So, what has several months of trials shown us?
1. Players will gravitate towards the easiest kills.
2. Players equate wins/kills with skill.
3. Players will abandon their personal preferences and/or multiplayer ethics for rewards.
Given the above facts, the toxicity of Trials will continue despite rebalancing of weapons, because players will gravitate towards the lowest common denominator (Thorn in this meta), in order to receive rewards in trials, because they are being met by glitchers, cheaters, and frustration.
My solution: rework trials, if you can prove teams can consistently do 9 wins, no boons, no glitches, then it's not needed, but otherwise, your unforgiving requirements will continue to encourage cheaters. 9 wins, no losses, is simply a bad reward point, and this is evidenced by the teams that regularly win, abusing glitches and detracting from the larger game just to complete a card.
1000 passage coins, only earnable in trials under this system, would be cashed in for 1 Lighthouse trip. Devalue the rewards cheaters receive by giving them out to normal players during the course of normal play, instead of expecting normal players to stoop to cheating and glitching to win in the meta Trials has created. Will there still be diehards? Of course, 9-0 will still be an option, but those who don't wish to participate in the current or future meta won't have to, because a secondary path to the lighthouse will be available to them.
This thread is not for people who are happy with Trials, this is a thread for ideas on how the Trials experience can be improved to include more variety and more of the player base.
Edit: Personal insults prove my point, you're infected by Trials toxicity.
Edit 2: The power of the truth, your upvotes have overwhelmed the haters who are still trolling this thread, thanks, and spread the word.
Edit 3: Love the kids who can't read but somehow still post, especially people who don't read point #2 and say "Your k/d isn't as good as mine."
Edit 4: Trending, those who farm trials are getting very angry.
Edit 5: Holy SCHNIKIES 450 REPLIES? TY for your support! Haters and +1s alike, ty!
Edit 6: 600 and still climbing, front page here we come.
Edit 7: 1000 replies, wow, and btw, yes, I have been to the Lighthouse, check my Warlock. Didn't need a high k/d like you kids seem to get such huge boners over, didn't need to abuse Thorn, guess you kids are just bad at this game and trying to force everyone else to play like you.
A quote from a person who did many wrongs: "Is it meaningless to apologize?""
My reply, and the only reply, "Never."

17 RisposteModificato da Touch It: 9/7/2015 5:56:19 AMHaven't played trials in a while because it's too easy. I used to and still can go flawless with a fresh team I haven't played with before. Without cheating. Stop using being bad as an excuse to get things changed. Trials is fine the way is it. It rewards you along the way to getting those 9 wins. And the only cool thing that you get from going flawless is an exotic shaded that's not so exotic because of how many people have it, and a shitty gun with a burn, which makes no sense. A burn on a crucible weapon? Is that what you're crying about? The only gun worth a damn from trials is the messenger. Which you can still obtain without going flawless. It just won't have that useless burn. Stop your bitching. P.s. Using passage coins to buy your way to the lighthouse is soooo dumb. Do you seriously expect to just be handed everything you want? You would literally just lose trials games on purpose since that rewards you passage coins for some reason and grind it out that way. Just get better chump. Do you expect to be able to just spend 1000 motes of light and magically get rewards from Atheon? Trials is meant to be difficult. And I promise you that these cheaters everyone cries about aren't actually cheating. And aren't actually lag switching. They just have shit connection which I will admit is a huge problem in destiny.

5 Risposte
I'm here to make a public service announcement. SooperSmurf has finally made it to the lighthouse! (Just in case he hasn't personally messaged you about it like he did with me) "No way? This garbage kid with a 0.5 KD in trials made it? How so?!" How so you ask? If you look at his recent game stats you can see he has a 0.38 KD in his last 5 games. "But how could you go flawless with that kind of KD?" I was confused too! But then I dove a little deeper in order to figure this nonsense out. In his most recent game his teammate got 15 kills. How many did SooperSmurf get? Take a guess. Well if your answer was ZERO.. You were correct. Get carried SooperSmurf. Money well spent I suppose
Thanks for the PSA @Pizza and chill This needs to be seen.

