I have seen the argument that "if everyone has gally then it will break the game" so many times now that I decided to write this counter argument. (if you read my wall of text, I salute you!).
I will start with this question:
What makes people think that if it was sold (again) "everyone would buy it"?
Sure I concede a LOT of people would buy it especially those who have been playing since day one and are still to get lucky with a drop.
However that said not everyone has 3 high level characters some people only have one and so whilst coins are easily obtained for some of us it isn't the case for "everyone". As a result not "everyone" will be able to afford it. Just because you have 300 coins it isn't the same for everyone.
I have seen several posts this week about people struggling to get enough coins for Ice Breaker. So for a start if gally was sold, for instance, THIS coming Friday it would be difficult for at least some people to get the coins a second week in a row especially if they already splashed out on Ice Breaker or multiple Ice Breakers this week.
Further more, just like when gally was first sold there will be a section of new players (especially after xmas) that still are not aware of the power of it.
Not everyone visits the forum (only a very small percentage of the actual player base) and many people play solo and don't interact with others so there will definitely be a percentage of players who won't purchase it due to lack of awareness.
Then on top of that you will have another percentage of people who "just don"t like rocket launchers" who won't buy it.
And another section who will think, as some of us did when it was first sold, "why would I use an exotic in the heavy slot?".
Even from those that know it is good there will be some that love another exotic so much that they always run with that and will think it is a waste of coins.
Then you have to consider the rest of Xur's inventory at the time that gally is (sold for the 2nd time), some people might have a hard decision (just like some did this week between obsidian mind and IB, there were multiple posts about this on the forum). What if Xur was selling Gally and Heart of the paraxic fire? Some people will only have coins for one or the other again reducing gally sales.
Now you could argue that some of these are small percentages but they all add up when you think of all the possible contributing factors.
My conclusion? Even if Xur sold gally a second time there is no way that "everyone" would obtain it.
Moving on to my second point, even if a large percentage of the player base DID purchase gally what realistically is it going to break?
Seriously, STOP and think about it.
Think about what gally is actually good for, its good for boss damage right?
Ok so where are bosses found in destiny?
1.) Strikes - Ok so if you have a fire team with 3 gallys in it and you can kill the boss fast, so what?
So we can run a few more strikes per hour but that's it. Strikes don't drop raid gear and you still have to sink time into getting to the boss.
I don't see how this would break the game.
2.) Nightfall - same as above no raid gear and you still have to get to the boss. Ok so maybe you can more efficiently kill yellow mobs but really if you are packing the right set of burn weapons unless it is a solar week I can't see gally making any major difference.
I don't see how this would break the game.
P.S. Nightfall rewards are not what they were anyway with all the shards and coins.
3.) Weekly - same as the other arguments with the addition that rewards are rarely anything other than coins.
Again shaving a few minutes off a weekly is not game breaking.
4.) VoG - Ok so this is the only major difference I can see. VoG runs could be speeded up somewhat if everyone in the team had a gally (as shown in that now famous video that every tom, dick and harry seems to like to reference.)
However the majority of VoG gear with the exception of the Mythocast is either obsolete or on its way out.
So even if people could rush the raid I don't see how it would be game breaking.
All you are doing is saving "some time" here and there with any of the above activities.
5.) Crota Raid - Crota can only be damaged with the sword, ok he can be put in his Kneel state quicker with gally, and that is the only advantage I can see here.
There are still multiple cheeses (even after the patch) in the normal raid that can be exploited by one or 2 people that allow more advancement than should be possible either solo or in a small team than if everyone was packing a gally.
In comparison those cheeses have helped more people artificially or at least much more quickly achieve the highest rank than selling gally ever will.
Finally I would like to say that even if a lot of people brought gally it doesn't mean they will have one on every character or always have it equipped. Sure you would see an increase for a while as always when Xur sells a new toy but people get bored and like to switch things up a bit.
I really can't see how selling gally will "break the game". The only possible negative action I can think of coming out of Xur selling gally would be an increase in elitist raid groups discriminating against picking people who don't have it. As they would now expect you to have brought it.
I have tried to be precise in my argument but I am sure "someone" will pick holes and twist words as they always do on this forum...
*rolleyes*
and if you want to do that then go ahead, but I will only be replying to well reasoned counter arguments from people who have actually read my post.
Have at it! I am ready to "git good scrub"...
*sigh*
Peace.
TL/DR
For those posting TL/DR, it isn't possible to shorten this post. It is a detailed counter argument to all the posts claiming if Xur sells Ghorn it will break the game. The post is long because it needs to be to get the points across for the counter argument. I know it's long so you don't need to comment TL/DR.
Alternative TL/DR This guy says it much better in less words :)

I have a gally btw so this isn't a whine about not having it :)

Just nerf the GJALLARHORN and let XUR sell it that simple...
