I'm glad Bungie removed them. It allows for more variability on usable guns in PVE. What do you think?
Edit#1:
Wow a lot of people have replied to this! Thank you all so much! Also, please remember this is only a video game, no need for harsh words over an opinion :) stay fresh, guardians.
Edit#2
Holy crap!! 300+ replies!! Thanks so much to guys!! Please remember to be nice. A lot of you guys have great ideas to fix this elemental primary issue. One I saw that I really like is the idea for a legendary/exotic drop that Xur could sell or future raid completions, etc. would drop. This drop would allow you to apply an element to a primary weapon of your choice, maybe either exotic or legendary, but would require other materials as well to apply (like exotic shards or legendary marks, glimmer, strange coins, etc.) Each drop would have an equal chance to be each of the 3 elements. For example, if I got an arc application drop, I would apply it to my Doctrine of Passing and let it mow through captains and taken wizards :)

Just make a lot more elemental primaries. And/or give an Infusable elemental damage to put on a gun. I know that lady idea had been tossed around a lot but I think it would really work. Just have a lot of variability with elemental primaries and then still have good pvp guns.
-
3 RepliesEven if you were the only one, you would be respected by me. If you have an opinion that's fine and should be respected. But I differ from your opinion and so many more players (the majority for sure). Elemental primaries are meant to be for PvE experiences and they're no more which makes the experience less enjoyable according the many. Why? I think it just adds an incentive towards enemies with shields (very comprehensive) or nightfalls with elemental damage. I include myself in that explanation too. I enjoy more having to setup and use a variety of weapons according to the enemy I'm facing. That way, not all the time I'll be using the same weapon. Before we would vary from Fatebringer, VoC, Word of Crota and many other elemental primaries. You might say we still have Special and Heavy weapons with elemental damage but the truth is that it will never be the same since primaries are used way more often in PvE specifically. I'd say bring back elemental primaries...I miss them a lot!
-
11 RepliesActually, I used a more diverse primary lineup in PvE when primaries had elements. Now, there is no reason for me to use anything other than Hung Jury, or Touch of malice in PvE. Zhalo is useful in arc burn NF, but I rarely bother with NF anymore.
-
Edited by Bob: 2/29/2016 3:03:05 PMPeople keep saying hung juri for everything, being someone that jut hates the feel of scout rifles I prefer my smite of merian with firefly Does the same thing really, only thing is range is slightly lower
-
Not op, but without one you were at a disadvantage. Brings more diversity
-
Yeah at the end of the day whether they are here or not they are going to adjust gameplay accordingly. I'd like much more for special and heavy ammo to do more damage and be more scarce.
-
No what sucked in y1? Every single primary exotic was junk because it didnt have an element on it. Now they actually have a purpose and add to the game.
-
Way better without them. They were the real yr 1 crutch weapons.
-
I agreed. I'm fine without them
-
Biased poll
-
Edited by BrutalDLX: 2/29/2016 2:40:29 PMYou're poll is a little "anti opinion", however, I would say that we still have no variability in weapons whether we have elemental or not. Crucible is still dominated by just a few weapons. PvE Hung Jury, 1000 yard stare, Terminus or Touch of Malice, Black Spindle, Terminus. At least with elemental weapons previously I had a weapon that I actually cared about putting time in to get. Getting a Fatebringer or Blackhammer or Vex or Gally to drop felt really good. Nothing like that in year two so far. Maybe the Grasp of Maloc, maybe.
-
Edited by Alvin Thwait: 2/29/2016 2:40:27 PMI don't miss them if I'm honest, but taking some of the Shields off can be a real pain in the ass at times. If you had the same perks on weapons with a rng chance of getting each elemental buff (as you do on legendary secondary and heavy) it wouldn't hurt, but would make things a little too easy maybe. Also can you imagine the vault space we'd need?!?
-
1 ReplyI'm glad they took them out. All they really did was make that one nightfall easier. Which are really easy now anyway. I mean, was thier really anyone who went into a strike saying, ok, Hive in this strike, I need to VoC instead of Fatebringer so I have that solar damage to help kill wizards. No. No one did that. Most would have both and use Fatebringer anyway. I mean, the only loadout I saw in year 1 was Fatebringer - Black Hammer - Gjallarhorn I use the first curse now in PvE because I know I'm not handicapping myself.
-
4 RepliesNo because that's what secondaries are for. Elemental primaries diminish the importance of your secondary slot.
-
Not that many usable guns. Since month 2 of TTK I use the same loadouts. I have no real reason to raid anymore, except if a friend sends me an invite. The raid primaries are terrible, the specials I have started just dismantling or use for infusion IF I get anything over 315, and the rocket is too slow.
-
Elemental primaries would give me a reason to run the raid so...

1 ReplyEdited by TrolleyProblem: 2/29/2016 2:15:16 PMAll we would need is a consumable similar to that of the sparrow drives Buy one from xur for say... 30-40 coins, or get it to drop from nightfall, raid, ib, trials, etc Then apply to what you wish And raid and trials primaries can intrinsically come with burns. (If you don't like them, you can dismantle them for the consumable) Simple. There's your variety
either way, I want my VOC back
-
There is no competitive gain to PvE having elemental primaries. There's no reason not to have them.
-
3 RepliesElemental primaries limited your choices so horribly. You were almost forced to use certain weapons in nightfalls. I wouldn't mind if they came up with some elemental item you could infuse into your weapons to give them an elemental burn, but that's about as far as I would go for having elements in primaries again.
-
I like that they took them out, but as a compromise I'd be ok with infusable burns
-
Not really. I used different primary weapons all the time in year one. Now I use one primary outside of pvp.
-
I just don't understand why they legitimately explained why they removed elemental primaries, but left Zhalo with an Arc burn.
-
Variability in weapons translates to elemental damage in primaries.
-
just give all guns burns and change how the modfiers are affected??
-
What is this "PVE" you talk about?
