Already have worries about the money grab with Year 2

So... I'm sitting here watching the Twitch stream for the Year 2 reveal of Destiny 2, and I was like... Soooo freaking excited. Sooooo excited all the way through the vid doc and even into the beginning of the actual live stream, but then they introduced this thing called the Annual Pass. I could be overreacting, and that's part of the reason I'm making this post, but it really seems like the Annual Pass is just a new way for Bungie to content block the community and seep you dry of money without actually really giving you any new REAL content. So, is the Annual Pass like the DLC bundle you bought when you first purchased the game, except for the next year of coming DLC's? Or is the Annual Pass a new pay wall that essentially brings a pay-to-win experience into Destiny? The way they talked about it on stream made it seem like the later. Like a way for Bungie to stay afloat because they've been taking hits in their revenue because Destiny 2 and it's subsequent DLC's really didn't hit the mark. If that is the case, I don't think the community should be held accountable for that loss and be responsible for recouping it. So please please please tell me I'm wrong, and teach me a little more about what's really going on. Also, can I get your opinions? I'm interested to hear about everyone's impressions on this. Thanks Guardians, S1R

  • They just want as many people coming back every once in while to check out what they paid for Pretty logical business move though considering the games that are coming this fall.... They are scared as -blam!-

  • No, I think what they are trying to say is... “we know we’ve not done a great job with the story campaigns of the DLC, so rather than releasing 2 expansions with story content over the next year, we’re going to release 3 expansions, forget about cinematic campaign missions that everyone will complain about, and put those resources into bringing you shit you like, such as endgame activities and more loot and new challenges to make existing content replay-worthy and put the story elements into the in-game lore, since we actually can do lore pretty well” This sounds much better to me personally

  • The annual pass is a dumb ass tax. They're leaving this shit for dead after Sept and that annual pass is one more grab into your wallets. Dont fall for this nonsense. They're gonna take the money and run.

  • To compare to another game let’s look at warframe. They put in new guns, warframes( characters), and adjust or add game modes for free. This gives players a steady stream of things to play for and do. But when the sell things, like a “prime” warframe, it’s in a pack that costs $80. That gives you some boosters, game currency, 2 weapons and a character. $80 is steep for that, but you get updates because some people over pay. I’m okay paying 70-100 dollars for a game I can play non stop for a year. But we won’t know if it’s going to be like that until after it comes out. Just wait to see and decide then.

  • With the ANAL PASS they should remove eververse. It's either eververse or dlc. Having both is scam. I can't understand how people think that a multi billion company needs micros or even dlcs. You stupid -blam!-s really don't know how rich people live do You? Wait for it. Eververse will get even more shiny with the new 70$ release. That's cool for a FREE to play .... wait...

  • The annual pass is a way to keep a content flow into the game. It most likely will be like a DLC but with no new destination. It won’t lock people out of activities because Bungie fixes that with CoO. I think it’s a fair thing to introduce because it drops content like a raid lair and crucible maps for the community for a price a lot cheaper than a standard DLC. I would probably hold off to buy it until we receive new information, but I wouldn’t worry about it.

  • It just sounds like a subscription, doesn't sound much worse than paying 15$ a month for something like World of Warcraft. Could be shit, but we don't know that yet

I don't get why the kids freak out so hard. 70$ for 4 expansions is 15 bucks a dlc. That's normal price! Even on the low side !

Well to be honest, some may say the traditional Y1 styled of DLC, one at the end of the year and one at spring was quite ineffective as it left many other parts of the year with dry content. This has always been a problem with Destiny, considering it's contains many elements from a MMORPG - a genre where it is prominent to launch releases and updates fast. So having an Annual pass will most solve those problems, gain some customer satisfaction for new content as well as not block existing players from things you already payed for. However I must eloberate similarly to MMORPGs, if you aren't purchasing that annual pass or those DLCs, you will certainly lose out in things like Iron banner where light level matter(s), new story missions, strikes etc. I assure you, without the annual pass new content will not be playable, obviously since you haven't bought it. Sure the price is a bit sky high, but you aren't going to buy a single dime (excuse me while I cash in somethings to eververse) until summer of 2019. To sum it up; yeah the pricing sucks - so does microtransactions. But it does solve Destiny's content draught and that is one step forward for Bungie.
This is just my opinion. Feel free to disagree.
• Honestly it seems nothing different than what we have. A new DLC with each season. We already have this.

                • If you're worried about $30 a year you need to get a job. I spent $45 last weekend taking my wife to the movies. Popcorn and coke cost the same as a Bungir dlc and guess what? We got 2 hours of content out of the $45. Do the math and please stop whining over nothing. If they started charging $10 a month or something then that would be scary. As it is, people stopped buying from eververse.

                    • Wait till they start charging for future DLC and backtrack on saying the season pass was paying for it. It's just like when they said the sale of emotes in D1 paid for future updates and then charged for DLC.

The problem with the annual pass concept, for me, is that Curse of Osiris and Warmind have been such lazy DLCs that they’re asking a lot for me to buy three more sight unseen. Are there still going to be story missions reused as strikes instead of unique strikes? Is the vendor armor going to stay the same again while Tess continues to stock new and interesting things each expansion? Are the campaigns still going to be so short? The upside is that D2 is finally starting to feel right again with the changes they have made over time, so at least these expansion will have a better base to stand on.
