My theory behind the nerfs.

So remember how everyone complained that Crota was "to easy" Remember how EASY it was to just cheese your way to victory with overpowered everything? What did bungie do for taken king? they took all the op shit away, yeah thats right, THEY TOOK IT AWAY, and made the game quite a bit more difficult in exchange for a updated armor system aka INFUSION. Seriously how has nobody noticed this pattern yet? Sure you can say the same thing about d2's launch but they took everything away. This time they are taking the Taken King approach, even giving taking an extra month not only to try and polish it but also because of borderlands three which in all honesty was a smart move. Now look at year two of d2. the majority of them were made into cake walks because of the wells with lunafaction boots, and now it has been nerfed hmm what also had a massive damage output in d1y1...... The Gjallorhorn, that thing was taken away for a whole year, and it made everything a lot harder, back in the D1 day strikes were actually challenging! they were not walks in the park even if you had self res but self res did not = god mode enabled. Well was the incarnation of god mode in pve especially if you had lunafaction boots on, and after that bungie had to substitute interesting and puzzling encounters for raids into shooting the bullet sponge 2.0, the reckoning was also built around the spamming of super abilities and even then it was still to easy and resulted in bungie being heckled for "bad game design" So as i stated above, they are doing what they did in taken king, they are upping the overall difficulty and taking away the the god mode bullshit that allowed the year 2 raids to be turned into actual jokes, like we did to crota.

  • Kings fall was harder because of mechanics not really because of weapons being nerfed. I mean you technically never even damage Oryx with weapons.

  • Well the reckoning WAS bad game design. The well and other spammable supers only function of there are a lot of low tier ads, and Shadow Thrall and the perfect ad for those supers. If they just pulled their heads out of their butts for like 5 mins they would've just made it have a hunch of high tier enemies on the bridges that wouldn't get deleted right away. Boom problem fixed.

  • Games like this have to walk a fine line. They have to be difficult enough to be interesting....but still allow us to feel powerful enough that the game is fun to play. Go too far to either side....and the game dies. So there is only so much POWER that the game can allow us to have before you start to damage the game. You can either lump all that power in one tiny corner of the game...or you can spread it out more evenly. When you lump it all in one corner of the game there is no variety....there is no build diversity...adn the game becomes boring and predictable. We all run the same builds. We use the same weapons...and chase the same perks. IOW....Every fight is level up....Drop a well with Lunafaction boots...then spam whatever is the "meta" heavy weapon for that particular season. No need for any thought or strategy....because that one build is OVERWHELMINGLY the best solution to every problem. So the game eventually becomes dull. But when you spread out the power more evenly....you create a situation where the player can become powerful. But you give the player CHOICES as to what that power looks like....how it plays....and what impact it has on the game. Destiny 2 plays like the first case...where all the power is lumped up on one corner of the game. Destiny 1 in Years 2 and 3 played more like the latter case. Bungie is trying to take this game back to playing like it did in Destiny 1. But the only way you can do that is take BACK some of that power from the overpowered parts of the game. If you leave it alone, and try to make everything else as powerul...you break the game. The game just becomes a shoot-and-giggle affair where nothing in the game is a credible threat. Yes, Bungie is nerfing a lot of the current meta. But they are also giving us a LOT of power back with how we build out our armor, and in the perks of the Artifact. But people get tunnel-visioned. and hate change....so they don't see the buffs. Only what's being "taken away".

  • I don’t like feeling weaker as the game goes on. I liked popping heads in D1. Basically anything non elite and non shielded could be 1 hit with a scout rifle and it felt great, to me anyway. I never had gally till post nerf (I got the preorder one from the quest, it REFUSED to drop for me along with a handful of other raid items that I desperately wanted such as the primary fusion that atheon dropped (but not for me. I forget the name)) Honestly gally seemed overrated even pre nerf to me. I always used Truth and loved it, till they nerfed it into worthlessness. But honestly by that point everyone I did raids with was gone anyway so I never did raids anymore. But yea I miss popping heads left and right all the time. I will be giving the game another chance (I quit pre forsaken because I was so disappointed, having preordered the ultimate edition thinking they would only improve upon d1) but now the cancer (Activision) is cut out so I’ll give them another chance (but moving to steam, mostly because of MCC coming to steam so I’m getting back into pc and built a new one because of it. Been waiting for halo to come back since 2. I’m excited for that) If I still hate it, I will just go back to d1 most likely. It’s not that I hate destiny 2, it’s just that difficulty ramping up so much is not my thing. I don’t play dark souls for the same reason. Too hard and it isn’t my thing. I play games to relax, not to get sweaty. 😅🤣🤷🏻‍♂️

    • If that was the case, wouldn't it be more efficient on their end to cap power lvl in certain events then reprogramme a whole slew of moving parts? When Menagerie first dropped it was challenging when even the ads were tanking. Once everyone got to 750 it was a speed run to the chest. The power cap should be permanent to keep it at that challenging level. When you need to pop a well and lunafactions just to take down a yellow bar noone is going to say its too easy by seasons end, especially when those tanky ads are running into the well and slaying out.

    • Nerfs are used to artificially increase game difficulty and that in turn leads to longer play time. That quest you could do in 10 minutes is now done in 15 since you are weaker in both defence and offensive abilities. This was also the reason behind enhancement cores..... I mean infusion cores..........(asss hats), they increased play time here by linking progression to long grinds and bounties.

    • I hear. I think a lot of vet guardians see that. What frustrates me is that seemingly no one realizes how this is no accident, this a purposely created cycle. Bungie is doing this on purpose. Why? Taking advantage of know human behavior.
