TAKEN KING RUINS GAME FOR CORE PLAYERS
Just want to start by saying that never has a game had such an impact on my 34 years of life as Destiny has. It literally saved my life. After returning from my second tour of Iraq I had become a shell of whom I once was and trying to adapt to every thing while being disabled, I fell into a deep dark depression. My doctor suggested finding a hobby and since being able to leave the house on my own I was limited. Then I bought an Xbox and Destiny and soon I started looking forward to waking up every day and also made some good friends. Sorry for long back story but I just want to emphasize what the game does for me as well as many others in its own way. I can't help but feel that my loyalty and the loyalty of its core community is not being reciprocated and completely ignored in favor of rolling the dice on the hope for fresh customers. I've accepted the new leveling system, I've even come to terms with complete newbie's can immediately compete with what was once higher level content. The one thing I just have a hard time getting used to is all the legendary gear not continuing on with us right after taking a year get every thing finally upgraded. You guys are also very vague in recent interviews and end with confusion and more questions. It's very frustrating having all we have known for a year good and bad and seemingly till recently only getting better just to be tossed out of the window. Here are some of my concerns and comments as follows.
1: Didn't bungie receive a lot of backlash for not having vog gear upgrade with Dark Below? Then to be fixed in HOW, only to just all be tossed again?
2: Please don't tell us how Destiny isn't an MMO, then pull the legendary gear out from us and say well it has mmo qualities.
3: Those that are going to comment, no I didn't expect fatebringer to last ten years, but at least more than a year. Hell crota gear isn't 10 months let alone 10 years.
4: Isn't essentially making last year obsolete going against what has constantly been repeated, that all the changes are to make a better experience for players? The only works for new players.
5: If new guns are so abundant and so much better wouldn't we naturally gravitate away from the old ones?
6: Concerning armor wouldn't keeping legendary gear only allow for even greater options for players to use?
7: Please please clarify the exotic upgrade situation. If that gets messed up I'm giving up.
Finally I just want to add since the beginning it has only seemed like your more worried about getting new players than retaining your existing and growing from there. I Will buy TTK but if its just a cluster puck I won't be able to do it anymore. Hey at least I got the year one emblem right?

9 RisposteI'm sorry about your time in Iraq but I think the problem with this community is that most haven't played a big MMORPG before. I personally played World of Warcraft for 6 years and it's not like the gear followed up with us ever in those expansions nor did anyone expect it to. That's part of an MMO, the grind, the great joy at receiving your first TTK legendary or exotic weapon after it. If we just kept using the same gear for the rest of our destiny experience it would be boring and after we killed the boss once there wouldn't be a reason to play anymore.

1 RispondiI used to feel that way but the Taken King is so good I forgot all about the beloved ghorn and everything else pretty quick. Give it a try you won't regret it. I still use my beloved thorn every now and then on an easy patrol, but the new gear is sweet too

The thing that killed it for me was that they royally screwed over vanilla players (even those with just the previous two DLCs) by removing significant portions of the game from them unless they bought Taken King. You lose almost all PVP, all access to gear (any legendaries you get will be max level so you can't use, from story or otherwise), you can now only do default difficulty for any mission (why the hell would you removed tier difficulties that made stages useful to any level player?), you cannot do dailies or weeklies, they removed parts of previous DLC content and you cannot do any strikes except level 20. I played up until the Dark Below (I was sorely disappointed with the $20 price tag and almost no content). When Taken King was announced to be coming up I opened the game again and patched for the basic changes to see how it would go. I found out that I could not do almost anything I did before and TK wasn't even out yet. I was already level 32 when I logged in and I couldn't access anything except level 20 strikes, default levels at 1-15 and a couple raid stages that were now empty because they were outdated and reliant on large parties to do in the first place. They had a pretty crappy game to being with. The gameplay is great, very well tuned and the design is amazing to look at but it was shallow and short. A couple days worth of play and almost no story or characters at all for $60 and then two bare bone DLCs and the one DLC I thought might redeem the game (despite being behind a paywall of $100+ already) turns out to make the game even worse. Despite screwing over the old players they also had the audacity to release it in complicated and expensive methods in an attempt to soak more cash from players who actually managed to enjoy the game. Bungie just...they messed up so badly...repeatedly...

