Wont even bother with Black Spindle

First, I want to congratulate anyone who got the weapon. I don't know what strategy you did to earn it but the mission for me is just to hard. Its easy enough to get to the boss with 7 minutes to kill him (I got to him in 8 one run). Even after killing the boss, there never seems to be enough time to clear the adds from the room. Even if I kill the boss (who is stupidly hard to kill thanks to his constant tossing of blinding light and endless minions) I still lose the mission because I cant kill the 20 knights and centurions with shields left over. I just wasted 3 hours of my life working for something I wont get because of stupid broken mission, and I'm not asking for a free hand out. I like a challenge, but this is less of a challenge and more of a headache. My fireteam had one guy who had done the mission, we killed all the blights and then killed the boss with 1 minute, but still could get kill all the adds in time. I'm never playing this mission again, just looking at the walls of the ketch and the sounds of that blinding ability have started to make me puke whenever I think about them. What's worst is I just spent 3 hours doing something that was not fun. The Hard Raids are fun, Nightfall's are fun, Crucible is still frustrating but still enjoyable at times but this mission is terrible by design and unenjoyable. I wont be playing this mission again, in fact I'm taking a month break from Destiny. * I noticed that Light Level doesn't even matter. My fireteam had 300+ light and still got our asses handed to us by 240 light adds. Thats a dumb and broken system that doesn't make sense for a game trying to be an MMO.

    • Yeah it's a tough mission, was trying it last night, failed, But my team wasn't clearing adds fast enough. Like either kill the adds or put some dps on the boss. Was pissing me off, especially since we had to start the whole mission over again. Next time hopefully... I get a better team. Killing the adds after the boss was the bitch that killed us=(

      • Our fireteam was beating our heads against this with not a lot of luck for a few runs, then we tried where everybody put on swords. Upon entering the room, and every time the boss summons adds, we used swords and supers to clear the room in about 15 seconds. After that you get a decent amount of time to beat on the boss before he summons again. Using this method it was almost comically easier than our previous attempts.

      • I think it's about staying alive and managing the blights. I imagine with 2 people rocking machine guns (one solar, one arc) for adds and high impact fusion rifles for the blights, while one person with rockets and a high impact sniper lays DPS on the boss, after each round of blights and adds, focus primaries of the add control on boss? I'm not sure, but I'm definitely giving it another shot the next time around

        • Last week I did it first try with a 292 Titan running flaming hammer, and two 297 Hunters, one used black hole shadowshot, I used Celestial Nighthawk on my GG. We had zero strategy besides you shoot bow, then I'll shoot GG, we got to the boss fight fairly late, but the critical Nighthawk GG does so much damage we were able to finish it in time (15 sec left). This week I went with 3 Titans levels 298, 299, and 301 - it took us 3 tries. We finally beat it when our 301 used HoS instead of 3 bubbles - the other two used blessings. (12 sec remaining) Also Yesterday I helped my brother do it - we had a 304 warlock, 303 hunter, and 300 titan. First try we failed to clear ads in time after killing the boss - didn't use much strategy. Second try we timed everything out and finished with over two minutes left! Here was our strategy at the boss fight (first of all we got there very fast): Titan goes out the right door and drops a blessings bubble so the whole bubble was down the stairs. I used my Shadowshot on boss. Titan and I walk onto the stairs and used snipers on the boss while warlock used shotgun to keep the ads from the left away from us - he took out the spawn orb right there (you'll see it). After the bubble ran out, we retreated to the first area for cover, then Warlock used Lightning super to kill ads to the right. Titan picks up bubbles, then repeat. I ended up using a special ammo synth for more sniper shots (it's hard to get ever shot to hit while blind, just keep firing anyway). After doing this 3 times the boss was dead, then we all went off on the ads with our exotic swords - we died a few times, but still cleared them quickly. TL;DR: I found it easiest with a Shadowshot on the boss, but make sure you're getting a lot of damage his way while it's active - Nighthawk GG is great for that. Snipers or rockets work too. But one person should always be in charge of ads while the other two DPS.

        • I went through several teams, teams of 2 300s and me at 292 and people like that and then there was one team I was with an hour (total waste) because the couldn't even make it past the doors! Then the last team I was with was 295 and 298 and we did it on our first try, for some reason everything went perfectly smooth I was using Dark Drinker to clear adds and we cleared the boss room of ads in about 35 seconds then hammered the boss cleared ads again then boom we K0 the boss I was shocked but very happy

          • It's very hard but possible. I just got this week after spending a few hours. The main thing is u gotta have a good dps team. You need to clear blights as soon as they spawn while the other 2 dps the boss. Once you've killed the boss make sure one of you goes round and clears the blights while the other 2 clear adds. Hope that helps man

          • Last week it was really rough until we figured out, just kill the adds as soon as they spawn. Yesterday we did it with 3 minutes to spare. Just kill the adds, then when it is clear pop a bubble or nightstalker and DPS.

