Gwent is more fun than Witcher 3’s actual combat mechanics
I just started the game and found this out rather quickly. The combat isn’t bad but it’s pretty meh. I’ve only played 2 games of Gwent and I’m already addicted to it

Even when combat with Nekkars triggers in the wild it pauses and starts a Gwent match.

I thought its combat was really good, but it took me a long time to get a feel for it so that I could get Geralt to do what I wanted. When I played through on Death March I really had to learn how to best use every magic and skill in order to beat it. It's probably the last hard mode to give me a challenge without just being instant kill nonsense.

2 RisposteYeah I never like Gwent. Skipped it totally after the first few games. But I agree the combat in The Witcher was never that great. It’s serviceable but not that rewarding. The main drawcard in The Witcher was always the story and the writing for me - and just the exploration of the open world. I find that the combat in most open world fantasy RPG’s is kind of mediocre. Elder Scrolls and Dragon Age games for example. The few exceptions I can think of are Horizon Zero Dawn, Dark Souls and Dragons Dogma. Others I’m sure but I can’t think of them right now.

Gwent was so fun. Early on in the game I completely dropped the story, and went around exploring and challenging everyone I could to Gwent. Decoys and medics FTW.

I’ve got a couple of hundred hours in the Witcher 3 and have never played Gwent .