2 RisposteModificato da Azreal80: 9/8/2015 4:57:34 PMThey put great rewards behind content and what did players do ?? the same thing they did in all the other content with rewards They used the best OP weapons (Gally, thorn, blink shotgun, final round, proximity rockets) to quickly get 9-0 just like they beat Crota in PvE to get best gear. They did the same thing in trails as they did in Crota. Lag switching to get best rewards. Players got pretty competitive to get those trials guns and it wasn't fun for everyone. so heres my feedback and crazy suggestion to help trials going forward Win 9 matches to go to the lighthouse and get rewards Same reward package at reef now here's the catch. It's 9- and whatever losses it takes. You can lose as many rounds as it takes until you get 9 wins. That's it. It allows everyone to eventually have a chance to get rewards. And enjoy playing a game. Because that's what this is..... A video game !! Now I'm sure the ultra competitive MLG rewards snowflakes will say "oh now it's just a participation prize and that's stupid". It's a game. It's supposed to be fun. Some teams will go fast 9-0 and others will go 9-25 and it will take half the day ....but that's no different then the raid or skolas. It might take awhile to get there. Sometimes it takes awhile to beat a raid. If MLG snowflakes want something special Bungie can give players that go 9-0 a special snowflake exotic trials emblem or cosmetic shader . That's it. Cosmetic only !!!. Just my thoughts. Maybe it would help all players. And it would boost Bungies times players played their game. It would boost number of players playing trials. IMO. Just an idea.

The fact that anyone equates success in crucible with skill is a joke with the conditions we all have to play under
-
Bump. But the answer is matchmaking. Throw complete randoms together then everyone has a chance and a weekend player has a chance to be paired with die hard pvp players making it worth the effort to participate.

Great idea!!!

13 RisposteWhen everyone is special, no one will be. Whether it be exceptional team work, exceptionally skilled play. Superior weaponry, or the bad route of having knowledge of controlling networks..people did whatever it took to win. No one said Osiris was a good or nice guy. You go into trials. You play to win whatever the cost. Everyone has their own code of honor. It's disrespectful when you don't use the very best you have against your opponent. There's not much more of a diss than that in a game of virtual life and death. But that's just me.

Love getting error codes on a flawless run thanks bungie now it's 2 v 3 and I'm listening in

2 RisposteJust because you can't get to the Lighthouse doesn't mean Trials needs to be changed.

Another thing they should add, and it will suck for people who aren't intentionally lag switching but, remove people with red bar in trials from the game world. The matchmaking needs to be true "matchmaking". Matchmake us with an EQUAL team. I like a constant challenge when playing trials, but do not like getting wrecked by people who have gotten flawless 10 times over, but I also don't like wrecking a team who are new to the game and aren't very good at pvp combat. My only complaint with Bungie is this issue and the fact that they should lower the expansion cost. Bungie please take these things into account when you bring trials back, I can't tell you how many times we played against the same teams as well. Something that was promised "would not happen".

28 RisposteModificato da PuppyPulverizer: 9/6/2015 1:48:03 PMMost people can't bring themselves to have self respect. I force it on those I play with. No hand cannons. No blink. No hidden hand. No self res. No bitch ways out. It's sad that I have to play with so few people because most are just pieces of shit who use a blade dancer with Thorn or last word. Me and my two Titan buddies can go flawless on all three characters whenever we want no problem. People need to accept that if they need to use thorn and blink to go flawless then they don't deserve to go

Are you serious man? My god some people take games too seriously. Must be your life.

2 RisposteModificato da WharfRat95: 9/7/2015 6:53:51 PM82 total kills across 3 characters and your talking about ToO? Maybe if you had some games in ToO under your belt then I'd take you seriously but the fact that your pve player talking about a pvp mode is the exact reason why guns have been getting nerfed since day 1.

