The Hive were worthy.

The hive were already chosen by the traveler prior to the darkness intervention. It is likely that once the worms were removed from savathuun and her brood that the traveler would then be able to grant them powers of the light. So here the question still lies what makes a race worthy?

  • The Traveller chooses anyone it thinks will save it from the Darkness chasing after it. It is a coward.

  • The Traveler chooses schemers who will sacrifice anything to accomplish their goals/protect what they love. That's why Uldren was chosen.

  • The Traveler chose the Krill, not the Hive. That’s who it is siding with/giving it’s power too.

  • <This all depends on what made the Traveler choose Savathun. See, the ultimate decision of who is given the Light is up to it. Not to mention that no one has been granted the Light as we have until the Collapse. So by "chosen", the Witness probably meant that they'd get a Golden Age. Being granted the powers of the Light is a whole different ball game, but there is a reason we were chosen and reasons why certain people were chosen. Humanity was chosen because we were in the right place at the right time. The Traveler reached an epiphany, likely spawned from the fact that it couldn't go anywhere this time. It thought to itself that it must rely on its children, AKA life, now. And so, it issued the Wager. It told the Winnower, and subsequently the Witness, that if it could grant power to us, that we'd ultimately align more with its ideology (which currently, we have, even if we had some troubles getting there). That's why humanity was chosen to be given power. However, only certain people are brought back to become Lightbearers. This is due to two things. 1 is a set of criteria from the Traveler, that being devotion, bravery, and sacrifice, regardless of morality. Uldren Sov is a good example of someone who, despite being an absolute -blam!-, fit this criteria perfectly, which was drilled in during Forsaken's campaign. The 2nd reason only some people become Lightbearers is because each Ghost-Guardian pair share a specific Light frequency. This Light frequency is also why the Vex were only able to drain Saint-14's Light rather than every Guardian. Light frequency can also be manipulated, the best example being Drifter, who kitbashed his Ghost's shell, which allowed him to access multiple Light frequencies and even frequencies "beyond" the Light, which is how he acquired Stasis. So, the Hive were deemed worthy to be given a Golden Age. This puts them a smidge over, say, the Cabal, but that doesn't guarantee being given it, especially with their history. Savathun herself is arguably the worst of the Hive, being probably the most selfish, which goes against all of the Traveler's criteria. That being said, she defended it once before. So we come to the ultimate question, why? One could argue the Traveler chose her for defense. It knew that she would gain immense power and try to keep it safe from the Witness and the Winnower. This would be an example of "forcing itself to be cruel", which is what it did with the Eliksni and Riis, leaving them in order to save them from total annihilation but also to save itself because it is alone and if it dies no one can stop the Pyramids. The other argument is that the Traveler made a choice to give her power in a sort of extension of the idea of the Wager, this being an example of forgiveness for her crimes in the hopes that she could change her ways. Unfortunately, past Savathun pretty much ruined her Risen self's chances. So if we have anyone to blame for the Lucent Brood's continued cruelty, it's still Savathun. Call it naive, but that's kind of the Traveler's thing. Furthermore, there's an argument presented by Savathun that she alone was chosen, rather than the Hive as a whole, and that she used her newfound power to draw in other Ghosts. This is supported by Fynch, who described having this unexplained urge to go to the Throne World and resurrect a Hive. However, it remains unconfirmed. We do know that it's possible to have Ghosts flock around certain people though. The Speaker was someone who was constantly surrounded by Ghosts, who felt an urge to be around him, likely due to his connection to the Traveler, the mind they were once a part of.>

the hive were not but the krill were, i think. the krill chose to obey the laws of the underworld and became masters of their own disasters. now that the integrity of the traveler has been compromised, again (?), death is coming rather faster. we all drown to the sound of horrible laughter... unless of course the guardian(s) save the castle and rescue the princess whose name has yet to be revealed. my guess would be her name is Goldilocks or somethin' edit: were they actually chosen by the traveler? actually no, i don't think so. they were organic lifeforms created by the Sun. they didn't have ghosts to revive them etc. when the krill were facing extinction, instead of accepting their fate, they sold their soul (fractal of sol) to the... desolate one. in Greek mythology, Hades is the god of the dead and king of the underworld.

The Hive were to be claimed by the Light. Chosen means the Light, were as the Hive would have gotten a Golden Age, like the Eliksni, like Us. {Do not Take the Unveiling as Truth, the Wager at this Point is Contradicted by Savathun's Worm.} Edit: what makes a Race worthy? Bravery, Devotion, Sacrifice. If those 3 Actions are met....then you're Worthy. Despite Moral or how big of an @$$ you were in a Past Life. 👀 Uldren 👀.

They were worthy as they descended, honestly everyone/thing is...just like the darkness, but I don't think you have to be "bad" or "evil" to use the darkness...you just have to be a boss a$$ -blam!-.

          • I think its less and less about who is "worthy" and instead its about who can make the best use of these tools. Bungie pushed pretty hard that the darkness was just a tool and I think the same is true for the light. The Witness and the Gardner (correct me if I'm wrong) have there own goals in mind which is why (I think) the Traveler choose Savathune. Savathune was a means to an end for the Traveler and that end was safety.

          • What makes a race worthy? Convenience. The only reason the traveler grants power to civilisations is so those civilisations will praise and protect it. Whatever race is currently most likely to do so is where the traveler will be heading and granting power
