Why hand cannons were left untouched inside checkmate? If primary weapons are the core mechanic of checkmate, why make HC so dominant that becomes almost mandatory to use them to be competent?
Edit: for those saying it’s a skill issue, have you read the twid? 🤡 😂

24 RepliesThat's pvp in general. Hand cannons require the least amount of skill, with virtually no drawback in their use. Unfortunately bungie designed them this way, and it'll never change.

16 RepliesEdited by Mental Athlete: 9/28/2023 10:45:47 PMAre you upset you die to a slower ttk than your immortal or ikelos or doofus fury? Sounds a lot like a skill issue to me idk. As far as your edit, it still took three shots regardless of the damage buff lol. The ttk never changed
-
Literally same ttk it’s just you think they’re better cus body shot dmg isn’t as high which matters for other weps but not HCs. Their ttk is unchanged. Only spray n pray players are not liking checkmate lol

4 RepliesMeanwhile Autos have more range, more aa, more stability and a faster ttk.

Until they balance the weapons better, I'm not going to play Hand Cannon Fandom. I've got my ability regens figured out to have a higher up time, but literally everything I use OTHER than a Bow loses every time to a HC. Most maps have very limited lanes that Scouts can actually take advantage of their range at and I'm not even sure that even DMT will kill in three. I've heard that some of the more skilled PVP Youtubers state that you have more HP in this mode, but I can't tell. If I land two head shots with anything I'm already dead, unless it was team shooting the enemy. If anything it feels like the enemy drops me faster and I can't drop them fast enough. Glad they have something they can enjoy/hype up.

Why is Checkmate:Control not just Control with less abilities?? I think Bungie totally failed and wasted their resources to make a hand cannon simulator. Your PVP community is complaining to you about lack of balance essentially.. that is what less abilities, freelance.. more viable weapons is about. And instead of delivering just the same flavor -blam!- without ability sprinkles.. you deliver a completely different experience where all of the rest of your weapons that you wanted to try without abilities are -blam!-. Now I may be missing some nuance of wtf happens when you limit abilities.. but I can't imagine all the rest of the weapons become BS. Glad its in LABS - REDO > for the majority of pvp community. Just make it control with less abilities. How is success even gauged in labs? its not announced in game (please try our labs and get back to us).. no poll.. doubt these are read. I get that handcannon mains will not be pleased but this is not what we asked for. -
Mind the skill gap

I was kind of looking forward to playing Checkmate until I read the TWID and saw that Bungie increased player health. I really wanted to play Crucible with much much less ability spam. Or as us old-timers call it, Halo.
-
is it really CBMM? Lagggier than any other mode for me.

It's like D1 crucible Do you want to die by Eyasluna or Palindrome ?,Do you want to use Eyasluna or Palindrome? So much variety -
Adaptive HCs and Wardens Law were doing 10% more damage, whereas weapons like Necro were still doing 21 to the head (I didn't look at body damage). This is in a mode that I think players also had more HP/ shields. I'm worried less about a harder to use primary type being slightly more powerful and more about others that were clearly left alone, unless Necro was an outlier.

I refuse to be a Guinea pig/test subject for it! Lol!!! Hope it works out for you guys!

I know, it's amazing isn't it.

1 ReplyIf Bungie has mastered something, it is Hand Cannon gunplay. I have no problem with an entire mode that caters to their strengths.
-
4 RepliesCheckmate is kind of like d2 vanilla pvp. They'll probably change rate of fire and impact to bring us from .7-1.0 to 1.0-1.3 ttk again. Personally, I don't like the slow time to kill... but that's definitely where they are moving the game.
-
4 RepliesYeah, it’s fun but I don’t want this to be all of crucible. Handcannons are more dominant in there than SMGs are in regular crucible. This is worse gun diversity than we currently have. I like the slightly longer TTK and more gunplay focus. But make 140 HCs a very consistent 4-shot and make 120s require 3 crits. Would be a step in the right direction.
-
I'd probably LOVE checkmate with vanilla health/damage. Currently, though, I think it's way too poorly balanced to be worth playing. It's either go to vanilla TTKs, or go to D2Y1 damage model, this in-between business just sucks.
-
That's kind of Crucible in general. At least for my experiences. I'm sure its different for others, but it can be sh*tty. I use them too at times, so not bashing people, but it does make Crucible alot less interesting when variety just isn't really there.
-
Tbh its a nice change from SMG spaming
-
Because HCs are good for the game
-
Because hand cannons are fun and there's like 80% of pvp left where it's not checkmate. Plenty of options if ya don't like it.

Edited by Vyper: 9/27/2023 3:38:58 PMnever touched CM because I can't use my freezie explosion build as much, cryo is broken + devil's ruin + final warning skill gap exotic sidearms are just busted in general lmao

2 RepliesGames feels way better when it's not always a sub/fusion in antaeus sliding at you with knockout or juggernaut. Love the HC focused play list. Play any of the other modes.

It's great

Oh they are different. If you keep getting body shots. The problem is if they tone them down more, they have to tone down everything else more because the sandbox balancing is just that delicate. I mean, it would be pretty different then, but then the moment special ammo comes into play, why use a primary at all? I don't like Checkmate for that reason.
