We have a weapon rarity tree, as you all know (or do we?) which in theory determines how coveted a certain group of weapons is.
Unfortunately, because of Xur being able to sell almost every exotic, in effect this renders Bungie's beloved yellows not so rare.
In the beginning (day 1 player) I couldn't wait to see which yellow weapon I'd drop first and how awesome it was and when I got my Thunderlord and Hard Light from the loot cave (lol cave) I was so excited, and rightly so; both were absolute beasts and served me so well.
I then spotted other Guardians rocking fancy yellows and I became envious of Suros, Truth, Plan C, Red Death, all of which I have since received but each with a decreasing feeling of achievement and excitement. Because of Xur.
The game now has no truly rare weapons outside the hard raid, which is so easy to complete that every 31 and 32 should now have a Fang, Word or Defiant. IMO, of course.
So perhaps Exotics aren't supposed to be rare, but they should be, otherwise they're just legendaries with a buttery background. They are no longer special as they're all purchasable just like all Vanguard and most faction guns.
I want the next round of Exotics to be ultra-rare and not sold by Xur. That's what I want (I know it won't happen)
Xur should have a small selection or, let's say 6 or 7 exotic weapons, the rest should be those deemed as teh best weapons and they should only be rewarded by RNGesus.
There are no special snowflake weapons left now and (cue the hate) having a special snowflake weapon is something a lot of players value. We all now have the same armouries and so there seems little point in having a coloured rarity tree; all weapons are available to everyone.
To summarise, the word 'snowflake' was said.
edit - I am fully aware that 'exotic' does not mean 'rare', I am saying that Destiny's exotics should be rare but are not. Thanks for coming though.
edit - Thanks for all the support, everyone. So nice to see how many of you agree with me :)
edit - Just give me what I want and nobody will get hurt
edit - I am cool
edit - Trending to the max but I don't care because of the above edit

edit - I have become tired of this one now, so thanks for sharing yourselves and cool points to those who spotted the trollage and those who didn't take it seriously.
edit - Despite some of the anger and gingerness pouring in, I still love you all :-)

Exotics are meant to be rarer, because they put a little spin on whatever setup you're rocking. They shouldn't be impossible to get, they should be kinda hard, enough so that anyone can get one, but it's hard to get the one you want. And if you really want to be a special snowflake, you can try and get an exotic with a maxed out stat roll.

9 RepliesNot real sure how anyone can feel superior for simply getting lucky. The amount of hours you played before getting gally(or any exotic), is, in its entirety, irrelevant. All loot drops are determined by a RNG, and there is no hour prerequisite required to get lucky. In order to earn the 27 strange coins a week, you must at least complete three level 30 weekly heroic strikes. By definition, you are earning those coins, because a specific task must be completed in order to reap those rewards. They are not RNG based. Therefore, by purchasing your exotics from Xur, you have earned said exotics, 100% more so than those who got lucky, and obtained them as a random drop. It's ridiculous how entitled everyone seems to be. It's no different than saying you spent 24 years earning a random $20, you found on ground. Tl; dr: Your lucky drops, do not make you special. The same pedestal you sit upon will be sold by Xur next week. Get used to it.

I find it distasteful how people say "exotics aren't suppose to be rare". However, if exotics become the norm then they aren't exotic anymore because they aren't out of the ordinary anymore, hence why they are exotic. They should be treated with utmost value. I really do wish they were less easily obtained and that Xur would sell cosmetic/aesthetic items that actually look good rather than these exotic items. I mean really, they don't hold that special or rewarding feeling anymore. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate people having and using them, but I think these items should be obtained through a more precise and less randomized way. I'm not saying it should be easy to get these items, but the tasks required to achieve them should actually be challenging. Perhaps players would have a more enjoyable/rewarding experience and a more memorable one too. Maybe a system such as one where players can get a few sure-to-get exotic bounties a week or every other week, but they won't be easy of course. I do think the current exotic bounties need to be reevaluated. They're quite monotonous and boring, and they are practically the same. Kill this many whatsits and talk to who'sthat. Okay I'm sorry for anyone that read all of that, my morning rant is over. Tl;dr : Exotics should feel rewarding to have.

