Developers/publishers aren’t greedy. Change my mind.

People need to stop and think before they get mad about paid dlc and microtransactions. The developers/publishers are people with jobs and they need their paycheck just as much as you do. Now I understand that people will argue that they go overboard with it but are they really? Games have been $60msrp for the past 30 years despite inflation, roller coaster of an economy and not to mention the advancement of gaming technology that developers have to account for. Along with that the players keep wanting more and more content for the same price or even free. And the free content we do get like in game events and updates that add content gets quickly dismissed at the thought of microtransactions and paid dlc. This is all why we receive “unfinished” games with the rest locked behind dlc. Games are more advanced and difficult to produce than they’ve ever been. Yet players want just as much if not more content at the same frequency that they’ve been getting for the last 3 decades all for the same price. Seems to me that the players might be a bit greedy. Change my mind🤔

  • The main priority people need is to not let kids rinse their credit cards for stupid shit. That way developers would focus less on that.

    • I'm sure there isn't a single greedy game developer or publisher. I'm sure there isn't a single example of a modern game being released with fewer features, fewer maps, fewer modes, and less total variety than a previous game. I'm sure that it doesn't seem a little bit odd that the quality of games that can be played for free has been inching closer and closer to the quality of $60 releases. I'm sure it isn't the slightest bit odd that some giant publishers are routinely shutting down small development studios, not because they produce a flop, but because their projects aren't just as successful as the biggest hit produced by the most successful studio owned by that publisher. I'm also super duper sure you wouldn't benefit if you starting looking out for yourself more as a consumer.

    • Actual DLC expansions are fine and usually fair. (Not all games, but some.) Microtransactions on the other hand promote and encourage devs to build the game around preying on the weak, cutting or canceling any fun content that can't be monetized, like anything that can be played offline (eg: Firefight) that isn't just a short campaign. There are plenty of videos out there that elaborate on this and prove it's a fact, so I have no need to elaborate any further here. Just look at Halo 5. Other than campaign, you can't do anything offline anymore. They want you online where the microtransactions are. Look at their lol WZ Firefight. Always online and pay to win with a capital $.

      • I agree with most of them, but it’s hard to not call someone greedy when they start pulling scummy tactics. Of course, the companies that are greedy are greedy on the higherups, not the average workers.

The only people arguing this don't read any financial reports from these companies, or just research in general. EDIT: No one should have to come here and convince you by the way. The fact that you make this thread with a challenge of "change my mind", highlights how hellbent you are on not seeing things the other way at all. If you actually want the full picture go research yourself and quit being a complacent lazy ass.
