Why Halo 5 isn't Halo.

[b]If the fundamental rules of baseball or soccer (any sport) were changed, millions of people would be outraged. Some people play sports for a living, some do it as a hobby, but either way, if they found out that the game was now played a different way to modernize it and accommodate a different audience, people would be outraged. This is why tens of thousands of fans have stopped playing Halo 5 (this happened with Halo 4 also).[/b] When Halo became an international hit with CE, Bungie made the decision to keep sprint and other (then) popular game mechanics out of Halo 2 to please returning fans. They must have done something right here since Halo continued to be the top selling XBOX title throughout Halo 3 and Reach. The classic games (not saying Reach was a classic but this fact applies with Reach as well) had higher player counts than Halo 4 did only a few months after Halo 4s release. [b]When a formula is so acclaimed, it shouldn't be fixed. Halo needs to go back to its roots for it to become relevant again. Call of Duty, Fallout, and all of these other popular franchises are staying close enough to their roots so that when fans -who haven't played for 5+ years- buy the newest game, they can immediately play to a similar caliber as they used to.[/b] In future posts I will go into the terrible art style, inexcusable spartan models which look like toy action figures, poor campaign design, lazy writing, and of course, more chances that need to be made about gameplay. One of my old buddies, Phil, was a Halo 2 pro player and he said that once he saw the gameplay for Reach he knew the franchise had strayed to far from its roots. I touched base with him recently regarding the competitive appeal of Halo 5. He hasn't played Halo in years, but he said the game looked like Call of Duty with longer kill times which would probably often seem like a big game of cat and mouse, which to me, it does. I respect that most of you love Halo 5, I really do, and I don't think it is a bad game per se, but its not a true Halo game. The new Porsche 911 is probably a great car, but thousands of 911 fans are up in arms because it is turbocharged. The value of older 911's (not necessarily classics) are going up because the experience of naturally aspirated 911's is so revered. This is just another analogy, but I hope some of you understand why the fundamental gameplay of Halo is so important to a lot of people.[/quote] I just noticed this on Waypoint. The population is small, yes, but you can still find full games in most playlists.       • It's not that Halo 5 isn't Halo; but it's by the Halo we knew and loved. 343 seems to be taking Halo into a new age. The "343" age I guess. The art concepts, stories, even weapons, characters, and enemies feel so much different compared to Bungie. Bungie Halo players know the terrifying Flood. 343 replaced them with the Forerunner Prometheans. There not bad, but I'd gladly take Flood again. 343's art concept seems a bit more childlike. The armor sets, enemies, even their ads. Which are fantastic, but so much different compared to Bungie's. So it's not that Halo isn't bad, or "Halo" anymore. It's just not the way we remember it. I personally like Halo 5, but dear god the stories are garbage. Or at least the way they presented it.

          • I wouldnt try posting this here You will be attacked by a bunch of loser noob Halo 5 fans. Halo Reach, 4 and 5 suck balls plain and simple. Halo 2 and 3 I could play all day long. Halo 4 and 5 lasted me a couple days.

            • Fallout was an isometric RPG, fallout 4 is a FPS RPG, so umm yeah "didn't stray from roots" is a bit of a stretch. By a bit I mean not even close to the same thing

                  • Fundamental rules of Halo: -Even Starts -Even teams -Arena style gameplay -Balanced gameplay Three Halo games have broken these rules. Halo 5, is not one of them. [spoiler]Reach, Wars, 4[/spoiler] I do wonder when people will realize that Halo CE and Halo 2 were vastly different from one another. The quintessential purists who are too stupid to realize how wrong they are... However, you people can keep your deluded ideas, and forget that without change the games would become sterile. You can bitch, you can whine, you can complain because nostalgia blinds you. My only request is that you leave Halo community. We have enough pompous, over the top drama-queens as is. Your departure would aid us to alleviate that problem.

                      • Tbh mate I stopped at Reach but then over time I learned to adapt and love it as its own amazing entry into the halo series, then halo 4 came out and I was hyped for it but honestly that was my stop. Halo 4 basically delivered an abomination of a campaign and multiplayer I honestly felt like I was doing a chore when I did the campaign tbh overall 343i sucked hard at it but even tho I haven't played halo 5 because I stopped after 4 I can agree that for a fame itself halo 5 has good mp. Something Bungie has sucked at with Destiny and believe me I'm really good at crucible well...was I do tplay destiny anymore but the constant nerf got to me. All in all 343 was given an already developed and complex franchise and they are trying to improve it but fail at it, in terms of campaign Bungie always had it the best, I'd give 343 a bad rep for campaign but meh who cares, you also have to realise 343 is focusing on forerunners more so its honestly gonna feel different. I personally don't like the covenant designs like the trolls(grunts) or elites that are half naked now or the dinosaurs(jackals) and also the ugly af armour but hey Bungie set a high bar with Halo Reach designs u can't blame em. All in all I don't blame 343, they're just trying to put a new coat of paint on the halo franchise which honestly isn't working.

                      • The analogy of changing the rules of soccer is all wrong. It's not changing the rules of soccer. Its making a soccer 2.0 with different rules. Regular soccer's rules are still valid with regular soccer. Halo 1 is still halo 1. The didnt go in and force armor abilities into halo 1. The analogy should be more like kickball and baseball. Two similar games with slightly different rules.

                      • As long as the game is officially called Halo 5, then it's a Halo game. Doesn't matter whether or not you think it fits with the rest of the series, 343i holds the rights to the franchise.