Exotics are yellow because each is supposed to have an OP perk only available to said exotic. That is the only thing that separates an exotic from a legendary. Bungie had said Xur was supposed to be the main way for exotics, and RNG was just a cherry on top instead of this huge Earn vs Xurn debate.
-
Exotics are not rare no one said they are but the is some rare guns with rare perk rolls on them
-
Fully agree. Felt this way a few times when a gun I got from RNG was given away like guardians are a guest on Ellen Degenerous.
-
seriously who cares man. 90% of these exotics sit in your inventory or vault. like seriously, who gives a shit

Edited by Tbino420: 3/20/2015 3:35:50 PMNo matter what your mother said to you... You aren't special.

2 RepliesDidn't even have to read. Exotic=\= rare The reason nothing is rare in this game is because of the lack of equipment, not because of a vendor. Everyday the game goes on every item becomes less and less "rare" The rarest items in this game are due to the unique rolls you get on legendary weapons. Those are the real "rare" items.

3 RepliesEdited by italoipo: 3/20/2015 3:15:36 PMI love xur, because rng jesus is a shithead If xur would'nt bring nice stuff i would be stuck since day 1 with the same 3 exotic weapons i get every time!!! Hawkoon, universal remote and plan c those are pretty much the only exotic i "earned" since day 1...but those like a bizillion times...and once a icebreaker and monte carlo...
-
2 RepliesExotics should be granted for completing tasks like exotic bounties. The most coveted should be the most difficult to obtain. For example, you should only obtain Gjallarhorn from finishing top in a raid party with no deaths on hard mode
-
So standing in a spot and mindlessly shooting into the distance makes for a beautiful weapon drop, but completing objectives and being rewarded a gun is stupid. I'm sorry, did I read your post wrong or is this actually your point?

1 ReplyWell better get used to it. With House Of Wolves getting closer..I'm predicting that Xur will "Randomly" be selling the Jelly or Thunderlord next week. He's been on point with the last 2weeks of items. He's getting rid of the old stock and working on the new. Also...i been playing this game from the beginning and earned (lucky arss drops) most of the exotics. Im cool with Xur selling these items. Who cares what everyone else has? Seriously! But i DO think that Xur should raise the price on all his exotics or make the weekly only give a few strange coins a week. I have 3 characters and getting 27 coins in 3 runs of weeklys is way to easy. Makes it so running the weekly every week isn't necessary...and only if Xur is selling something good for the week! Thats what Bungie needs to work on. Also this random drop thing is stupid. I think that Bungie needs to make running raids a marks earned thing and have a vendor sell raid gear. But thats just me...

4 RepliesMy problem with your logic: Exotics have special/rare perks and are not necessarily "rare" themselves. Next time, get into a raid and cry about how you had hard light before xur sold it. See if anybody gives a shit. I'd bet they don't.
-
This game is about shooting the same monsters over and over again with different weapons. Why would I play the same lvls again, if there is no variation in gear? And don't tell me about "earning". :P
-
1 ReplyAs many people have pointed out correctly, Exotic doesn't correlate to rarity. We have a weapon perk tree (how good this is is debatable) . There is no in game economy between players. No one earns any exotic (apart from Exotic Bounties), they are blessed by RNG. You earn strange coins on the chance you can buy what Xur sells (if you want it) but it is RNG what he sells from our point of view (i.e. WE have no control over his wares). Last week everything he had, I had or didn't want. This week, he has the Hard Light, which I want. What I'd like to see in game is stats based on kills/headshots on the weapon card. My Hard Light has 120k headshots for example (it doesn't) with a ranking percentage based on all players. That would give us the special snowflake status we so desperately seek. My two pennies.

Edited by Dolphinizer: 3/20/2015 3:25:34 PMThey arn't supposed to be rare I know you said that butLel

2 RepliesThunderlord is the rarest in the game imo especially because xur didn't sell it once. But I can see what you're saying overall
-
1 Replyawwwww... and another snowflake melts into a tear
-
Completely agree. It really takes away from the game when you can get basically any exotic more or less for free. I get the earned vs xurned argument, but for people who earned, they put themselves in a position to get these weapons through running raids and nightfalls to give themselves the best chances of getting it. Regardless of RNG, they put more effort into getting things than those who just bought it with the strange coins they got from being dragged through the weekly twice.
-
5 RepliesExotics are not by nature rare in this game. With or without Xur
-
Just gotta rock that Mythoclast then? I dunno I have all the raid legendaries now... Deleted quite a few to be honest, but had them all.
-
3 RepliesHey... I remember you! How are you? And I agree, I kinda wish Xûr wasn't in the game
-
17 RepliesWhy are people so upset by what other players get. If you want to earn it rather than buy it then don't go see xur. Who gives a crap what people do with the game they paid good money for. Stop complaining and go play the game...or don't, that's your choice.
