When actors say they are alcoholics, are they really?

I don't believe for second that when an actor/actress say publicly they are struggling alcoholics, they really are. When they are 100% clean and not drinking any alcohol at all anymore and come out and say they used to be and such, then sure, I believe they were, but not when they currently are. The reason I say this is because I watched my father go through a alcoholism and he tried his hardest to hid it from my family. You see, from my experience, I think true alcoholics are the ones that do not talk about it but everyone around them suspects they might be. I think when actors/actresses come out and say they are currently struggling with alcoholism, they are doing it for attention and publicity. One example that can be used for evidence is that the ones that do this are the ones that have sort of a struggling career and haven't been in the lime light for a while. To further back this up, look at Whitney Houston. People suspected and other knew she was suffering from severe substance abuse because of some very tragic personal problems, and she never wanted to talk about it when she was alive and usually always denied it. She never came out and said, "look at me everyone, I addicted, pay attention to me." Anyone else think this as well? I know this is kind of random, but I saw an article where a once really famous singer just recently announced this to the world and I went, "yeah right."
