Is that the same as ping? I remember MW2 always saying I had around 50 when it was searching for a game?

  • No. Ping is the time....usually in milliseconds...that it take for information to travel from one computer to another. (light/electricity moves extremely fast, but it still takes time to get from point A to point B. The sunlight you're seeing now, left the Sun 8 minutes ago). That time is one of the sources of latency or lag. Tick rate is the number of times per second the program updates what is going on in the game. IOW, the game only checks for player action about once every 100 milliseconds. Low tick rates can also create the perception of lag because actions that happen at different points within that 100 millisecond window will be interpreted by the game as having happened at the same time. That's one of the reasons why you get so many kill-trades in Destiny compared to other games.

  • Thanks i also was wondering the difference between the two . So ping as low as possible (example i have a 12 ms ping in tittyfal 2 ,and it runs godly) And tickrate as high as possible .

    And bandwith as high as possible. But that's if money is no object. IRW, you have to make compromises. Think of it like plumbing. Ping time is the length of pipe between one location and another. Bandwith is the volume of water that can flow through the pipe per second. Tick rate is the number of times per second the system looks for changes in the system.
