What you need to understand about the livestream cancelation

So I’m seeing a lot of misinformed opinionated posts about the news. For those who do not know what I’m referring to: the bungie livestream for curse of Osiris today was cancelled. Instead bungie will be making a large blog post on their website/app. So you are all entitled to your own opinions on the matter. However, I feel it’s important you guys understand what’s happening. Today was going to be another typical livestream showing off some armor and weapons and new changes. Lately though public discontent with the state of destiny 2 is at an all time high. Many complaints about the game are surfacing. So instead of the fashion show bungie will be posting a blog post in direct response to the communities feedback. Now the point I want to make is that many people are upset and making claims about bungie that simply aren’t true. The number of posts and youtube videos that claim bungie isn’t listening or bungie is lying is staggering. This is what this cancellation is about. Instead of ignoring complaints and continuing full steam ahead with their livestream bungie is taking the time to address these issues. They know there is problems and taking action to open a dialogue with the community about these problems. I for one believe this is fantastic. I love destiny and will always stand by bungie but even I can admit there are problems. However, I believe this is a very positive step in fixing these issues. So before you complain and rage, take the time to look at this blog. The studio is reaching out to you telling you they messed up and they want to make it right. These people poured their hearts into this game and they want it to be better just as much as you do. Lastly for all the people upset about the xp debacle. You have every right to be upset. In the midst of all the scandal with micro transactions this was not a pleasant discovery. But if you come out and make hateful comments about how bungie is full of liars and thieves, then you are simply wrong. Bungie immediately reacted, clearly confirming that this was indeed happening and taking steps to improve it. They never hid it from you, and they immediately took the blame. It shows me this company is dedicated to righting those wrongs that are out there. So please keep the door open with bungie and keep the feedback constructive. Bungie is doing their part it’s time for the community to do theirs. TL:DR - the livestream was cancelled for a blog post where bungie is going to address all the problems with the game. Give it a read and make your judgements then. Let’s make community feedback constructive to support a company that is genuinely trying to make things better.

It’s another BS cash grab for the DLC. Telling the sheep 🐑 what they “want” to hear just before the DLC launch. 1. Daily player log in is at an all time low. Edit: add Activision stock price is falling 2. ALL media outlets are destroying the Games reviews 3. Product returns are taking place before the Christmas holiday and Q4 sales results 4. “used game” surpluses available as a viable purchase options before the holidays..affecting Q4 Sales. 5. The game is now the cheapest it’s ever been (cheaper then Black Friday and Cyber Monday). $26.00 on Amazon 6. It’s now available for “Free to Play” Demo This recent “Outreach” has NOTHING to do with righting wrongs and EVERYTHING to do with Q4 sales for Bungie / Activision. Don’t be a 🐑

    • The problem is, Bungie can’t be trusted. In my eyes anyways. Too many lies, too little delivery. So even if they “talk” to us, why can I believe it will ever be more than that, just talk?

    • This. Totally. Certainly, my opinion will hinge on what's in the blog post, but a nod to Bungie for their willingness to address what promises to be a difficult issue.

The information was available for almost 2 weeks. It wasn't until after the media outlets picked it up that they reacted. And I guarantee you they were pretty happy with it until they got busted. Bungie's MO in regards to player issues is to wait it out till the next issue arises and maybe address it with the next patch or DLC. Heavy Ammo glitch? Took a year and a DLC to fix. SRL Book for free? Couple hours
TL:DR - the livestream was cancelled for a blog post where bungie is going to address all the problems with the game. • It sucks that it took so much uproar and claims, true or otherwise, for them to respond. It seems they’re responding cause ultimately it will affect their bank accounts, which shows they only care if and when their bank accounts are at stake. It is a business, yes, but the business practices they have going on are just bad. A common ground can be met. They CAN make money while making the customer happy. Happy customer, happy thriving company. A true statement proven throughout the years. As far as XP, they admitted to it, but doubled the XP requirements. This fixes nothing.

            • I stopped reading when you said Bungie is listening to community feedback. Really? 3+ years should tell you otherwise. Not to mention that very recently the community as a whole has been saying since D2 launch that the MIDA Multi-Tool needs to be addressed. Bungie's response? "The weapon is where it should be and we've play tested to determine that *some* weapons can match it." The fact that they did nothing about the problem, and furthermore admitted that not all weapons can match it, means they didn't listen and they don't care about the major imbalance in crucible. Please don't say things like this just because your fanboyism is shining through. I loved the first game, but D2 is a major flop. Bungie didn't care until the dollar signs said otherwise. That is the only reason anything is happening now. Honestly, we don't even know yet what exactly is happening anyway beyond them saying, "we're going to address some issues." I have very low expectations for what they plan to do.

