The Problem
Just to get these out of the way, T1-T4 items are the new blues. I see one and I instantly dismantle it. T4 is fine, but T5 is so easy to get that you might as well take the extra stat points.
T5 loot is too boring and drops too easily. It needs to be significantly rarer, but also much better to compensate.
My Proposal
Make T4 the new T5. T4 does everything T5 does now and drops at the same frequency (at the appropriate difficulty level). T5 on the other hand, should be fully customizable at any time. By customizable, here’s what I’m thinking:
Weapons: Functions identically to crafted weapons. You can choose your barrel, mag, and perks. Also including your masterwork.
Armor: You can manually allocate your stats into stats of your choosing. The +5 bonus of current T5 armor would also apply.
Potential Fixes
I believe this could solve several issues I have with the current loot system, such as:
- Feeling obligated to keep a lot of my armor, because there is no bad armor anymore (all have 75 stat). Now, I could replace several armors of one set with a single piece.
- Keeping several rolls of the same weapon for both PvE and PvP. One could take their place, and be adjusted depending on the activity.
- Feeling unwilling to grind because good loot drops so easily. Now, T5 loot will always be a passive incentive.
- Being able to actually make use of how easy it is to target farm certain loot in the portal (before that, we just had to hope and pray for the single thing we wanted in a pool of several armors and weapons to magically drop with a good roll). Now, we have all this choice but nothing to do with it.
Potential Problems
Now, I understand this could cause the same issue that we had with crafted weapons, but I’d like to reiterate that T5 loot should be incredibly rare. However, unlike crafted weapons, there is no stat advantage over its T4 variants. Both drop with enhanced perks, so a godroll T4 is as effective as any T5.
Due to armor set bonuses, there will still be an incentive to chase armor even after getting a full set of T5 armor. However, armor set bonuses aren’t always worth it (I ignore them myself most of the time).
Some additional potential issues:
- After getting a T5, all future drops of that item are worthless. Even if they are rare, this could be frustrating.
- A lot of people have the mindset of “If it isn’t the best, I don’t want it.” Despite there being no inherent advantage of a T5 over a godroll T4, people could get frustrated over low drop rates.
- Burnout for people specifically chasing T5 loot would and should be immense. However, this could be frustrating for some.

Anyways, what do you think? What would you change? I’m no game dev, so there’s bound to be areas that could use improvement.

3 RisposteI think you make some excellent suggestions. The only issue I see and I don't care what some might say because deny it all they want, there'll be the same complaints there's always been: RNG is "weightgated" (which is a real thing, no doubt) or "gatekeeping." Why do you suppose T5 gear has become so commonplace? Easy, because some people don't want to wait or work for it; they want to score it with minimal effort.

I think the current loot situation is a slight overcompensation for edge of fate. But because that was so hated how can they ever bring back grind and scarcity?
