I'm starting to believe the theory that he is alive. His Grimoire in Mysteries tells that he is locked in some prison, transmitting messages every time a window opens. Not a skeleton. However with the Vault, time isn't strictly a linear progression of cause to effect anymore. It's more a wibbly wobbly ball of timey wimey......stuff.

I like to think that in the here and now he is dead that is his body. However he is still alive in the not too distant future and we will run into him again. he is Scaroth from City of Death. Just not a dick head.