            • I fully agree, I mean at the very least they could be honest about it and when you get into that area change the recommended light level on the adds from 240 (which it clearly is not) to the 300 it should be. It's ridiculous. Last week I tried with some friends and we were far too low on light at an average 260 and we could get to the boss and even get some decent damage into him but our timer ran out half way into his health, and that was the boss alone. Last night we tried again with an average light of 290 + and we still couldn't do it, we almost had the boss down but we suffered at the hands of the shielded adds that were far more difficult than the suggested 240. normally, against a 240 light taken captain with a flame shield I can clear him out with my invective in one or 2 shots, depending on how blind I am by the time I can get into range and how much I actually hit him, but the ones in this challenge I can pop them clearly execution style in the head and they still take the full load of shells and laugh it off, the taken wizards with the void shields aren't fun either. Back to the point at hand I enjoy a good challenge once in a while, as I'm sure many people do. But when fire teams all over the world are wasting more time struggling with a ten minute mission that they are supposedly well above the recommended level for, than they would with any raid, there's definitely a problem.

              • My fire team struggled too, definitely a tough fight, and frustrating. A few things that helped us in case it comes up again for you, stick near the back as much as possible, being close so you can get revives saves a lot of time in the boss. Don't bother with blights till you kill the boss, he is priority one, enemies will continue to respawn till he is dead. We found the exotic sword range attack very effective, as were rockets as you didn't need line of sight for long to get the damage, machine guns have higher dps but its unlikely you will be able to make use of it. A couple of storm caller supers to clear the immediate mobs, generating orbs for a nightstalker to tether him helps, and gives you some space to damage him. We didn't have a Titan to help, but if you do far and away the best strategy is to weapons of light near him and just sword the crap out of him. Out team comp was two storm callers and one nightstalker, we got it fourth try with 17 seconds spare only, although shortly after killing the boss one of our fire team was dropped, leaving us 2 remaining members to clear the rest of the.mobs, so we were lucky to have sufficient time. I would say don't give up, it may be a pain but constant iteration on your strategy will yield results, we got closer each time till our 4th attempt, just wait till it comes up again and give it another go, good luck!

              • My brother, friend of ours, and I blasted rockets at him, cleared out adds with stormcaller (breathing room), blasted him some more with primaries and secondaries and heavies if available, once boss went down with 45s left we went to town with stormcallers, and shotgun for me. We were all warlocks, if that matters.

              • Tips Here: Two Titans but one should do. - both with blessing of light Everyone with swords (exotic swords best) If you have a Hunter, use Nightstalker - use the grenade to make your teammates invisible. Stay in the room till Titans have their supers and the Hunter has his/her grenade(s). Hunter makes teammates invisible then Titans run out and pop bubbles around boss one at a time (to make as much time as possible). Everyone spams swords at boss. Rinse and repeat. If you all have exotics and two titans. It will only take two tries to kill the boss. If you get to the room with 7 minutes it should give you 3-4 mins to kill the ads. Just make sure you take out all the blights and bigger enemies first. Good luck.

You have to prioritize to complete. 1. Destroy blights first. These spawn more add and make it more difficult. 2. Destroy ads. This will make clean up at the end faster. 3. Pick at the boss between the wave of ads and blight.

Showin mad love to all the new spindle owners. I was able to get my 1k yard up to 310. Also rngeesus blessed me with the ship. Look forward to this daily rotation more than iron banner week. What we did was had a defender titan and two self res warlocks to start. Immediately when entering the room we'd all jump into the platform and the titan would pop a weapons of light bubble right at the feet of the boss. He'd then back up and shotgun while us two warlocks started swording the boss like crazy (titan dies bubble is gone so they need to do their best to stay alive). The boss would eventually kill us warlocks that were close with stomps and we'd pop our self res, get the weapons of light buff and start swording again. When we'd all die, the boss would only have a sliver of health left. . Once we did that, we'd all switch subclasses while dead (two storm caller and a sunbreaker-also heavies to machine guns) and immediately killed the boss. Blights would be next with two leading the way with their supers killing as many adds as possible with the other getting the blights. You'll eventually die again, but it should just be adds that you can take out. That's how we got it.
