Fiona Hill, the former National Security Council senior director for Europe and Russia, and David Holmes, the political affairs counselor at the U.S. embassy in Kiev, Ukraine, will testify Thursday in the impeachment probe into President Donald Trump.
The PBS NewsHour is hosting live coverage of the hearings beginning at 9 a.m. ET. Watch in the video player above.
Hill told lawmakers in closed-door testimony last month that then-National Security Adviser John Bolton expressed concerns that the Trump administration was trying to pressure Ukrainian officials.
Holmes testified behind closed doors that while he was at a restaurant, he overheard Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, speaking to Trump over the phone about “investigations.” The call came on July 26, a day after Trump asked Ukraine’s president to investigate 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.
That July 25 call has become the focus of the impeachment inquiry. Lawmakers are seeking answers on whether Trump tied that investigation to U.S. aid for Ukraine.
The House Intelligence Committee has heard from several witnesses this week and last week in the public phase of the impeachment probe.
7 RisposteI thought it was funny when Nunes called Vindman Mr. Vindman and he replied "Ranking Member, it's Lt Col Vindman, please." 😂🤣 But it's sad seeing all these Republicans attacking a military war veteran with a Purple Heart. One Republican even tweeted Vindman was the whistleblowers handler 🤦♂️

Trump totally debunked this whole thing. He had a notepad, written in sharpie, saying he wanted nothing, he wanted nothing, he didn't want a quid pro quo and that's the final word of the president of the US!! And it was written with a sharpie so you KNOW it has to be true!! Seriously, though, how funny is it he had to keep glancing at that note when talking so he didn't get it wrong? 🤣😂 and why would he say tell the president of the Ukraine he didn't want a quid pro quo months ago if it was never brought up? But his partisan hack supporters will believe it.

Keep fighting tough, Republicans, you are dealing with human scum who have taken Due Process and all of the Republican Party’s rights away from us during the most unfair hearings in American History......
House Democrats are now human scum, according to the president. This is authoritarian speak, and must not be taken lightly.

1 RispondiModificato da NeoIcarus1: 11/21/2019 9:41:15 PMWell I liked Fiona Hill until she protected George Soros. She is very knowledgeable and capable. Too bad her analysis of Ukraine and Russia after Russia invaded was wrong. She seems to realize that analysis was wrong during Obama's term. She seems to be testifying because of what happened to Yavanovitch and Giuliani's role in it. I do still like her, Soros comment does bother me tho. She does make Sondland seem impetuous and over exaggerates certain things. Makes me wonder about his testimony. As for Holmes, a good guy who seems to want a bit of attention. Sondland disputed his testimony the day before about mentioning Biden in a phone call in Ukraine. So his testimony is in question. Had to use his notes to remember a very important day he will never forget. Not sure I believe him. Final result; Not one person says Trump told them to trade money for Biden information. In fact, what was proven is Trump wanted information on 2016 election meddling and Burisma to prove he won legitimately in 2016. This whole thing wasn't about 2020, but 2016. Trump stated he doesnt care about Ukraine. Altho the people he put in charge of it, turned the whole situation around there. Volker says he and Sondland set up the quid pro quo to get Trump to engage in Ukraine cause he didnt want anything to do with them. The quid pro quo was a White House meeting for investigations into 2016 election and Burisma. Sondland says a quid pro quo was WH meeting and money for investigations. Tho he says Trump never mentioned that. In fact Trump says the opposite to him. Sondland only presumes that the money is linked because he didnt ask Trump why the money is being withheld. The money could have been withheld for a variety of reasons according to all the Ambassadors. Trump doesnt ever mention why money is upheld so everyone makes a presumption that might not even be correct. If no one even asked him why? Until that question is answered, I cant see how he can be impeached. The Dems have already decided to impeach him. If the question is ever answered in the Senate, the answer could go both ways. It could make the Democrats look really bad for rushing their vote to impeach. It could also allow for 20 Republicans to vote for impeachment. I did watch all 5 days and everyone who testified. I want to know why the money was withheld.

23 RisposteInteresting seeing the narrative that Ukraine interfered in 2016 taken down, alongside the narrative that Ukraine was not feeling pressured/was unaware of the withholding and desire for investigations. Two more defenses fall.

A final bump comment from me. Today's hearing is the final public hearing that was scheduled. As of now, there won't be anymore public impeachment hearings as the House Intelligence Committee writes their report of their findings during this inquiry.

4 RisposteGoing into today's hearings, I want to emphasize that Sondland not only testified that there was a quid pro quo regarding military aid, but that "everyone knew". Sondland also testified that he was lead to believe that once the Ukrainian president announced public investigations will he get a meeting with the White House regarding the aid. Nothing about actual investigation, only a public announcement.
