It's been over 2 years since the new consoles. To get a PS4 console and all destiny expansions (including the new one) it would cost approximately 580 dollars. There has been 1007 days between the release of the console and today, meaning that you would have needed to save about 57 cents per day in order to buy a PS4 and everything Destiny so that you could continue using the app and playing the game. The only ones who fault it is is yours, even if Bungie is being a bit of a dick to old generation players.
It sucks, yeah. But is easily avoidable. Even a kid mowing a couple lawns a week or shovelling driveways in the winter could scrape together enough by now.
Here's some math I did for a similar thread.

Except this "math" completely misinterprets that concept of saving.

The "math" as you put it was basic and done in 5 minutes. Yeah obviously no one is setting aside 57 cents a day, that would be stupid. But let's say you want the next gen console so you put say 10 dollars away every week, which mind you isn't a lot. You would have enough for a new console and Destiny by the end of the first year, giving you tons of leeway in the next year and a half of saving if you miss a week of saving. If you can't seriously put away 10 dollars a week it means 1 of 3 things. 1) you're horrible with money and its your fault. 2) there was other much pressing matters to save for, in which case I'd say don't bitch that you can't play a singular game. 3) PS4/Xbox One was not your priority and you didn't really care about saving for one, in which case you still don't have the right to bitch about not being able to play it.
