Theory: Year two players will not get the exotic sword...
That step where you have to grind for hours for relic iron or whatever you need for your sword quest, I have a theory thats where they will give up. They dont remember the days back in year one before you could just buy all materials...you had to grind for them. Year one vets remember the grind for relic, helium, spinmetal and sprit bloom. I think they will give up because their not used to it, their used to being able to buy it. Just a thought I had during the grind.
Edit: Just a tip: Dont do a void sword on a hunter. The 500 kills you have to get with void abilities is insane. The bow kills only count if you kill them with the arrow and the grenades are ok'ish and melees are not void. Pretty much had to get 500 grenade kills... :/
Edit: Damn...all I did was have a thought while doing the grind and thought I would come here to express my theory. I didn't know you bastereds world run my phone battery dead, cause it vibrates every 2 seconds for a new notification...lol
Edit: And you think the horror ends there....o no. Next Wednesday, I think you have to do a light lvl 300 strike.

year one guy here. idk what the hell i am doing wrong but i have so much relic iron from going around and picking up damn relic iron from all over mars and i have yet to complete the first part. my theory is do i need a ghost that can find relic or do i have to just get lucky. any suggestions? ps the void ability kills for the hunter is not hard at all just go to mission seige of the warmind use both your grenades on the hordes of thrall that spawn rinse and repeat you can get up to 6% up everytime if done correctly. also make sure your have the tether effect that explodes enemies when you kill one it works trust me..

Edit: For anyone thinking that chest give you a chance at the legendary item needed for the quest...your wrong. It does not drop in chest. If im wrong, prove me with a video. I also hear some people are just buying the stuff at the vanguard for LMs. I cannot confirm or deny this. Someone post a video if you can.

If you run court of oryx with a group orbs drop like crazy so you can use the bow all the time

Void Sword + Hunter does suck but if you have the Shadowshot ability that an enemy killed while tied explodes those explosions I believe count. Then if you run the mission where Omnigul is breaking into rasputin you use the vortex grenade and shadowshot on the thrall then wipe. Course you will still have to do it about 20 times (not actually but it could take that long).

I just equipped the relic iron ghost and wad grinding on Mars before the patch. Hopefully all those chests still come up

I went to buy some spinmetal today from vanguard quartermaster, then realised they wanted legendary marks for them. Those things are far too precious! I'll just go on an old fashioned grind around cosmodrome! Be like old times. I never run out of relic iron, love mars. Used to go round mars just for fun.

Come on. Compared to some quests in WoW this "grind" is nothing. Getting those 10 material and 500 ability kills is a walk in the park.

You can't buy materials now LOL. I went down for some spinmetal and then looked at those 10 precious legendary marks that were to be the new "limitless" system with no cap and realized why our ghosts show us where the mats are now. We are all back to square one in the game like it or not. Most of us not.

I hate grinding for relic iron the most, spin metal, spirit bloom, helium filament, hell even worm spore is better than that. It is so hard to see them but at least with keen scout it marks them or with a ghost it gives a waypoint

Siege of the Warmind, Vortex Grenade and Poison Smoke was quite quick, some of the kills where actually done while farming the relic iron rng drop.

Im a hunter did void it wasnt as hard as youd think and melee grenades count so does shadowshit as long as you use a grenade to kill one with blood bound on

I am a hunter and I did the void kills this way: Load up the Dark Beyond Mission on the Moon set to high difficulty. Progress to the "We've woken the Hive!" point and with the bow/void wall grenade ability, back up to where the two rocks choke point the oncoming thralls. Toss a void wall grenade in that choke point to make a line for the thrall to run though, you will get about 5 - 7 kills depending on the placement. Then, with your super (set to 3 shots if possible), take down some more thrall. Rinse and repeat. Only took me about an hour to complete. Hope that helps

I did the mars relics, finally found a ****ing relic iron spotter ghost AFTER I was up to nine crystals on my second day of farming, had ****ing 300+ relic iron by then. Now the void ability using my hunter is easy. it's just as I play with the nightstalker while farming enemies in the dreadnaught. I'm not super rushed.

Vortex grenade with Lucky Raspberry on The Dark Beyond mission seems like it would help speed things up for the void kills.

Got my exotic sword yeterday. It took me 2 full hours on the moon patrol just to get that part done.
