So according to Bungie, when you make an account with them for the purpose of playing cross platform on Destiny 2, it will use the initial platform account name in combination with a # and 4, numbers. I got a warning for seeking support for this in the way the web support suggested with my issue and now every time I play a game, some random that's not happy with my playing has my email show up every time they get taken down...
Help. Or I'm just waiting for Halo 6.

3 RisposteThe name change function isn't available for anyone until Bungie launches it sometime this winter as announced in a couple of recent TWAB's. You'll have to wait until then to change it.

9 RisposteFrom a forum post on GameFaqs discussing the difference between Steam Account Names and Steam Profile Names:
Your account name is how Steam identifies you internally and how you log in. Your user name is what you display to everyone else. Multiple people can have the same displayed name, but accounts are unique. So, for example, you might have to take the account name promo456 because promo123 is taken, but you can still show promo123 as your user name.
It appears that the Bungie Name Steam players are given is based on their Steam Account ID (which is the unique identifier used as the username when logging in) and should not be confused with the Steam Profile Name which is displayed to other Steam users (but is, in and of itself, not required to be a unique name). If this accurately describes your situation, then it seems you’ll have to wait until Bungie moves forward with their plans to allow for players to change their Bungie Names at some (as yet unannounced) date in the future.
