A lot of these teams are taking 4 to 5 hours to complete challenge mode Prison of Elders. One guy on GameFaq said it took him 10 hours (although hopefully that's an extreme case). That's roughly 4 to 5 hours without a checkpoint system to allow for an extended break.
Long periods of gaming without breaks are unhealthy and can have dangerous results. Repetitive Motion Syndrome is very real and very painful. Not to mention other problems like obesity, arthritis, headaches, etc.
I remember as a kid that game companies would get slammed if they included long form gameplay with no ability to stop and come back to it. Now no one bats an eye. I understand that a lot of people don't take their health seriously and will blow this off. And yes, I realize that you can sit in the airlock. But I've yet to be in a game where a group sat in the airlock more than just the time it takes to use the bathroom.
PoE needs a checkpoint system. Not having one promotes unhealthy gameplay. I'm not saying that every round needs a checkpoint but there needs to be a point where players can rest and come back to it.
EDIT - while not strictly on topic, Aceebro posted the following links down in the comments. I thought that they were important and relevant enough that everyone should take a look at them. They talk about Humane Design and the need for games to have viable exit points. Please take a look....

6 RisposteModificato da donovindawson111: 6/3/2015 4:24:24 PMThis is a scientific fact and Bungie needs to give us checkpoints before people start dying left and right. I was attempting POE and it took over 4 hours and I almost passed out. I called my doctor and he also agreed that the game developers made a colossal mistake and must implement some kind of checkpoint. That much continuous play is also very damaging to the eyes. My next phone call is going to be to my lawyer.....that is unless they fix it and give us what we want The doctor also noted that Xur should sell Ghorn to reduce our obsessive grinding

5 RisposteModificato da BoomerSooner51: 6/3/2015 8:10:41 PMA lot of people are commenting that it takes them 2 hours to complete. Uh, yeah, no thanks. I love video games, truly. But I have no desire to be locked into a single event for that -blam!-ing long. Especially if I can't save and come back later. I mean, shit. Even 90 minutes of just repeatedly pulling the trigger, throwing grenades, using the super, over and over and over and over. I applaud the stamina of anyone who routinely pulls this off. If it can't be done in 45 minutes at the most, I seriously doubt I will give it a go. If this type of gameplay is your cup of tea, than have at it, but that sounds truly awful to me. If I was ever locked in for 5 hours I would seriously question my sanity and consider putting down the controller for good. The rewards for that kind of effort better be exotic gear and blowjobs.

1 Rispondiyou posted on gamefaqs, this is what i posted. I'll add it here the issue that only the final round drops a reward is a big one, and if the previous rounds dropped something(see VoG...fatebringer only drops from templar is a good example of a good middle round reward), it would prevent some of the skolas CP passing. but that said...TC is dead on. PoE is unhealthy. getting to skolas might take 30 minutes but it might take 90. then Skolas is a beast unto himself, and of course servers could and have kicked whole teams at once, and then there is the fireteam leader who is very prone to kicking people if you arent getting it done which is unfair that the fireteam leader gets to bring in new people to help but the two others get the shaft. i honestly dont think 4-5 hours or even 10 hours is all that rare. People and Ive been in many groups that spent hours trying to beat atheon back in the day....Crota I recall speaking to many players who openly admitted in my team that they had spent 10 hours trying to kill crota, and i know i have spent all day trying to kill skolas before. this kind of behavior is not unusual and skolas makes it worse because NO -blam!-ING CHECKPOINT. someone brought up elitism....PoE has brought this out to the max. Titans can without fail get a Skolas CP. you need specific gear or you are kicked. look i get it CP passing hurt bungies feelings....but you know what? it worked, it ensured i could fail at the boss for an hour and take a break without wondering whether it would take 30 minutes or 3 hours to get back to the boss, even older NES games were more forgiving with passcodes or generally being beatable within 2 hours. this system encourages bad behavior like what i did....i kicked a guy after 5 hours, i took a break for another hour but i had to every 2 minutes move my guy around to not get kicked, brought in fresh legs and beat it in an hour. i sohuldve just been able to quit, but nope had to be an asshole because no checkpoints. Ill add one last thing I just thought of...lets not forget how long it took the first VoG team to complete it....what was it 14 hours or something absurd? Yes this is on us for sitting here and doing it, but bungie cannot be absolved of all blame here. in the case of VoG there was a CP system so its on the players, but know that is how the players react bungie shouldve considered a CP system even if their feelings got hurt because CP sharing. Destiny players are addicts, and bungie should at least provide breaks built into the system. the raids provide this, PoE does not. more to the point with the original VoG team it just highlights how long we will sit there and play and thats unhealthy and bungie shouldnt promote it by eliminating CPs

8 Risposteyou nay sayers are such -blam!-ing hypocrites its ridiculous you ignore EVERY LEGIT REASON FOR CHECKPOINTS in favor of "git gud". server errors douchebag fireteam leaders SERVER -blam!-ING ERRORS!!!!! life PUG aka LFG sites aka randoms and their skill levels you guys cannot overlook the fact that server errors kick teams, that douchebag fireteam leaders exist, and these things are not the minority. for those two reasons alone above all others CPs need to exist. but nope not one of you hypocrites has the balls to counter this argument BECAUSE YOU CANT because there is no counter, there is no excuse not to provide a failsafe for server errors.