The game didn't get you through shit bro. You got yourself through it like we all got through the shit we went through. But that's life.All you got to decide is how much you are pissed of with budgie for the last years beta we have been doing for them. I think it's worth giving ttk a try and just accepting we got a bit screwed over...shit happens. If ttk is a disappointment and not worth the cash,then there is some other great titles coming out at the end of the year to enjoy.... Best of luck.

I understand your concern, but my advice is to Wait and see how the Game develops. It may not be as bad as you fear. It's much like the Military. When ever we get a new CO everything changes in some way, but something's stay the same.

Sure they have made some questionable decisions during year 1, but over all the game has steadily improved, and this dlc looks like a solid improvement. It'll be fun having every drop exciting again. You can still keep your old weapons for nostalgia, but moving forward requires getting stronger with new gear, and I'm ok with that. Anyways, I hope that you continue to enjoy destiny after the expansion, and I'm glad that video games can play such an important role in society.

1 RispondiFirst of all thank you for your service and God bless for your courage and sacrifice. I'm not sure yet what TTK will hold but from what I've seen so far I think it will actually improve the game. If this game ceases to help I hope you find another game that does, Fallout 4 looks pretty sweet maybe try that when it comes out.

We all know that Destiny in its vanilla form was somewhat botched (But I still played it every damn day lol), and fans asked for change, big change, and that's what we got, sure they can't please everyone, but if you're so passionate about this game, you won't knock it until you try it, friend. I mean whatever changes they make, there will be someone like you, or me, or someone else complaining about it, about how it's unfair or insulting to the older players, maybe one time we'll just kinda buckle down and see what they've got to offer, maybe we'll love it

2 RisposteI'm just going to keep my old weapons, I'm going to use them in the crucible. Sure it sucks they won't upgrade, but I'm over it. By the time I got all the VoG weapons, HoW has just come out. The new weapons have been lackluster, messenger is probably my favorite gun. With the nerfs going around I've had to change weapons anyway. Doesn't mean I like it, I just accept how it is and move on. Maybe Bungie will change their minds and maybe they wont.

1 RispondiAlso what about the legendary upgrade system how does that work? I mean from what I saw, was nothing but more grinding. Same with existing exotics I already have them make them max damaged and I have no problem leveling up the new perks, I mean if I want the new suros i have to re level it all up again that would make it the third damn time are you kidding me. In HoW it was just a shard I thought they were sticking with that, no more grinding to upgrade existing gear. Like you said more questions then answer.

I know how you feel in my own way, I'm chronically ill and had been for 3 years before I found games/destiny. It sucks I can't party and play sports like all my friends anymore but something like destiny can be good for the soul. Unfortunately you need to learn to accept how certain things work, especially with Bungies track record but it is a business and the shortest route to maximising profits will be taken in most cases. At first I wasn't pleased with the changes after grinding all IB and raid weapons but have since come to terms with it, the game has to progress. Let's hope they keep weapons locked to each year at least

You're going to find other good games, they're out there now. Don't you worry about getting caught up too much in Destiny. If you like it, awesome. But really, with the direction they are going, a lot of people don't. And you're going to find something to entertain yourself with no matter what, so you definitely have stuff to look forward to in the world of games.

1 RispondiBump. I hope this is not a sign of what will come in future updates too. If I have to do everything over again every 3 months I will fatigue quickly. It also seems to me that this is currently the biggest concern I hear from the community, but this massive outcry has not been noticed.

I think my old iron banner warlock chest piece looks way better than the new. The ascension made most us think we would have the option to keep our legendary end game gear and upgrade as we go. We were all looking forward to the new things TTK has to offer, it'd just seems unnecessary to leave behind all the old end game rewards. Wouldn't it be cool to break out the first IB chest piece in a couple years and have something rare, that only year one players had? It wouldn't give us an advantage in the game, just show we are veterans who acquired some cool shit along the way.

2 RisposteI wouldn't go as far as saying it ruins the game. I love both ideals. Yeah, I want my legacy gear to be badass. But I bought a game with a multi-year goal knowing that the best stuff would come later. I really wish there was a simple compromise. Like if every year-one player could ascend 1-3 weapons. Tough choices and I don't think it would break the formula of progression. When both sides of an argument have a valid point, the middle is where we need to focus energy.