14 RisposteRight diagnosis.....wrong cure. What is "wrong" with Trials is HUMAN NATURE....and the fact that it is currently a winner-take-all event with NO allowing for differently levels of skill. As one poster put it brillianly a few months ago, 'The Best Feed on the Rest, and the Rest get pissed". So as a result----since desirable rewards are in play----you get cheaters, and people doing everything they possibly can to either stay competitive....or gain an edge. As I said to the guy below, hamsters run on exercise wheels because they have in an instinctive drive to run. They enjoy running, and the wheel gives them a chance to do so. Humans have an instinctive desire to compete with one another for resources and status. You, Bungie, nor anyone else is going to PROGRAM that survival mechanism out of people. Evolution is going to have to do that. But you don't deal with the toxicity that can develop around competition by (effectively) eliminating the competition. (Your 1000 passage coins idea is basically a Trials "participation trophy".) You do it by setting LIMITS around that toxicity.....and making the competition FAIRER.. For example. Golf clubs don't hold their club championships by throwing EVERYONE into a single tournament...and letting the scratch players and low handicapers feed mercilessly on weaker players. NO. What they do is break up the tournament into several "flights" based on skill level (handicap), then hold individual championships for those flights. Of course the greatest rewards and the most prestige comes from winning the "top flight". THAT"S how you fix the toxicity around Trials. Instead of a no-holds-barred shark tank where weekend players are expected to compete with try-hards and professional streamers who do nothing but play games all day.... You turn Trials into a FLIGHTED, Skill-based competition....where each flight has its own REWARD STREAM. With---of course----the best rewards being easily recognizable, and reserved for the winners of the top flight. Then WITHIN any given flight....you play winner take all...and flawless goes tot he Lighthouse...and gets the best gear reserved for THEIR flight. ...and you win the right to compete in the next higher flight. That way everyone wins. Lesser players have a reason to show up, and get a chance to experience some success. Instead of just being cannon fodder for better players. They also have a reason to STAY in the competition, and work towards getting better. Instead of people selling "chances to go flawless" and hopping around to try to find the "perfect team"....you give teams a reason to stay together, and work to get better. Lastly, instead of pub-stomping their way to the best rewards, you force better players to have to face a more CONSISTENT level of challenge. Because they are always playing people of their own skill level. So a trip to the Lighthouse in the top flight because a TRUE badge of honor. Because anyone who as done that----and you make those rewards EASILY identifiable----knows that they have beat the best-of-the-best this game has to offer. Which----in my experience----is what any TRUE competitor wants. To test others, and to be tested to his or her own limit.

1 RispondiLet's say 5% of players love trials now.. 95% want a change..who do you think bungie will cater to? My bet is the 95% because money talks . Bungie wants people to enjoy the game, not be stressed out because a few tryhards think they own a playlist. At the end of the day there is more money in catering to the 95% then the 5%. Just saying.

15 RisposteModificato da ValiantBlu: 9/7/2015 7:07:02 AM9-0 is definitely asking too much from the average player but the only rewards you get from the lighthouse that you can't get from anywhere else are adept primaries And they did offer an alternative, kill Skolas to get the mk II primaries from HoW Also it's not like it counts towards your moments of triumph to get a flawless card, there's not even a trophy Now I know some people want every gun, and the adepts are great guns However, the whole reason trials is so much fun for those who can go flawless is the rewards you get, for some this is easy, for most it's difficult, regardless though it's nice to finally have skill based rewards instead of pure RNG (and this isn't just the lighthouse) The easier it is to go to the lighthouse, the more the guns lose their value Now your suggestion was 1000 passage coins that can only be obtained by playing trials, well that's fine but 3 weeks after HoW launched I think I gained about 75 coins, that's not a lot, and true they didn't drop when you lost a trials match but that's only -1 source, and that's still not a lot I don't play a lot of crucible so I think I'm only sitting on about 120 right now but I can't imagine I would ever have gotten to 1000 under those conditions unless I played religiously, in which case I'd probably be good enough to go 9-0 consistently If you only got coins from trials it would take from 200 to 334 matches to get to the lighthouse (assuming losses always give 3 and wins always give 5) that's a lot of trials, and I know I'd be buying boons because -blam!- that noise I'm not playing 200+ matches so each one = a loss Unless you meant to say 100, in which case that'd be too low, the game would be rewarding you with some of the best gear for participating in 20-34 matches, completely devalues the gear, and I think gamers have seen enough of this "No Idiot Left Behind" noise appearing in every game, this one especially And if this were the case people would just sit around afk until they got their ticket to Mercury And honestly, if it was 1000 coins people would probably do the same And then you'd have people trying to do well playing people literally reading a book, that's not fun Instead I think they should have made 9-0 more attainable for example, if you win a match 5-0 you have a loss removed from your card, if you don't have any losses it counts as two wins I don't know Something to keep people from going back to the reef when their card reads 6-1, like there's still a chance