-
Wow sir u r a idiot u wasted atleast 1 hour on this topic when you could've been on destiny grinding for one
-
Well, like you were wrong. when HoW came out Gjallarhorn was the answer to everything. 3 gjallarhorn users can kill quodron before he activates his mechanics. How is that not game breaking? Remember the Skolas patch and the reason Bungie gave. Gjallarhorn is so powerful that it is the answer to everything. Xur selling Gjallarhorn will now bring all this up, but at a public level.
-
After hours and hours and hundreds of hours of nightfalls and raids you finally "earn" your Gjallarhorn. Obviously its random, but in a way you sort of do because after all the time and effort you put into all of them it finally paid off. I'm not saying this gives people a right to say, "It's not fair. I earned mine." I'm just saying that when you got it the old way it felt more accomplishing. I got one a couple months ago and it made my day. Now, that can't happen anymore, at least not to the extent it used to. Please don't attack me for saying this, but it was better off out of Xur's stock, simply because it gave people a reason to strive for something more in Destiny. I'm not talking about the fags who go around saying they deserve their gjallarhorn. Excluding them, we all felt that sense of accomplishment and that we earned it even though by definition you can't earn it because of the rng. I just had to get it off my chest.
-
Um, forget this post! Xur's selling Gjallarhorn !
-
2 RisposteHere everyone who doesn't have a ghorn and wants one give xur 13 coins and it's yours. I feel like people are gonna buy it and skip gear. The way I see it as game breaking is it takes the grind out of the game. Oh a tough boss meh 3 ghorns and he'll be down in 30 seconds. When the dev team wanted that to be a 5-10 minute fight. Ghorn allows you to run threw anything and any boss. Ghorn even on knightfalls is good when it's void burn, it beats truth. My opinion.
-
2 RisposteXur should sell Gjallerhorn. But... 1. 100 Strange Coin. 2. Nerf Xur's Gjallerhorn. Make it do 17% less Wolf Round damage. 3. Old damage stat. So we would have to use even more SC for ES. Yay or Nay?
-
In all honesty I'm wondering if people have even considered that maybe bungie have deliberately given gally to us because come TTK (those who will get or have pre ordered it anyway) most the current weapons will begin slipping into obscurity seeing as there will be a new "gally" everyone will be gunning for so why not just enjoy it while it lasts ... And yes I XURNED mine!
-
-
Check Xur right now.
-
If xur sells gally it will break the game until the nerf. Having 4 i cam say it is true. I dont care what you say or how you say it will break game. You say you have it if so you would know it makes things extreamly faster than say a truth would and this is without a burn.it is simply to strong if he does sel it there is a way to make the gun not as powerful. Make stronger bosses and or make some stuff immume to solar. Every one has it but it wouldnt be worth using. BECUASE YOUR BUNGIE YOU CAN MAKE GALLY LESS POWERFUL IN OTHER WAYS THAN NERF. You cant keep nerfing your game its a step in the wrong direction.
-
equip your gjally I bet you don't have it lol
-
So many dang words
-
Selling Gjallarhorn wouldn't break the game. It would simply get rid of one of the main "carrot on a stick" incentives. I'm sure there are people who only run nightfalls because they still want Gally, and other content as well. If everyone gets it, then what are they still trying to get? Once a player has everything, there is no strong incentive to keep playing. That's why I don't believe they will sell Gally anytime soon. Maybe right before the launch of TTK before it is made irrelevant.
-
It would not break anything. People are just bitching because they won't feel as special... Although, the gally is so damn prevalent nowadays with a lot people having one on each of there characters and more. Sell it!
-
3 RisposteDestiny is already "broken"... when a poor soul can't find a fireteam due to lack of a specific weapon, pretty much excluding them from most end game activities theres a major problem. I feel bad for guys who are stuck waiting for Rng to drop one for em'. Facts are facts and you get treated different when you have a gally lookin for a fireteam, that in itself breaks the game
-
3 RisposteNo, I think Gjallarhorn needs to be "That One Gun" that everyone hunts for. I've had mine for about two weeks and I never wanted Xûr to sell it before that. I'd hate having to buy it off him along with everyone else rather than have my own unique story as to how I got it.
-
Nice post man! I think You are 100% right! Even if elitist players would require of someone to have it it's only because they don't know anything about two other things: - skill Someone with true skill doesn't need one - teamwork Try to figure out how to work as a team instead of relying on someone to have a Gjallarhorn The only thing that would require so much more skill if You didn't have one is to solo certain parts of the PvE endgame :)
-
I think that Xur selling the gjallahorn would not break the game either. Since House of Wolves came out, many more people have been getting a gjallahorn from the prison chests. However, not having a gjallahorn makes it significantly more difficult to defeat the 35 prison of elders, so much so that people don't want you on a team if you do not have one. Xur selling the gjallahorn would not break the game, but will also make it actually more playable in a way
-
Dude I felt the same and then when I got Ghorn I understood why xur shouldn't sell ghorn
-
In short it's not about breaking the game if everyone had it But once everyone had it, they would loose a lot plYers because no end game content after it to strive for those people Not all would leave but a percentage they deem as unacceptable
