3oC made getting exotics boring.

Remember back in year one when you got an exotic drop it was actually exciting? With 3oC it just doesn't feel the same anymore. 3oC mad getting an exotic a very lack luster experience. I get that it helps out a lot but it just doesn't seem very exciting to see an exotic anymore. Anyone else agree?

  • I like the idea behind it that this consumable makes it more likely that an exotic will drop but I think they missed the mark when they structured it as an engram drop. I remember getting a ton of exotics in year one and even the specific moments. If they made it so that the exotics just dropped as the exotic it would still work for me.

    • Not only that, but with all the quests it's extremely easy to get exotics. I don't mind exotic quests, but the exotic bounties made me feel much more excited when I finally got it... I guess because it was a random chance to get it? I also just think some of the exotics need a bit more flavor added. Sleeper simulant, for example, is great but only because it does high damage. Suros Regime can pretty much be replaced with a weapon that has glass half full and focused fire. Spinning up in y2 made it a more interesting weapon to use. If the exotics can be more geared towards a certain role in a PLAYSTYLE (not just 'this is really good on bosses' or 'this is great for add control in Kings fall (looking at you ToM) but instead be something that the player, if they like it, can be used in some form in all situations (fitting their playstyle) and not feel like a waste (ahem sleeper simulant) It'd also be nice to see the Nightfalls become more rewarding. In y1 Nightfalls were extremely difficult (Archon Priest with arc burn, etc.) and usually ended up giving an exotic or a really good legendary (which were also a big deal back then). While I'm on the subject of legendaries, there are so many ways to get legendaries that it's kind of like "legendary Engram? Ehhh, I can get those for 75 marks at the cryptarch." The legendary engrams also kinda suck just because they're often at least 10-20 light below what you currently have. With the current legendaries, the majority of the perks you're likely to get aren't that good, leaving players constantly grinding for that one perk that makes that gun good. It would be a lot more exciting if they actually helped with progression.... Rant done. Wow, I really got off topic.

        I agree with you, but also remember in year one you could buy Exotic Shards to level your exotic gear, once leveled you didn't need em anymore With infusion system you need a ton of shards of you want to keep your exotic gear updated and you can no longer buy them, and the drop rates of exotics without 3oC is as low as year 1 was; so yeah while 3oC took off the excitement of getting exotics as reward, we need a way to keep the shards income up

      • Have people forgotten that exotics were supposed to be difficult to get but are worth the long grind now exotics are worthless and weak because they are to easy to get

      • 3oC isn't good, but neither is complete RNG. Hundreds of hours in year 1 without a single hawkmoon to show for it. [spoiler]got it day 1 of TTK from that engram they gave everyone[/spoiler]

      • The problem is exotics are relied upon in certain scenarios. So missing out in a black spindle, or gally, etc can really set you back. The problem is we want to search for rare and highly unattainable weapons and armor and expect exotics to fill that void. Unfortunately the way it's structured it can't work like that. Unless bungee introduced something rarer that an exotic piece. Which in my opinion they should. Exotics will never be able to be exciting like they once were.

        • Getting exotics was exciting for the first couple months after the game came out. I think a few things took away from the excitment like Xur, all the extremely easy exotic quests, 3oC and the fact so many exotics kinda suck. It was just cool in the begining running into another guardian during patrol or whatever and inspecting them and seeing some interesting item they had that you hadnt seen before, but it just became so easy to obtain them that they lost their appeal to me. Ive said before on reddit that i would much rather have one or two exotic pieces that i rarely ever saw anyone else have than be able to collect every exotic piece of crap.

        • Its odd that strike exclusives are the hardest thing to get. However, I dont agree with your statement because I usually keep getting the same thing. And with nightfall all balls I definitely like having a better chance at a drop.

        • What the hell are you talking about? I used around 40 3oC and got 4 exotic engrams. 2 were boots and the other 2 were heavy

            If I played as much as I did in year one, I'd agree with you. I don't have the time for hardly any weekly activities these days, 3oC make my life a little easier.

              Nerfing made exotics boring, not 3 of coins. Ice breaker, gally, vex sought after exotics. Now we get engrams which decrypt into hard light and hereafter...who cares

                Yes, I also can't be bothered to do the quests. I've done the end bits helping others too much at the start to even give a Damn. I'd happily get rid of the coins and have quest weapons drop also. Weeklys, nightfalls and strikes are completely pointless now. For everyone saying I don't know how hard it was to get good drops. It took me over 1000 hours gameplay to get the gally and countless raids.

                • I miss the old days where exotics were actually rare. Now if u get something above 290 from the nightfall you feel special.

                    It was never exciting aside from Gjallarhorn or Ice Breaker for me. Year 1 had some amazing exotics. Hawkmoon was awesome (sorry to the xbox guys could never play it before the neutering). Now most year 2 exotics kind of suck so there's not much excitement to see them drop. I mean what are some of the new, RNG obtained exotics to come out after TTK released? Sure Zhalo is good (mostly because it's elemental damage) but what else is there. XBox'ers can't get the Jade Rabbit, Telesto is a fusion rifle, and Hereafter would have been a decent legendary weapon but mediocre at best exotic. Everything else was from quests or just year 1 exotics brought forward. The other problem was how fast you got exotics with the Draksis strategy/cheese. Lightly grinding him over a few days gave just about everyone all the exotics in the game. The rate that 3oC works now is more than sufficient with it being heavily weighed toward armor pieces.

                    • No, PVP made getting exotics boring. Why? Because no one wants to use an exotic weapon/armor that got nerfed because PVP players cried for nerfs. Remember Hawkmoon? Remember Twilight Garrison? Bones of Ahamkara(sorry if I butchered the name)? Those were used a lot not only because they were good. They were fun, they felt exotic. Now, there are better options in the form of legendaries. Tl/dr: PvP made getting exotics boring

                      • Totally agree, farming strikes and crucible made it actually worthwhile when you were looking for an exotic. Now it's a case of, bleh, why do I even bother.

                      • What you mean the one exotic I got that wasn't from xur, and BTW it came from a legendary heavy. But it was a ghorn so I wasn't complaining at the time.

                      • I miss it so bad. That's what kept me playing the excitement of getting a new exotics that were rare. I remember getting my 1st from a Roc strike it was suros.

                      • Every 3 of coins I have used has only worked once. That one time I got an exotic engram was a special, and I got a No Land Beyond from that. Nothing else. I even try stacking them, with no result.

                      • I'd like to see them get rid of 3oC too but heavily increase the legendary drops, foremost in Crucible and strikes. As of now it's harder, much much harder, to get a Luna than any exotic item.
