My problem with Xur - Exotics are not rare
We have a weapon rarity tree, as you all know (or do we?) which in theory determines how coveted a certain group of weapons is.
Unfortunately, because of Xur being able to sell almost every exotic, in effect this renders Bungie's beloved yellows not so rare.
In the beginning (day 1 player) I couldn't wait to see which yellow weapon I'd drop first and how awesome it was and when I got my Thunderlord and Hard Light from the loot cave (lol cave) I was so excited, and rightly so; both were absolute beasts and served me so well.
I then spotted other Guardians rocking fancy yellows and I became envious of Suros, Truth, Plan C, Red Death, all of which I have since received but each with a decreasing feeling of achievement and excitement. Because of Xur.
The game now has no truly rare weapons outside the hard raid, which is so easy to complete that every 31 and 32 should now have a Fang, Word or Defiant. IMO, of course.
So perhaps Exotics aren't supposed to be rare, but they should be, otherwise they're just legendaries with a buttery background. They are no longer special as they're all purchasable just like all Vanguard and most faction guns.
I want the next round of Exotics to be ultra-rare and not sold by Xur. That's what I want (I know it won't happen)
Xur should have a small selection or, let's say 6 or 7 exotic weapons, the rest should be those deemed as teh best weapons and they should only be rewarded by RNGesus.
There are no special snowflake weapons left now and (cue the hate) having a special snowflake weapon is something a lot of players value. We all now have the same armouries and so there seems little point in having a coloured rarity tree; all weapons are available to everyone.
To summarise, the word 'snowflake' was said.
edit - I am fully aware that 'exotic' does not mean 'rare', I am saying that Destiny's exotics should be rare but are not. Thanks for coming though.

Exotic does not mean rare. The exotics are so because of the perks (listed and hidden) that they have. All exotics should be obtainable by everyone who plays. If RNG worked based on how well we perform in any given activity (ie you get the most kills in a nightfall then you get the best drop) then I could understand the anger aimed at Xur. But they aren't. With the exception of bounty and raid specific exotics, all exotics are random, simple as that. Also, I know the post was a troll, but my reply is aimed at those agreeing with it that don't realise its a troll.

Outside of Xur some people would still be 30, and using rare weapons. I'll take Xur as an alternative.

The fault in your logic is exotics were already not rare before Xur sold them. For example, 75% of the people I play with have a ghorn. The rocket launcher is not rare. If exotics were rare you and I would probably not have one which would prompt people like you to complain about that. We all do the exact same content. Xur must sell the exotics at varying currency prices to even out the inherent unfairness with rng. If Bungie did another random roll and deleted 95% of the ghorns people have then you are on the right track... Make the ghorn truly random so only 1 in 200 have one. This sounds great to selfish people like you until the realization that you will be one of 199 who does not have it. Then your tears would flow. The concept of rare is different for the anti Xur mouth breathers. For some reason they believe they earned that ghorn being carried in a nightfall or strike and no one else should have it. The value of the item is not whether they have it but whether someone else DOES NOT. Two people do a nightfall. One gets 239 kills and carries a mother breather through the content who gets 15 kills. The game gives a ghorn to the mouth breather who then feels entitled to spout stupid on the forums in an attempt to prevent others from having it. I earned it!!! Garbage. Pathetic. Thank you Xur. Please sell the ghorn soon. Make the loot systen fair and equitable.

You are that making exotics that are "rare" with the only way to get them being RNG (xur can't sell them) would actually make the game worse? We already have people complaining that the "RNG sucks" even though its better than a lot of other games. A game like destiny needs a way for people to obtain some of the best gear in the game (exotics) without relying on RNG. Otherwise you lose the playerbase quickly. And the exotics aren't meant to be rare in the first place. They are meant to be unique gear that offers special perks compared to your average legendary gear.

the thing i hate about xur is he gives me less to play the game for. its almost like bungie is saying to me "DONT PLAY, JUST WAIT FOR XUR! HE HAS THE BEST CHANCE OF GIVING YOU EVERYTHING YOU WANT!" uh ok? so i'll just leave, then.... i guess....

3 RepliesExotic =/= Rare. It means foreign or unusual. Which can mean rare, but not necessary. Every Toyota in the USA is technically exotic. I kind of agree, as some legendary items are much harder to come by than many of the exotics. Exotics do allow you to change your play style though, as many have perks that let you do different things that no legendary can. That and we can only equip two at time. In the end, maybe I'm a socialist or something, but I hate games where certain items are nearly impossible to get, especially when RNG is involved. So yeah, that part of destiny irks me, we should be able to put forth effort and work towards a goal, even if it's far off. And to bed with me, is late. I stop making sense now.

My main gripe is that there is no way to go about working towards a certain exotic. If there was something besides just dumb luck that went into getting the exotics than I would be in complete agreement with you. I think that there should be a set on nonsellable exotics (kind of like thorn and invective) that have set challenges that you have to conquer and are ridiculously hard to get. Or maybe exotics that you really have to grind for like a special exotic for killing atheon 100 times or a cool fallen sniper for killing 1500 captains with sniper headshots. If that were the case then I would agree that xur shouldn't sell them and they would be really cool trophies but honestly the exotics are just dumb luck w no skill or work necessary so xur should sell them all. It is a bummer that exotics are not special at all but that stems from the loot system in my opinion.

Exotics aren't suppose to be RARE, they're SPECIAL. They force players to make choices for their loadouts and add variety to gear setups.

4 RepliesKinda hard to get mad at a game with a "get all the things" attitude. Again I use Pokemon as my example. There's usually only 1 *although ive seen glitches, rare but it does happen* of each legendary. You gonna get mad if other people catch all the legendaries too? Its content in the game everyone has the chance to get it. And as long as this game has been out, most of the day 1ers/beta players should have damn near everything.

1 ReplyWell Bungie did say that if you put in enough time you'll eventually get everything. The fact of the matter is if you have everything in this game, you are probably in the minority since not everyone can put in the necessary amount of time. Witht that being said, I do think there should be another tier of higher exotics that even the hardcore will have a tough time getting.
