So I've used sidearms and SMGs throughout all of forsaken and I've learned some things about which archetypes need changes.
1.) 900 and 600 rpm SMG's are still very viable with their ability to melt shotgunners before they reach you; however, 750 rpm SMG's really struggle with being able to do that, I find myself leaving the opponent on very little health when I die.
Possible fixes: Slightly increase 750 rpm SMG damage/ slightly decrease shotgun 1hk range (45 rpm primarily)
2.) Sidearms in general are just outclasses by every close range weapon, because shotgunners will kill you before you can kill them and SMG's just have a greater ease of use.
Possible fixes: to put it simply reduce sidearm TTK and increase their hit registration . The reason I say hit registration needs a buff is because I cannot even count how many times a sidearm bullet just disappears in the middle of a gunfight causing me to lose.
If you don't believe me about these problems then go into a week of Crucible using nothing but sidearms and SMGs. Also to anyone that thinks commenting "Learn how to use them better", I am a top tier player and I know how to use them better than many people in this game because I am one of few that try and not brainlessly shotgun ape everyone in sight
Up vote this so the Bungie devs see it

SMG’s are in a great spot. Practice baiting your opponent. It’s also very important to use use it as a short range auto rifle and not get within shotgun range. Just keep this in mind: SMG’s don’t work on all maps. On maps like convergence for example, they struggle because of all the small rooms and blocks in your way. Sidearms definitely struggle but mostly for Mouse and keyboard users. They’re really good for controller users though.

Sidearms are incredibly powerful.

If your consistently being killed by shotgunners while using sidearms or smgs then I think the problem might be you. I got a decently rolled last dance that just strait up saws them in half when I properly absue it's range. Sure sometimes I get killed, but when I do it's not the gun's fault I made a mistake and got punished by a stupid decision. SMG's are pretty much the same way, although personally I find controlling the recoil on them to be difficult over here on consoles. Have you tried back peddling while hip firing at their head when they get close ... that usually works for me 'x.D

4 RisposteModificato da SpinachF: 12/23/2018 6:13:25 AMThe Smg is actually quite OP for Crucible, especially with kill clip. If the smg got a buff they’d be to OP for Crucible, are you guys brain dead by any chance? And have you actually used them more then using them once and being killed?
-
I agree. They’re definitely usable, just need a little more oomph is all. Anonymous autumn is really fun. Risk runner in the right situations and huckleberry with the catalyst are really fun as well. I love shotguns but they are just too prominent rn. Buffing smgs and sidearms a little more could level the playing field more I feel. I’d rather buffs to those archetypes than a flat out shotgun nerf tbh.
-
Side arms are great? Smg's need a buff though
-
Have you used the traveler’s chosen in pvp. It’s a monster

4 RisposteHuckleberry melts pretty fast.

Yes please

Smgs damage buff a bit. Side arms feel fantastic to me. I use all kinds of them.
-
3 RisposteSMGs have been trash ever since they were introduced. No stability perk will help and mag size is laughable. Range on them is a joke too. Out of a 30 round mag, I might get a third of the bullets on target. Things are garbage and in serious need of a buff.

5 RisposteModificato da Reclaimer: 12/23/2018 7:09:38 AM
I am a top tier player
No, you’re not. I don’t even have shotgun kills on my Gunslinger (the like, three or so I think I have are from a Private match), but I don’t say things like that. Your stats are laughable when coupled with how you make a statement like that. Mine are above average, and not only do I not take them or myself all that seriously, I naturally wouldn’t count myself as “top tier”, either. Do not ego when you have no sound reasoning for it. And damage is not a problem with SMGs or Sidearms. Their inconsistency coupled with the ranges of their intended use mirror that of shotguns. The consequence of the new weapon slot changes. People clearly forgot the meta before Forsaken. Antiope-D (SMG) and Last Hope (Sidearm) dominated the Crucible in the stead of shotguns for ages.

Buff 18k range to sniper range and I’ll will be fine.

Ive been using last dance a lot recently in pve and honestly its really fun to use. I think its decent compared to other weapons and the aim assist seems really forgiving. My roll has rangefinder and outlaw.
-
1 Rispondimy last dance has the perfect roll and wrecks a lot. I think shotguns need a nerf to range. Sidearms could use a slight range buff. SMGs just need a good damage buff.
-
No they don’t, you’re just using them wrong. Their proper use is to be dismantled into gunsmith parts or infused into anything other than a SA or SMG.
-
I agree with every single smg buff. Sidearms are in a very good spot in my opinion. The single shot sidearms could use minor buffs tough
-
Titans running peacekeepers with smgs, 900, 600, or 750 are still gods.
-
1 RispondiModificato da LOGAN906: 12/23/2018 12:07:01 AMI honestly can't think of one time I've ever used a sidearm in D1 or D2. Complete waste.
-
6 RisposteSide arms are fine smgs need a buff sure but Side arms are the last things in the game that need a buff right next to shotguns and fusions.
-
The burst sidearms are underrated tbh. I’ve only used them a couple of times and they were pretty good. Single shot sidearms and smgs need buffed though.
-
Tad more body damage and range on them might do the trick.
-
5 RisposteBro throw on a vertical orbit side arm. That things amazing.
-
2 RisposteReminder to everyone in this thread: a shotgun should be objectively better in close range than both smgs and side arms because shotguns have limited special ammo the others don’t
-
2 RisposteWhy is everyone ignoring snipers? They need a big buff or just nerf shotguns. Or go back to the old gun system and make it so you don’t start with special ammo
