I'm gonna let you all in on a little secret. We're going into the third year of Destiny and a lot of you haven't realized this, but LL does not determine someone's skill.
Now you all must be thinking, "But Mexi, if my opponents LL is really low, I can One tap him." And sure that is a possibility, but if your opponent, is several times better than you, they can still out play you.
The same thing goes for PvE. You could be LL 400 on normal WotM and perform worse than someone who is LL 370 or even 360.
TL;DR:
LL is important, but it doesn't reflect your skill.

18 Rispostelol @ the goons who think im bad at pvp cuz of my light level... its because i only play crucible and never do strikes and rarely raid? and all i do is practice at crucible? rarely do i see someone who has a 1.5kd+ player that keeps in practice in the crucible and manages to keep up with weekly pve activities.

6 RisposteModificato da Pellmell54: 11/2/2016 10:38:13 AMNah, but it usually is a better meter of accomplishment. If you are close to 400 you've probably gotten hard mode done a few times. If you are 385-390ish you are a complete unknown. Maybe you can get it done, maybe you can't, and unless someone personally knows you, they have no idea which it is. I mean seriously, no matter how skilled you are, the people matchmaking with you don't know you from adam, so people will generally opt for a admitted imperfect measure of capability, because it is better than nothing.

I didnt like stepping foot in trials until I got higher light cus the enemy kept surviving headshots and grenades didn't put in work. But yeah it is true, LL doesn't mean you're better than the other. Just means you grinded probably more than the other
-
4 RisposteYeah. I had a trials match last week with some people below 360. My friend thought it would be a easy victory since he was 399 and the rest of us are above 390. They played very well for being at a disadvantage in light. If we where the same light level it would have been down to the last match, but the ll made it much easier.

8 RisposteBut there is much more risk when you're under leveled, but props if you stay alive. ✌️ ~TheGreatNike

And your point, this is a skilless game,
also it's just a game
-
We had a guy that panicked when he was empowered and he never made servitor calls so the other mid had to while using a gun.
-
Had a 390 guy in my team claiming he was very skilled. He did not know how to use a cannon. I disagree with your opinion.

LL means Light Level.

4 RisposteJust curious.. What exactly is a good indicator of skill in PVE? Lol
-
I left a raid party once because they wanted to kick a friend of mine from the group due to light level. He was the only one that had actually completed it, and something like 50 times!! (Oryx hard mode challenge - it was the reason I didn't complete year 2 MoT) He was by far the most experienced and probably the strongest pve player in that raid party.

25 RisposteI like to reference grimoire to get a idea of skill. High grimoire=lots of time invested=higher skill....in most cases lol.
-
3 RisposteWhen you pick up a random from LFG, you're taking a risk. You have no idea how good anybody is. The only stat you have to go on (unless you dig deeper) is their light level. You're going to take the higher light level guy more often than not. I don't know why people post threads like this so much. It's so easy to reach a high light level in year 3. If for whatever reason you can't, make your own group. It's pretty simple.

Modificato da Dooodley: 11/2/2016 10:52:15 PMEveryone knows that but when you are looking for people to play with - and don't know anything about them - it would be stupid to not increase the requirement, as some form of fail-safe. It's kind of like when I'm arguing that raid matchmaking should be in the game. I never do that under the premise that matchmaking would follow the same rule-set as when you go in with a manually formed fireteam. That's not what matchmaking should be about. MM should be for people who have done it before - making communication less important - and are geared to steamroll through it - basically farm mode. So if the light requirement normally is X it would be x + 20 or so in matchmaking. This is how the 390-400 requirements work in #LFG - people just want to eliminate as many possible problems as they can, with the facts they have. And sure, sometimes it's not enough but it's way better than spending 30 minutes looking through every person's stats - which can be misleading too.

4 RisposteModificato da MƏĐJƏĐ: 11/2/2016 12:30:05 PMI think LL gauges how much experience someone has had, but this differs from person to person since things like the level 40 booster exists. Honestly I'll still pick the higher LL in a group of people since there is a basic correlation between experience and time. On the other hand though, skill usually is how you build your play style around yourself to further improve you gameplay and isn't really numerical in a sense. It's more of a you gotta "see it to believe it" kinda deal. Yes there is kd for PvP which is an easy way to guess skill which usually works, but kd isn't really the best decider some times because there are those people that let others do the work for them or those that highly fluctuate from game to game. And finally there's the thought that usually runs through my head where I ask myself if I "really" want to be with that person if they have a bad reputation and are an insufferable prick, because honestly everyone has a tipping point for how much salt is absorbed before they've had enough and leave that person.

3 RisposteHow are you not a 400? It's so easy
-
1 RispondiWhen you hit LL400, you'll stop caring about this.
-
i find it funny too but i would rather take someone that is appropriately leveled for an activity than someone that is underleveled and may have the skill to do something (stay alive and shoot some adds). basically i want someone leveled to a point where i know they have a gun and can drop adds in less than one magazine rather than a low light that uses an entire magazine on one vandal class enemy its easier to teach someone leveled right where to stand and what to do while killing enemies than it is to do the same thing for someone getting 2 hit by everyother enemy
-
Tried aksis phase 2 with 3 different 385+ groups tonight, filled with complete utter morons who don't have a clue, joined a 398 + group did it first time! The point is that whilst light level of course doesn't equal skill, if you're playing with randoms you have to give yourself the best chance of cutting out the idiots and light level is one of the only ways to do it!
