For god's sake keep loss mechanics out of quests

Basically what the title says. Nothing is more frustrating than seeing a huge chunk of your progress disappear. Especially if you HATE doing the activity. It's bull crap, lazy padding to extend play. If you REALLY want to extend the grind keep it FIXED but a bit longer. This only punishes average players. Hyper competitive sweats will have no problem breezing through, but average players (the crucible step for Last word for instance) will be disproportionately punished. It is poorly designed. Have the step be, kill 150 players, or something. It is even, fair and not going to punish average to lower skill players by taking away progress. Or put a cap on total loss per match.

  • Slightly above average non tryhard here I got my last word last night and if you do on a streak in crucible you can get it done with ease I am not talking about being good I'm just talking about being smart with how you play

    One question. Name a loot based game (besides destiny), where it is easy to not only get the highest rarity weapon in the game but be guaranteed to get it. If anything make stuff harder in D2, man all this complaining. It’s an FPS RPG style game, let it be hard to get stuff bc getting it will be more worth it, I’m tired of “oh wow, go talk to ____________ to start my quest and be Guaranteed an exotic!” Make it so I have to actually play the game to EARN an exotic quest, not be baby fed content bc I only have 10 mins to play. A Casual Player in a game like this, is a Lazy player.

    • I understand where you are coming from OP, but I have to say... once you get in, it may not be as hard as it sounds. The Crucible was a different place last night. Everyone there was playing to max K/D ratio, and it changed the meta. It was exciting and fascinating to see how player behavior changed.

      • The fact that so many people are losing their minds over the quest blows my mind. i got on today to try out the quest and it is completely and utterly not what people on here make it out to be. i just had two bad games by my standard- a 1.5 and 1.8 efficiency- and am already at 50%. i am average and this is just another day in the crucible in my eyes. No idea how so many people are struggling.

      • Wait are people really complaining about that step? It literally took me 2 games to complete that step. The hardest part honestly is getting those medals, and with mayhem it’s easy to do. People out here complaining about a pretty easy quest.

        • If I can get through the PvP steps, anyone can. I’m not great at it at all, average at best, but I wouldn’t expect it to be easy. It will be easier for lots of people I’m sure, but it’s certainly doable. Granted, it made me try a few different load outs before I found what worked best for me...... but that’s the challenge. It definitely shouldn’t be easy, it’s an exotic quest! Bungie is damned if they do and damned if they don’t though I guess

        • The new Last Word quest.....the Crucible section.....what f'n bollox is that. It states if you lose the progress will be slowed....it doesn't say if your team wins you'll still lose points for being neg in the match!!! FFS Bungie sort this shit out and stop working up players who aren't what you bunch class as elites.....

          • I went from 33% to 1% in 2 matches. Granted that I did spawn into 2 matches that my team was losing so everyone started leaving. So I'm salty about that, but I'm not complaining. But situations like that is a little annoying. But overall people are making a bigger deal about this than they should be. I mean a lot of the quest from D1 were way harder and time consuming than this and a lot of us still did it. I don't care much for pvp but I'm not against it. It can be fun sometimes and working towards a quest and the feeling of accomplishment when you finally get the loot is one of the best parts of this game.

              I believe you get +2% for a kill, +1 for an assist, and -1 for a death, so you have to maintain a K/D of .50 or a KA/d (efficiency) of 1.00. THIS IS NOT HARD! I'm a PvE player and have a .93 K/D average in crucible, and was still able to do it in 5 games. You just have to play smart, work team shots with your team mates and don't rush in solo. I typically don't give a damn about my PvP K/D, so my first game, I played like I usually do and only got 4% progress. Next game, I decided to play a bit more conservative and jumped up to 51%. It's about play style and playing smart. If you work with your team, you should be able to get it in 10 games easily, even if you are not a PVP expert. And for everyone saying that this quest step is ridiculous, grow a backbone. Not everything in the game should be given to us for free. I'm seeing so many comments along the lines of 'We payed for this game, but can't get the gun', you basically disprove your own point. You payed for the game, so play the game. If you want to pay for loot, go see Tess Eververse. Should we also remove raid exotics because not everyone plays raids? Should we remove Nightfall specific loot because not everyone plays Nightfalls? Should we remove pinnacle weapons because not everyone wants to grind content for them? Destiny is a looter shooter and we need reasons to play the game for loot, and this quest is FAR from a grind. Personally, I'd like to see more hard-to-obtain weapons for both PvE and PvP, even if it means I have no chance of obtaining the PvP weapons. TL;DR: get gud Edit: I also want to point out that the originator of this thread has made another post complaining about losing 2x motes for deaths during the Malfeasance quest. I'm not trying to hate on one person, but I think it speaks to a larger issue: We as a Destiny community cannot allow casual gamers to dictate the difficulty of the game.

              While a small part of me would love to see this, it is overruled by the D1 Thorn and other exotic quests (remember 200 NF kills with a fusion rifle?). They were brutal for 'average' (or worse) PvP players but when I got those guns it gave me a sense of accomplishment. Put in some effort, not everything has to be easy. Edit-spelling

            • You must really suck today was the first day I’ve played crucible for the quest game one I’m at 32% I’ll have it done in 2 more games. If you play smart and not like a weeb you will get it done.

              • I am a average player it took me 8 matches to finish this step of the quest. Match K/D went like this: 1.44, 2.83, 1.38, 1.22, 0.92, 0.17(our team was decimated by two guys on the other team who both went 24-0), 0.82, and finally 2.67. That second match at 2.83 put me at 64% complete when it was over. Matches 5, 6, and 7 is where I made no progression due to going negative(I floated around 87% for these matches). Match 8 I went a little sweaty and overcame this part of the quest. This step took me a legitimate 90 minutes to complete. I am not a PVP slayer nor do I play with the meta. Watch those lanes and stay patient Guardian!

              • Disagree OP I love the mechanic. I loved it in D1 with Thorne because it made getting the gun memorable and this is better because it's waaay more forgiving. Plus, there should be some difficulty to a gaurenteed quest step gun. To get this done you don't even need the kill. Tap someone and run away. Use grenades to inflict a piece of damage. I hate to say it, but use gemini jesters on a Hunter, the effect of the Dodge counts as a tick of damage and goes toward your KDA. Maybe you don't get it in a day, but it's not going anywhere. Play it smart and you'll be fine.

              • disagree - loss mechanics shouldn't be on every quest, but they also aren't just padding. they require you to plan and play accordingly instead of being allowed to just potato around. this isn't a 'get good' comment. Malfeasance is a great example of this. you want the gun, you have to play Gambit and be smart about it. This step of TLW is no different.