Do not fool yourselfe, Bungie it is not listening, Bungie where caught lying twice and making a XP scam to the players to force microtransactions at the same time of the BF2 big scandal for the microtransactions. Now that EA lose a lot of millions in shares value and all the salt is now pointing at Bungie, Bungie will try to do some damage control. Bungie it is well know to be big liars, and to mess up with words to the poing they really say nothing solid, so what can we expect. ? Bungie will perform a theatre play, the will say "we are listening closely to the community...", "we are analizing to do some changes...." or some sort of garbage like that, then they will try to control de problem addressing some of the less important problems of the game in order to show "good faith" as a part of a PR plan to let the crisis pass, and then we will have to deal again with the same deaf and stubborn Bungie that only cares about today profit, profit and nothing more than profit ,,,,,,with no care at all of the game quality or for the players community

So you had the stream time and date set, right? So essentially, you could do the stream and discuss the updates and QOL changes, instead of the CoO stream they were going to do. Why waste time typing and everything else? The stream was the perfect platform. We should be able to hear them speak and see body language (to see if it is just lip service or real changes coming). We can not see "eye rolling" or hear "condescending speech" through a wall of text. **I love Destiny just don't understand their decision making**

              • Mmm, I dunno. Instead of holding a fashion show, they could have had an hour/ hour and a half live stream where Deej brought on the lead devs to talk about upcoming changes, their timeline, their thinking on initial d2 system decisions, their thinking now, explicitly expounding on the underpinning game philosophy. Deej could be the community stand in, bringing up our complaints and suggestions, and have the devs respond. But hey, if we get one helluva blog post I won't be miffed.

              • Before you pat them on the back, shouldn't you hear what they say? Those of us who've been here since Day 1, are all to familiar with the, "we hear you" and the, "we're working on it" BS lines they've given us time and again over the past 3+ years. If they want my approval and that of other players they better have specific changes and concrete dates to announce, otherwise this is nothing more than a PR stunt to bolster DLC sales.

              • they cancelled the livestream because they were getting shit for lying to their customers twice regarding the xp buff, you goon. They wouldn't of done this unless they got caught. They don't care about us, they care about sales. Suddenly after 6 months of ignoring us they decide to do a community post about issues, a couple weeks before the DLC hits, and only after the outcry of the community went viral. Hmmmmm

I support the general message of this post, but I just have one disagreement. The xp changes were made without notifying the community in the first place. This isn't necessarily Bungie lying to the community, but it is a lack in faithful representation of the changes they are making to their product because they didn't tell the full truth. When Bungie reacted to community feedback in their blogpost, it also wasn't entirely truthful. They said that "the system is not performing the way [they would] like it to." This is a mistruth. The system was performing exactly the way they wanted it to. It was an intentional effort to make more money off of the community via microtransactions.

              •
The studio is reaching out to you telling you they messed up and they want to make it right.
Unless they ACTUALLY say those words, I'm not going to believe it. The community has been pouring its heart out with some very honest, honorable, and reasonable people giving well reasoned feedback here, only to have it ignored over and over again. Unless they're willing to actually come out and say "Look guys, we realize we screwed up by X, Y, and Z," I don't think we can take the cancellation of the livestream to mean what you believe it means. Ironically, I think there would be no BETTER time to make such a statement than when Luke Smith, THE LEAD DEV on this game, is live on screen for such a statement and admission to be made. Hearing such a statement come from THE HEAD guy responsible for the current state of the game would make a HUGE difference IMO. To hear someone with decision making power come out and openly admit that they made some really bad decisions, but they're going to reverse course and get this game back to being Destiny - yeah, THAT would actually change things, even if such changes wouldn't come right away. But that is not what they're going to do. They're not going to make live statements. They're not going to take hard questions. They're NOT directly interacting with the community. They're going to make a blog posting instead, which will have been reviewed to the Nth degree and sanitized of everything that could look bad on the game and the company. The bottom line here is that I actually think they're playing it safe in order to avoid having to answer some real, hard, legitimate questions and to save face from having Luke Smith have to go out there and say "we're going in the right direction." And again, Ironically, people don't want them to play it safe. We WANT them to own up to their mistakes, and not only that, but to be held ACCOUNTABLE for their mistakes (Looking at YOU Jon Wisniewski and the rest of the sandbox team). Because it is the very definition of insanity to have the same people doing the same things and expect different results. Part of getting different results is simply admitting the wrong decisions they made, but the follow up to that is DOING something about it and telling us exactly what they are going to do about it. By doing that through a blog rather than through a livestream, they're actually trying to avoid any misstatements or slips-of-the-tongue that could further tank the franchise. And I mean, why would they do that? It's not like Luke Smith has a history of saying some really asinine things that further enrage the community... The bottom line here is as much as I HOPE this cancellation of the livestream indicates that they are listening and have heard us, I would have MUCH rather have had them announce that the topic for the livestream was instead going to shift so Luke Smith could talk to the community directly and take some hard, unfiltered questions and have to look us in the face and answer those questions.
They know there is problems and taking action to open a dialogue with the community about these problems.
Firstly, you don't know why this stream was cancelled, so don't build your argument with that premise. You don't even know what they're going to discuss and what types of issues they will choose to address. For all we know, it will be meaningless, safe and cherry picked concerns they can respond to without starting a riot. I for one believe they will play it close to the chest and address things like vault space or shader usage. Hot topics like end game for hardcore players, direction moving forward will be answered vaguely if at all. Yes, I have little hope given their track record. This is just my speculation of course and it's inferred from their past announcements.
Bungie immediately reacted, clearly confirming that this was indeed happening and taking steps to improve it. It shows me this company is dedicated to righting those wrongs that are out there
They only reacted because they were caught and since it is just before the first DLC drop, they need to ensure their fate does not match that of EA's so they can sell those DLC's. They implemented the XP throttle thinking people were too stupid to catch it, which is pathetic. They wouldn't have 'righted their wrong' had no one found out about this, they would have just continued pushing that shit.
