Did Jesus exist? I always find it funny when people say he didn't, but I'm interested to see what y'all think.

74 RepliesEdited by TheArtist: 4/12/2019 4:11:42 PM
Did Jesus exist?
He probably did....but if you're debating that, then you're missing the point of the Message. Even as a Zen Buddhist, I tell people that the Gospels are the Truth....even if they never happened. What is important is the truth of the Message....not whether or not someone named Jesus lived and whether He actually lived the life portrayed in the Gospels. Live your Life in the manner He taught....and the impact it will have on your life and the lives of those around you, will be all the proof you'll need of its Truth. The core values that all the Great Religions teach at the end of the day. As the current Dalai Lama once said to a reporter who asked him to explain the tenets of his religion (Tibetan Buddhism): "Kindness is my Religion."

41 RepliesJesus was a real person, for sure. It’s whether or not what he was preaching is true that should be the debate.

Edited by Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 4/14/2019 12:03:33 PMDoesn’t really matter. If the claimed associated god exists, it should be opposed. Even if that opposition is futile and means burning for eternity. That god profoundly violates human dignity.

It is a possibility that he existed, in fact there are probably many stories in the Bible both old and new testament that are based on true events. But that is all of it, events and people whoms existence got chronicled and merged into a religion, just like with many of the other religions on this planet. Was he the son of god? Well acording to the bible we all are so in that context yes he was. But since god is fiction just like all other gods we have known and worshiped in the at leat 15000 years humans live as a society, that does not mean much and he was just a normal mortal man.

15 RepliesJesus existed. Whether or not he was the son of God is another question. Now, with the resurrection, my opinion logically and spiritually. If he was human, and not the son of God as claimed then what happened to his body after the crucifixion and resurrection? The apostles were, to put it bluntly, cowards when it came to fighting. After Jesus's death, Romans were posted outside his tomb. There is no way the apostles would have fought Centurion soldiers to recover Jesus's body. Also, the Romans would have taken Jesus's body and mostly likely paraded it to everyone to show he was only a man. Just my opinion I thought about one day.

24 RepliesHumanity in a nutshell:
3 "Listen! Behold, a sower went out to sow. 4 And as he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it. 5 Other seed fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil, and immediately it sprang up, since it had no depth of soil. 6 And when the sun rose, it was scorched, and since it had no root, it withered away. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no grain. 8 And other seeds fell into good soil and produced grain, growing up and increasing and yielding thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold." 9 And he said, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear." 10 And when he was alone, those around him with the twelve asked him about the parables. 11 And he said to them, "To you has been given the secret of the kingdom of God, but for those outside everything is in parables, 12 so that "they may indeed see but not perceive, and may indeed hear but not understand, lest they should turn and be forgiven." 13 And he said to them, "Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables? 14 The sower sows the word. 15 And these are the ones along the path, where the word is sown: when they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word that is sown in them. 16 And these are the ones sown on rocky ground: the ones who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy. 17 And they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away. 18 And others are the ones sown among thorns. They are those who hear the word, 19 but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. 20 But those that were sown on the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold." Mark 4:3-20
At the end of all things, everyone will stand before God. You will stand before the throne of Christ. Every knee will bow. Christ and all of His humanity and divinity is definitively True, regardless of your opinion of Him. For those that don’t believe, and refuse to believe, God will honor your decision. His not going to force you to love Him or be with Him in Heaven. He’s prepared a special place that was originally intended for the Devil and his demons. A place where He will let you succumb to the furthest implications of your self-destructive ideas, beliefs, and behaviors. You think you don’t need Jesus? Okay, well, that’s your choice. So be it. He will give you over to your own fate.

2 RepliesNot sure. There is no definitive proof of his existence. Being mentioned in a book or books is not proof.
-
yes she did.. but not in the way most were thought to belive

I’m not really someone who gives a shit about “Religion” so I’ll put it bluntly Believe whatever you want just know reading the Bible doesn’t mean Jesus was real at any point. It’s a “theory” that there’s a God named Jesus not a fact. Anyone who claims it’s a fact should check themselves before they wreck themselves. Until Jesus comes down from wherever the hell he’s been and touches my booty Ima choose to believe life is full of weird mysteries and could very well be a simulation. It’s a lot better than believing we were created just to die by the hands of some “powerful god”

Did you know we have more manuscripts of the new testament than any other ancient work? 5,800 completed or fragmented Greek manuscripts, 10,000 Latin manusctipts, and 9,300 manuscripts in syriac, slavic, gothic, eithiopic, coptic and Armenium Yet we only have about 100 copies of Aristotle's work. Coincidence? I think not

2 RepliesYes, even if he wasn't a zombie. I mean More Ham head was real, even if Islam isn't real.

A messenger.
-
In Islam he does, but only as a Prophet and not the son of God
Not a Muslim, but thinking of reverting
-
2 RepliesEven if you don't believe he was ressurected he still existed. Lots of evidence
-
He most definitely existed, and probably preached about a return to form for Jews, which evolved into Christianity. The miracles were probably made up later to convince people to switch to this new brand of Judaism
-
He’s probably “based” on a real person/ on real people.

10 RepliesEdited by Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 4/12/2019 3:58:54 PMMaybe. If he did I’d like to think he was just a normal, cool dude preaching for us to be kind to each other. There is a movie titled “The Man From Earth” about a college professor that’s actually about 50k years old because he heals from seemingly any injury and that he eventually stopped aging at some point. He vaguely remembers being what we would call a “caveman”. Says he was Jesus but that he was actually basically studying Buddhism and trying to spread eastern ideologies to the west and that it eventually got misconstrued and used to control people with fear and that’s where Christianity came from. That he was crucified and woke up 3 days later. It’s a really interesting indie flick that I highly recommend.

He’s my coworker
-
1 ReplySure. There was probably a dude named Jesus.
-
It’s agreed almost universally that he was a real historical figure, the debate comes in when we talk about whether he was the son of god or just a normal person.

1 ReplyEdited by Nebulrike: 4/13/2019 1:39:04 AMJesus, a supposed prophet? Probably Some baby who was inserted into a woman by magical powers? No.

The guy with the leaf blower?

I knew him. But then the car accident.....

10 RepliesEdited by Uncanny_Vale: 4/12/2019 8:10:57 PMHe probably existed. Though there’s not much historical evidence outside of the bible that he did. Of course the fact he may of existed doesn’t mean all the stuff written about him in the bible is true. The first gospel wasn’t written until around 40 years after Jesus supposedly died. The gospels were all written by anonymous authors, none of whom were eyewitness who actually met Jesus. But sure, I think it’s likely he was a real person that actually existed.
