My problem with Xur - Exotics are not rare
We have a weapon rarity tree, as you all know (or do we?) which in theory determines how coveted a certain group of weapons is.
Unfortunately, because of Xur being able to sell almost every exotic, in effect this renders Bungie's beloved yellows not so rare.
In the beginning (day 1 player) I couldn't wait to see which yellow weapon I'd drop first and how awesome it was and when I got my Thunderlord and Hard Light from the loot cave (lol cave) I was so excited, and rightly so; both were absolute beasts and served me so well.
I then spotted other Guardians rocking fancy yellows and I became envious of Suros, Truth, Plan C, Red Death, all of which I have since received but each with a decreasing feeling of achievement and excitement. Because of Xur.
The game now has no truly rare weapons outside the hard raid, which is so easy to complete that every 31 and 32 should now have a Fang, Word or Defiant. IMO, of course.
So perhaps Exotics aren't supposed to be rare, but they should be, otherwise they're just legendaries with a buttery background. They are no longer special as they're all purchasable just like all Vanguard and most faction guns.
I want the next round of Exotics to be ultra-rare and not sold by Xur. That's what I want (I know it won't happen)
Xur should have a small selection or, let's say 6 or 7 exotic weapons, the rest should be those deemed as teh best weapons and they should only be rewarded by RNGesus.
There are no special snowflake weapons left now and (cue the hate) having a special snowflake weapon is something a lot of players value. We all now have the same armouries and so there seems little point in having a coloured rarity tree; all weapons are available to everyone.
To summarise, the word 'snowflake' was said.
edit - I am fully aware that 'exotic' does not mean 'rare', I am saying that Destiny's exotics should be rare but are not. Thanks for coming though.

I agree with a comment in here rng is just random and if you get gally on a random drop doesn t make you better than a player that doesn t. Xur gives you exotic s but hang on you have to grind to get strange coins by doing weeklys etc to get gear off him. So that means you grind and put effort in instead of a rng moment . So if I level a character up and I am new to the game and I open chest and get a gally have I earned my exotic ?People complain about xur giving weapons and armour but all he is doing is balancing rng. If people really want exotic s to be rare then they should all be bounties . And made hard but then people would moan , they are hard like the thorn one is Ment to be and cry about it ( btw thorn bounty is easy )So guys and girls have a think about it , no matter what option bungie go with people will never be happy. And will moan about it but in theory you earn and grind strange coins to buy gear of xur . So those that get rng weapons might not be earning them if they go afk in a raid or strike . Think about it

There are a couple of exotics that may meet your idea of special snowflakes: Hawkmoon, Monte Carlo, and the 4th Horseman. These cannot be sold by Xur at this time as they are PS4 only- this may change, however, when XBox players finally get access to them. I would offer a counterpoint argument- everyone (well, almost) who plays Destiny hates the RNG system in place. There are day one players who still find certain weapon/armor pieces never drop; perhaps Xur should be viewed as a chance to rectify this situation with regard to the exotics?

Xur is there for those who are ignored by RNG. Remember that all you lucky bastards who got a gjally and thunderlord in their second week as random drops.

Rarity went out the window day 1 because of the loot cave. A lot of day 1 players have a full compliment of exotics and use xur simply for heavy synth. There are still snowflakes out there like thunderlord and gally but loads of players have those too. When the HoW drops more exotics will arrive and you can be special again.

Not the fact that Xur has sold every exotic that's on the loot table aside from Thunderlord, the Vex, bounty exotics, and PS exclusives. If it wasn't for Xur, a lot of us would be up shit creek because of the terrible loot system. Edit: also, there's like maybe 4 exotic weapons that Xur can sell that's useful

1 ReplyI'm going to agree with OP... I'm going to agree with the hundred or so saying exotic =/= rare. If more exotics and legendaries required bounties and quest lines than this would make for an interesting game. The earning argument wouldn't seem so stupid.

1 ReplyNothing in the name exotic implies that it should be anything hard to get or a rarity. It only denotes a piece of gear that should perform above the tier of legendary, however not to the extent that it's game breaking. Now if it said exclusives or something like that - unobtanium, then I might concur with the OP's argument.

What if I told you exotic are exotics for one reason only and that reason was they have a unique perk to them and you can only use one at a time not that they are hard to get. The only problem with Xur is the posts saying there's a problem with Xur. The vendor is working as intended. Using RNG for the loot system without trading and no vendor leads to the players leaving because they feel like they can't "beat" the current content. There are plenty of ways to be a special little snowflake in this game. Achievements Grimoire for example. Having better gear only helps the fireteam you're on.
