This thread was posted before hard mode even came out, was just comparing people's different ways to beat him on normal mode to see what was quickest.
There are plenty of ways to kill Crota on hard mode quicker than just using RT x 3, but most people seem to be more comfortable just doing it this way. If you want to kill him in 2 swords, down him three times.
I'll discontinue this thread because it has been irrelevant since hard mode came out.

i usually do RB RT RT RT (etc. depends on the timing)... the RB is more to get to him quicker and can just be canceled by the RT (but still deal the damage).... works for me so far *shrug*

i think holding left or forward while tapping R1 4x times or more is the best and safest way,

Tried the strafe method today and it worked wonders, 4 hits with the Sword per kneel without even trying.

RT RT RT RT while holding left analog stick foward. That allows for fastest swing time. 5 hits is even possible. 6 if you have Super

1 RispondiRT constantly while holding forward on the left stick is THE best method. Timed perfectly you can get 5 strikes in. 4 quite safely.
