D3 needs to be a M rated game
With all the hints and rumors of the D3’s story, and it’s dark setting, with the arrival of Darkness and such, I really feel that D3 needs to be rated M for Mature, so that they can go all in on that dark plot. Destiny’s narrative would be so much better if it felt a bit more mature.

100 percent agree. Forsaken made great strides, but it almost feels held back with how much potential there is now due to the rated T rating.

3 RisposteIt doesn`t need to be M/Ma-15/whateverthehell rated. The Destiny story doesn`t cover themes that warrant a M-rating, hell, if it weren`t for the occasional minor swear or Fallen decapitation it could pass for E10+. Hell, the only reason I see for D1 to be rated T is Red Death, since it`s splattered with blood. Same goes for D2, with Crimson and its blood splatters. You want an example of something with a family-friendly rating doing a dark story, look at the original Land Before Time. The Sharptooth fight during the earthquake is really intense, and the outcome of said fight would make any child cry (it certainly made me cry). Not to mention the scary imagery that crops up throughout the movie, like volcano scenes.

19 RisposteNo it doesn’t. Every other major game out there it seems is M rated and it’s a complete relief to have a triple A title that actually isn’t M. I don’t need to be assaulted with F-bombs by Ikora to have a good story. (And just for the record I’m 54 so not some teenager hoping mommy doesn’t take my game away). Please leave us one FPS game in the industry that doesn’t go to M rating just because someone likes to see blood, gibbing and hear foul mouthed characters.

4 RisposteI hate to tell you this but they specifically marketed the destiny frachise as a game intended for 10 to 16 year olds with the prime focus on around 13 and 14. Activision doesn't want a challenger to it's call of dipshits franchise (the worst thing to ever happen to the FPS gametype) which in spite of being mostly played by 9 year olds who like to scream homophobic and racial slurrs but really just need their asses whipped by their parrents is actually intended to be an adult game. Destiny was never intended to be an adult game which is why the first one was so bad, they literally took the entire story of the game at the last minute and through it in the trash because it was too mature for their intended playerbase.... Something Destiny has since admitted to, one of their community leads saying "yes it's true destiny had a number of road blocks and mistakes in direction were made near the end, but while a day may come many years from now to discuss the behind the scenes going ons of destiny's development, that time is not now... That's basically them saying "yes, all that crap you hear about us ruining the game at the last minute because it was too mature is true, but we're just not going to go into specifics because the reality is so much worse than what you might have heard and that's better left for years later when we can all look back on it and laugh and laugh... At you... Don't get me wrong. Destiny 2 Forsaken has a really solid game play physic I'm having a lot of fun with. I did pay for it after all, and I am playing it, but for someone who cares deeply about story telling, I'm not going to just stop caring that they flushed their story down the toilet because they think that you, as a 12 year old, are too dumb to grasp depth of a story so they deleted the story and just left the gameplay physics for you to play with. Anyone in their prime age demographic should be DEEPLY offended to realize the reason this game lacks driven story content is because Bungie think's they're too dumb to be able to appreciate it. It's like saying that 14 year olds should stick to reading books about teenage mutant ninja turtles because His Dark Materials and Michael Ende's never ending story is too complex for their small and fragile minds... And don't get me started on Never Ending Story. If you have seen the movie you have no idea what the book is about. But that. Is another story. And shall be told another time.

Naw. It's a video game and fine as is. What do you want to ad? T&A, profanity, blood and gore? I think the game has done well without it. Of course it doesn't need to be made for 8 year old nieces either.

A game doesn't need to have gore and violence to be dark. Forsaken is proof of that. I would honestly hate it if it was rated M. That would just mean there's a load of unnecessary violence to make it more attractive to adult gamers who think they need to play violent games to justify playing them at their age. It's kind of sad, but that's how some people think.

Like you can make really dark shit happen in T games, you just need to push it. Like I agree, I want more line like Ikora saying "We're going to mount the head of that son of a bitch on his precious throne." That was awesome and dark. But you really don't need to say -blam!- at all. That would almost bring me out of it. And like Uldren and Cayde dying. They so could have shown them getting shot. They chose not to. It really has to do with Bungie more than the rating I think. Of course I say all this assuming that T-Rated for games is somewhat similar to PG-13 for movies. [PS - I feel like this might be asked, so I'm just gonna put it here. I'm 16, but my parents don't really care. On top of that I'd be 17 or 18 by the time D3 gets released so this wouldn't affect me whatsoever.]

Changing the rating doesn't change their lackluster story presentation. I'm curious as to whether any changes they make from an M rating would even help. You believe things are the way they are because the team has arbitrary restrictions on them, that is not true. It is this way because it is easier to write stories that do not get more "mature". I guarantee you that if you got your wish, the story would have no noticeable improvement.

Destiny is a good example of a game that is above T for teen and below M for Mature. A T-15+ could easily open up some wiggle room for a darker story that’s front and center. Keeping all the “dark” stuff in the lore is cool but I’d like to think it would be better shown to us in the game, instead of read. I’m not slamming in the lore at all btw I love it and am happy it’s finally in the game lmao.

28 RisposteD3 does not need to be M rated. Not at all. Having more mature content does not make a better story, in fact, Destiny's storytelling has far surpassed most M rated games I've ever played. We really don't need to have the F-bomb being dropped the whole time we're trying to play a game.