The trials is like the big hardcore PVP area. That's where people use the best weapons, classes, and best chances to win. Think about it. If there was a tournament, with a good reward, and you want to enter: You would likely want the best chances to win. I think that's basically the ToO. Everyone wants those flawless rewards. So they're using every overpowered weapon, the things they're the most skilled with, and the best things they have and can use, to increase their chances of winning those flawless rewards. Or they just want to get the flawless emblem for bragging rights. The weapons are a little overrated. The summoner would be a great long term investment for PVP.

11 RisposteModificato da pacificdune: 9/6/2015 8:47:59 PMOP has played trials for less that 3 hours and got his ass handed to him. His trials KD is 0.37 and win percentage is 29%. Interestingly, his playing partners were actually decent, and both had been to the lighthouse, but they could not carry him. I originally tried to give him good advice and to practice and improve as i did, but he blames how bad he is on people glitching (using hand canons), etc... He will not take your advice, is in denial about needing to improve, and indignant about the fact that he did not do well. He apparently is a good left for dead player, and that should make him good at destiny trials too. Not worth replying. I summarized everything here so just give this post a like! He will likely respond calling my arguments a "logical fallacy" and calling me names like "salty" which I'm certainly not... Quite the opposite in fact, but I'm done wasting my time here.

I know it's a bold move and a lot of work, but I'm going to make a thread suggesting Bungie completely remake a gamemode like this, most likely implemented a few days after TTK drops. I'll put in a link when it's done if you want.

1 RispondiI dont agree with everything but ive been flawless a few times. My KD isnt the greatest because i try to help my friends go flawless. I had a 1.17 or something earlier. Just tried with some of my friends who wanted some gear before its gone. I still think trials is extremely toxic. Theres should be a alternate way to get the rewards. You have to be very good to get rewards. If you can 9-0 then great, you got easy, quick, free rewards. For those who cant? Something, somehow. 7-1 is hard to get. You have to beat 7 trials. And only lose 1. Literally, and mathematically it is impossible for that to be easy as 6/7 of the teams must lose. So for every 1 that gets to the lighthouse, 6 dont. Its not pvp, you can get (sort of) carried through skolas or helped by a tean for anything and its possible. This? It can be literally impossible. People call others special snowflakes and entitled but when it comes to flawless they become hypocrites? Im not saying it has to be cheap or easy to get the rewards. And my personal itch with trials is snipers. They take some amount of skill but really it doesnt matter. I get quickscoped constantly. Last round is rarely a problem its just that whole teams can rush with snipers (not no land beyond) and quickscope. Earlier some guy switched weapons quickscoped and switch back in like 2 seconds when i got revived. Or just the sheer amount of snipers in general. Shotguns dont even piss me off anymore. I can deal with thorn. Doesnt seem that strong to me. Last word.. Hate it. But whatever. I think snipers need a brief moment of less accuracy after you aim down the sight.

I like your idea on having different avenues to get to the lighthouse. For me I just don't like the idea of sweating out 9 wins to get rewards. I simply don't like the intensity level brought on by that.