8 RisposteAbsolutely. The absence of a checkpoint system, even if it's an entirely new system where players can't jump into the final round or trade checkpoints; promotes both a healthy body and a sound mind. Not to mention the array of other important lifetime issues that are tremendously more important than downing Skolas. Not all of us are basement dwellers. Most of us actually uphold normal routines, have children and spouses, people who come over, dinner scheduled, occupations, or anything that is more relevant than playing video games in our tightly whities 5 hours at a time. Bungie's lack of checkpoint approach is authoritative rather than accessible. As though a Destiny player's sole purpose in every waking moment is to serve RNGezus. Good games are fun, accessible, and fair.

Waiting for the stupid ass "just get better comments" hahah losers. Nobody wants to sit and play a game that is extremely strenuous. I should be able to sit down get 2 people and handle whatever lvl it is at least a little but you just get you ass str8 handed to you on a golden platter. There is no skill in "horde" PoE. That shit is pathetic like this game.

14 RisposteWhere the -blam!- is the balance for the enemies. I'm a level 34 and they're one shot killing me. Why the -blam!- am I blowing through 16 last word rounds to kill a red bar vandal with head shots. You clowns at Bungie are making it impossible for the new people and level 32/33 to even get a -blam!-ing light bulb to ascend one piece of -blam!-ing armor. Real smart. This game was supposed to help people escape the real world and instead you stress me and thousands of other people because you don't -blam!-ing listen to your community. For -blam!- sakes get the corn out of your ears and make shit easier to get and finish I'm tired of another nightfall giving me mother -blam!-ing last word again!!! I've had one since November. -blam!- me RNG is a -blam!-ing joke and the 1k hours ive spent playing has really shown me this game may be worth selling back. It's too addicting and shouldn't be. I'm sure people could agree to an extent that those who don't dwell in a cave and work 30-60 hours a week will attest that we shouldn't have to spend 4 hours doing a prison of elders. It's not fun. It's too much work.

2 RispostePoe was made just to drive you to PvP

1 RispondiJust for consistency's sake, POE needs checkpoints. There are checkpoints everywhere else in the game, but POE? Nope. It seems so bizarre and unintuitive to me as a player, especially considering there is nothing in the game to make it apparent to me that, "hey, you're going into the Prison of Elders. Here there be no checkpoints." I feel like there's a bigger problem here in Destiny's design. Instead of actually increasing the difficulty of the game in the challenging areas, the designers arbitrarily change the rules, altering mechanics like this with no rationale or notice to the player. It's weird, it's frustrating, and it harms the immersion that I'm going into this living, breathing world when I consistently have to think about elements of gameplay like this.

I group of people tried to sue square soft for an 18hr boss fight.

1 RispondiIf it takes you that long then you just suck. Has to be said

Ran the whole of 35 the other night in 1:15. I dont think it should take 4-5 hours, unless you're struggling a lot. So what it comes down to is your skill and teamwork in the prison. Obviously the lower those two things are the longer its gonna take to complete
-
2 RisposteYou just need to get better. Lvl 34 took my 34 and two other 33s maybe an hour. One person had gally and the others used snipers that weren't black hammer.

3 RisposteCheckpoints are a must for this game type. They take longer than a raid with how they use burns for enemies (as well teammates) that force you to essentially stand without cover (dismantling mines) while enemies overwhelm your position. The arc burn with the hive is of particular annoyance as every, single, enemy, can take you out in a matter of seconds when dismantling mines. This leads to countless restarts and hours gone. Put in checkpoints for God's sake Bungie.

An idea about PoE checkpoints. Get it trending if you agree https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/127590832/0/0

1 RispondiI disagree with this purely because of the fact that you're associating it with health concerns. I have to agree with most others when they say "personal responsibility" because it is a choice that you are making whether or not the reward is worth your health. This is the same as saying that if I'm playing and don't show up for work, I can blame bungie because I didn't want to give up my reward. If you want checkpoints, then just state that. But, when you start associating it with other things I think you hurt you argument.

2 RisposteBungie recently made some strikes easier to complete because they were taking too long to finish. Bungie understands this. The POE matches takes me 30-45 minutes. Sometimes longer with a bad group. The level 34 last week with Qodron was taking too long so they increased the jail breaker damage output with 32 this week. They get it. Long missions are bad and they do what they can to resolve the issue. Bungie will not make changes for just a few people. They look at the average which is something we will never see.

20 Rispostehey we're u the guy who sued McDonald's cause they're coffee didn't state that it was in fact "hot" ? All you need is motivation to get up and get active.. Self control.. And a finger to turn off your game console. But it's cool.. Don't be on the app for too long either, you may need to contact them about that too.. It can cause some serious damage to ur eyes
-
Not that I disagree with you as there should be check points BUT THEY will be abused.. as in all # of my toons would have the highest checkpoint possible before I ever completed one POE.. and I am sure I am not the only one that would pass checkpoints around.. its been done on all the raids since day 1
-
8 RisposteAll of them take less than an hour. Any longer and you should consider getting good.
-
1 RispondiI've done 28 and 32 and completed it multiple times no single time in PoE took more than an hour. The only one that did last over an hour was due to a player leaving and finding a new teammate.
