Repeat exotics are killing my motivation to play the game
Every time you get one its like punch in the gut. Games are not supposed to feel bad. Don't respond with they said they would fix it. There are TWAB's that date back to 2017 talking about fixing duplicate protection. The worst is having your raid drop be a repeat exotic, now you get robbed of a raid drop and have a worthless item. You can't even infuse cause the system is also broken. I feel like Bungie once again knocked out the first month and left a clusterf$% for the endgame.

I appreciate all the support and people sharing there stories of why this sucks. When asked why exotics are important this was my response :
Exotics literally change the way you play. If you have the Hunter guantlets that give super energy when used blade barrage that would dramatically change the way you play. the same for Phoenix protocol if you play the new subclass. If i am 600 and have beaten the raid, do you think that i might be a bit bored with the current ways i have to play. Each new super(most not all) have an exotic tied to maximize its play style. I can't experience that cause every time an opportunity drops is just and old exotic. Thus locking me out of the new experience. I'm 100% ok with exotic item drop rate i'm not ok with the 99% repeat exotic drop rate.

I've played a lot of Forsaken lately. 1) I love it. 2) I've only had two exotics drop. Two-Tailed Fox (super cool), and a 'forsaken' leveled pair of Aeon Soul gauntlets. I would concur that Bungie may want to tweak the exotic drop rate just a smidge.

They addressed this issue, they will be releasing a patch Oct 30 that increases drop rate of Exotic engrams, decreasing chances of duplicate exotics dropping, and increasing chances of getting not yet obtained exotics.

Fix the prime engrams that only decrypt for the same class item as well.

Was the same last week.. spotted an exotic on the ground and was so excited, then instant disappointment at getting ANOTHER coldheart... Its a serious buzzkill getting all these duplicate year ones that I have gotten over and over. I think its more annoying that bungie is well aware of this issue, and is taking there sweetass time in fixing it, when the duplication issue has been a standing problem since launch of the game.

Yeah, the current system is a bunch of BS and I am in the lucky camp as I have 6 new Forsaken exotics to go with about 18 dupes. The dupe insanity is also one of the reasons why I am losing interest in the game. The cherry on top of this shit sundae is the fact that most of the Forsaken weapons are by and large underwhelming or way too niche so even when they may drop, one quickly realizes it wasn't a big deal. I have got 4 of them to drop and don't use any of them since there's no logical reason to use my exotic slot on them when I have Sleeper, Whisper or Ace that I can use. Actually getting them to only find out they're underwhelming was a big letdown. Like getting socks for Xmas when you were hoping/expecting some kick ass toy. Some of the new exotic armour though is definitely badass. I have Phoenix Protocol which is great (minus the insane amount of bugs) and Heart of Inmost Light is also very nice. I look forward to eventually getting Shards of Galanor and the Warlock boots for Chaos Reach. The positive is that Ophidia Spathe and Crown of Tempests are amazing for the new subclasses and at least with Crown, I plan to keep using it and would only switch to the new boots before a big boss encounter when I would plan to use the super. There is also the chance that even with Shards, I'd keep using Ophidia for all the knife throwing you get with it.

My most recent exotic was from crucible and when it dropped i saw gauntlets and got excited. The excitement quickly turned to disappointment when it wasn't Shards of Galanor, but the Mechaneer's Tricksleeves i already had. Before that i turned in Petra's bounty for the powerful reward on my Warlock and got another exotic gauntlet i already had, which was the Ophidian Aspect. I'm not really concerned about a light level increase being 590+ at this point, i just want the new exotic armor for any class. I don't even really use any of the new weapons, because my loadout is pretty much always Midnight Coup, Ikelos shotgun and Whisper for PVE. I can't even use mods on those weapons and i find them to be most effective and i found myself going back to them after trying other weapons.

I got the Wavesplitter, my fourth Forsaken exotic, yesterday. Still cursed with Year 1 exotics every now and then, though.

They need to remove Year 1 exotic weapons from the loot pool entirely. Exotics should be dropping new gear more often than this. Screw the grind. I want something new to play with.

For some reason my hallowfire heart dropped at the same power level my chest piece. Not sure if I’ve been leveling the wrong way or if it’s just a bug.

Ya I have roughly the same problem. Over the last 6 weeks I've dropped a total of 4 new forsaken exotics. Queens breaker which is well the D1 version, with is still a pretty useless exotic perk. Grave mag boots which makes chaos reach alot more powerful. The six coyote... which I probably will seldomly use because it dosent match my armor. Lastly because I think it counts 1k voices

The only new ones I have are Ace of Spades (which is technically NOT a new exotic) and Wish Ender. I’ve gotten 6-7 exotics total since Forsaken launched. So I can totally relate to what you’re saying. I’ve also had terrible luck with powerful gear as most of my powerful gear drops tend to be items that are my highest pieces and therefore will drop below that items light level. It’s been super frustrating.

I hear you loud and clear. I play daily, get all my powerful engrams each week plus a lot more. I’ve seen maybe 4 exotics, zero being new forsaken exotics. That annoys me. What annoys me more, knowing that bungie recognized the problem and implemented Xur’s fated Engram. I don’t think getting 1 new exotic per week is asking for much. Instead they screwed us by not allowing fated engrams to drop new items and RNG continues to screw ‘most’ of us.

Yup, that’s it, I am feeling the same way, all year 1 drops and 1 duplicate, the chaperone of all things!!! What? I just did the grind for that stupid thing and here it is in a random drop? I sure hope they fix it, game is awesome right now, except this issue, which should not even be an issue!

Yes yes yes yes. It is honestly demotivating. Exotic drops are now extremely rare and even worse when you do get one it's just a duplicate. There just isn't a point anymore
