There's seems to be some confusion about what a conservative is and what it means. I'm here to help.
Edit: being a conservative isn't limited to one religion, race, gender, or sexual orientation. Conservatives come from all walks of life. It's not just about politics. It's about how you approach every day. Logic and reason. I'm not talking about politicians and what they do. They are corrupt. It's about regular folk. Like you and me.

5 RisposteIn your own words, briefly define a liberal and a conservative, if it interests you to do so. I only have a general idea of both (I'm seventeen) and would like to know more. I consider myself liberal, I think, but have thought very little about it.

There are those of you who say I don't fit the definition of a conservative because my viewpoint does not align with elected officials in Washington DC or the Republican party. Thank you. You have made a point that I have long held to be true. And that point is that the so called "conservatives" in Washington aren't conservatives. For some time now the Republican party has been a derailed train. It flew off the tracks and has barreling down the side of a cliff face. It has lost touch with conservative Americans who used to identify with the Republican party. It has become a political party the represents only those who are elected within its ranks. Conservatives like myself tend to vote republican because despite not being conservatives, they are at least not liberal progressives. Labels. Yes I know. Before voting, and I'm speaking for myself here, I look at each candidate and their voting record, their history in office, and their correspondence with the electorate. And 9 times out of 10 (not a real figure) I am not going to vote for a democrat. Back to the republicans. They have convinced average Americans that they represent conservative values, when in fact they do not. What conservative would support out of control runaway debt by passing temporary stop gap measures without actually putting forth a solution to prevent this from happening time and again? A conservative wouldn't. That's irresponsible and destructive. Fiscal responsibility is at the forefront of conservative values. I live on a budget. That doesn't mean I'm poor. It means I have a budget. I know what I make, what I owe, and once my bills are paid how much I will have. It's called being responsible with my money. The Republicans and Democrats continue to be irresponsible with OUR money. There are plenty of other examples. But, to be honest, I don't feel like writing it all down. The point is this, the Republican party has morphed into something other than conservative, but continue to be thought of as conservative. And that's the real issue.
