I fly solo, so I like to fly way up high in the sky so I can s*** on everyone else from far away Literally I use tracking missiles, snipers, and high damage scouts to piss off everybody. Usually I can come up with at least 2 kills per invasion. I’m pretty confident to get 4. I’m clapping cheeks and smacking motes and it feels great A lot of times you can find me with 15 motes and getting chased around by an invader. Did I mention I break ankles? Because I do that too. I show them the happy feet, wombo combo, that ain’t Falco, OOOHHHH OOOOHHH OOOOHHHH WHERE ARE YOU AT WHERE ARE YOU AT Sometimes I get a party invite from the other team, but I figure they just want to insult me as soon as I enter, so I never bother

Pre NF/Luna nerf announcement, I got into a discussion with a guy who took his Not Forgotten WAAAY to seriously. Personally, I don't really care since I play on PC. He got all defensive. I said, if you're really good, you'll be good with whatever gun. At least you get more playmates. But this guy was really into his NF and got all intense. I said, the moment you step outside your room, nobody cares you have a Not Forgotten. When you got it, did you drown in p*ssy? Did your boss give you a promotion? Stop being way too intense about your pixel gun because you're scaring the children. LOL 2-3 years down the line, that virtual gun will have zero value.
-
I dont see why this is such a big deal to you. If you're getting hate mail, you're doing something right.
-
Can’t legislate for jealousy!. You’ve got a title and he didn’t. People take this game way too seriously and trashing other players in game is just a waste of energy.
-
People who need to put down others like that are just projecting their own insecurities. So next time you get a message like that, just remember what a sad -blam!-ing existence that person must have. :D

1 ReplyEdited by TheArtist: 6/4/2019 12:33:45 PMThat's not Elitism. That's garden variety toxicity....and (as you correctly diagnosed the first time) being a "sore winner". The sad fact is that humans are status-seeking animals. Our biology still believes we're living in caves huddled around fires....so being of "high" status in our group is necessary to our survival and our reproductive success. So people feel this enormous emotional urgency---like our LIVES depend on it---- to feel "important" and that are "better" than others. ...and if they can't find that in conventional ways, they'll try to find it other ways. ...and if they can't elevate themselves, they'll try to KNOCK DOWN others and stand on top of them. But at the end of the day, you didn't cause it....you can't control it in others....and you can't cure them of it. All you can do is refuse to play your assigned role in the DRAMA they feel compelled to stage. Which is exactly what you did. Well played. Move on.

I'm all for trading emotes in PvP(because blowing kisses after someone salts me makes me laugh), but I could never find the patience for randoms sending toxic messages--I have my settings set to friends only just because I know people do this. I only play drunk crucible with my friends. It's meant to be fun. I'm not entertaining some tryhards that think QP is big boy league. Sorry not sorry.

Ride on brother. It is just a game be kind to each other. If u don't have a clan check out the Rocking Chair Rockers, only requirement is being kind to each other.
-
It want elitism, it was jealousy. He was jealous of your titles and it made him feel better about himself to tear you down. This is as old as time itself.
-
it's mind bottling, not boggling. it's like your head is stuck in a bottle. haven't you seen Blades of Glory?
-
Its not elitism......just kids of today No biggie.

3 RepliesPointless post.

This example is part of why I’ve more or less stopped playing many PvP for any game. Have barely touched any in years now. The exception is when some Destiny pursuit arbitrarily requires it. It’s a different mentality in general. Which is why I don’t think the ending of PvE and PvP makes that much sense. It is something that will ALWAYS have conflict. It will always divide the community.

I have my messages set to friends only for this reason.

10 RepliesEdited by milpunk13: 6/3/2019 11:04:20 PMSame kind of people who run NF, DRB, and Wardcliff Coil while in 6 stacks in Quick Play and then teabag you when they get a kill. Like dude, I get it, you’re good at this game. It’s completely fair to say you’re better than me at it as is evident by you NF. No need to act like a child/dick. Newsflash to all people who act like this and like the people the OP spoke about: there are real people on the other side of those gamer tags...real people with real issues going on in their lives (just like you) that probably see Destiny as reprieve from whatever shit they’re dealing with in their lives. Why be a dick for no reason and wreck that for people. If you teabag or shitpost people in a video game, time to take a good, long look in the mirror and consider who you are as a person. Is your toxicity making the world a better place? My guess is if you’re the kind of person to act like that in a video game, it’s probably not too far off from who you are when you’re not playing video games: A pathetic asshole.
