Gjallarhorn is probably one of the worst weapons in this game.
Its ratio is low compared to other rocket launchers, have you guys seen dragon's breath? its radius is way larger than a gjallarhorn one and has same damage obviously gjallarhorn sucks don't know why people like it also i have a thunderlord and u guys dont.
As the title implies, I have seen countless threads & comments of people hemming & hawing over not getting Icebreaker or Gjallarhorn from RNG nor getting it from Xur. This has led to a lot of people claiming that Bungie has pulled these 2 guns from Xur's inventory because they make the game too easy. Quite honestly, this is getting ridiculous so I am hoping this thread helps to put an end to the hysteria & tin-foil conspiracies surrounding these 2 guns:
First & foremost, the guns are not "game-breaking". if they were, they would have been nerfed just like the Vex & Suros were nerfed. Gjallarhorn is kept in check by the fact that an exotic heavy weapon relies on Heavy Ammo drops or synthesis so unless you are popping synths left & right, you won't be using this gun as much as you think. The gun really has a specialty use as a raid boss melter (Crota, Atheon, Templar, Ir Yut) but outside of that, its just an enhanced rocket launcher taking up an exotic spot. If you are running strikes (which I do a lot) you will not see Gjallarhorn used all that much vs other exotics (Exotic primaries). It sucks that fireteams make it almost a requirement to have one but to be honest, a lot of people in this game have gotten by just fine & cleared the raid without it.
Then there is Icebreaker which, IMO, is better than Gjallarhorn. The fact that it regens its own ammo is a huge advantage and makes it a great gun but there are some drawbacks that keep it in line. First is that while it regens ammo, it only does so 6 shots at a time. Unless you fire really slowly, you will have to switch to another gun to let it regen to keep up DPS such as on Crota, Atheon, strike bosses, etc. Second is the recoil. While not devastating, it takes a skilled hand to use quickly and land consecutive crits unless you fire slow. If you have this skill, then you will find the Black Hammer a much better gun (as I do) since you can down may strike bosses without ever reloading or waiting. My Ice Breaker has seen minimal use since I have Black Hammer as, IMO, BH does the same job.
Finally, in regards to PVP, both guns are not ideal since Heavy exotics don't do much good unless you are REALLY good at camping the heavy ammo drops (and if you are, Truth is a much better options with 3 rockets & proxy) & IB's recoil is too much for quick follow up shots.
With all that being said, Xur will sell these terrible guns once again. Here is a list of the guns Xur has sold since launch (in chronological order):
Red Death Gjallarhorn Suros Red Death (2) Icebreaker Truth Suros (2) Patience & Time Truth (2) The Last Word MIDA Plan C Plan C (2) Truth (3) Patience & Time (2) No Land Beyond Dragons Breath
This means that Xur has not sold Universal Remote, Hard Light, & Thunderlord. For all the people who are claiming that Bungie has removed Ghorn & IB from Xur, would they say the same about these 3 guns? The fact is that there are 14 weapons & 52 times in a year that it can appear. There has been 17 appearances by Xur at the time of this post so what are people expecting. Statistically speaking, the fact that both guns were available for sale early on was remarkable and the fact that neither has appeared since is not. TLW, MIDA, NLB, & Dragons Breath have each only appeared once as well. That makes 6 out of 17 guns making a solo appearance by Xur, it just makes sense statistically. Now it can be said that Bungie has intervened with Xur to sell certain guns (NLB & DB) but this is, IMO, to promote selling TDB expansion and not to change the course.
Finally, I think that once Xur does sell Ghorn or IB again (IB I don't understand, there was 70% ownership of this gun on the survey posted here) I do believe the hysteria will fade off the same way it did for The Last Word for those of us who remembered that time here.
I copied and pasted a large essay that talks about ghorn and IB in addition to my first sentence that Ghorn sucks. I personally believe that they are awesome and nothing comes close but i am provoking flaming comments from people who just drop comments without reading what people have to say. This community is garbage and ill prove it by the number of comments i get that bash everything thats written here. To the original poster- sorry nobody can read, it's not your fault... the next sentences i added to fill additional space.
Overall, Ghorn and IB are the worst weapons in this game and ill never want or need them..
If you have a ghorn, get rid of it, and dont even kid yourself with IB.

1 RispondiSo you *have* deciphered the rainbow's code! Did you have to fight through the swarms of mutant rabbits to get to the ether-safe containing the test materials? I could never find my way past the seasons to explore the various switches that might awaken me from the nightmare. Until the fever overtakes us all, of course. Anyway, I do appreciate butterflies of all forms, but enslavement is just plain wrong. You can't win if dragons have decided that you shouldn't wear plaid. There's just no getting around it - belts are mandatory.
