To All The Special Snowflakes...
I have a quick question for you. Why do you care if someone buys something that you already had. I can get that you might be a little annoyed, but shouldn't you be happy that they got it? I would like some real answers, I'm genuinely curious.

Especially when you get to the higher level content. There are many exotics yes, but there is a "best item" for every situation (and because there is so little content at the moment, there are only a few situations). Best pve launcher - Gjallahorn Best pvp launcher - Truth Best pvp auto rifle - Suros Best pve Sunsinger exotic - HoPF Best pve Defender exotic - Helm of St 14 The list goes on and although certain opinions may vary and there is competition between certain items for a particular title e.g. Best pvp hand canon (TLW or Thorn), my point is that there are simply too many players, and not enough equally effective yet varied gear in the game. Players don't feel unique. Many of us feel like just another rain drop in a sea full of other players with the same armour, loadouts, and weapons as each other. So when someone gets something that's a little rare, it becomes the token of their snowflake status. The 1 thing that makes them stand out as a little different than most. And when Xur sells it, that snowflake falls into the ocean and dissolves into just another rain drop. TLDR: Not enough customisation The problem wouldn't exist if there were WAY more exotics in the game, and a more consistent, yet time consuming and difficult way of acquiring them (instead of Xur)

Imagine if there were 90 exotic weapons in the game (10 per weapon class). And the ONLY way to get each one was by completing a long exotic bounty (similar in length to urn of Sacrifice), varying from pvp objectives to pve missions depending on the weapon. The snowflake syndrome wouldn't be an issue

And it's fine anyway because I very rarely actually see an identical looking warlock to mine, despite wearing the praxic. IB gear is a lot more scarce than I thought.

1 RispondiLast week's omnigul NF, I joined two other titans with helm of saint 14. Funnest strike evar! Wish I could pair up with hos14 clad titans more often. If xur could only sell it again for those without.

When everyone starts using the exact same gear and formulating similar loadouts, some players may find such a thing dull, boring, and underwhelming, especially with the game's already limited customization options. I don't mind either way, but it's... not exactly a hard concept to grasp. I don't get why so many people ask why this is a thing.

5 RisposteIf people want to stand out, then they should get good with the sword and post on lfg offering to run it for groups. If they have a Gjally, offer to come in and help drop crota's shield. Gear doesn't make you a snowflake, what you do with it does.

Because they are nolonger a snowflake. they are not special anymore they are now just like everyone else.. and not wanted more than anyone else for a raid anymore which means they wont get asked anymore.

Yeah I don't get it either. I could understand the argument if gear actually was earned in the game, but it's not. It's just RNG and it never takes into account performance. Hence, arguing that you earned something through RNG is just stupid. At that point it's better that everyone gets access to the weapon, it makes pugging easier.

3 RispostePeople say that buying from xur is not earning your item. Those people who say this will commonly say such things as 'I earned my <insert weapon/ armour>. Every body who purchased <insert weapon/ armour> didnt earn it and are scrubs. Let me translate this: [i]i am aware i earned my <insert weapon/ armour> via RNG and no skill was involved but now that others got lucky on xurs RNG, i wont look so special, people wont say 'wow look he has the <insert weapon/ armour>' and i am an insecure person. Im going to the forums to let out some stream and hope i can find others in the same situation as me. But ultimately i know i didnt earn shit because its all RNG [/i] ----- Because ultimately this is what xur is. An RNG. Just as you received yours in a random drop, so did others, only difference is that they used coins to pick from the RNG. You didnt earn <insert weapon/ armour> via xur or by random drops after strikes or chests. Both are RNG. Just as you can get carried in a raid to a chest without shooting and receive <insert weapon/ armour> from xur.. You can also go to xur on a friday and receive <insert weapon/ armour> via his rng. Facts only. I am unbias, both are ultimately RNG

People have this idea where they feel as if they earned something with RNG. Perfect example: Kid gets a Gjallarhorn or exotic in crucible yet is in the bottom 2 so he definitely earned that.

I can see why people might care if somebody gets an exotic from Xur after playing for... say twenty-odd hours because he sold while they got the same exotic hundreds of hours later from the raid/nightfall. I understand that, because people think they "earned" the exotic because they waited patiently for it. Sadly, in a game where getting the best items from doing the worst/nothing in a PvE strike or a PvP game, things get a little complicated. Nearly everything in this game is based on luck, that includes the toughest modes the game has to offer. People saying they "earned" that Icebreaker got it from doing a nightfall (for example), because they think they deserve it. And yet I can get coins (sometimes less than the weekly heroic!) doing five nightfalls. Xur and his prices complicate things further, because people think they earn coins from doing the weekly. And that is true, getting coins from the weekly is in fact a guaranteed drop, thus you "earn" them from doing something instead of having to go through a virtual lottery. Getting motes of lights of light from blue engrams is not earning, nor is getting that Mida-Multi from a purple engram earning it. The complication lies with those two ideas: Getting something hundreds of hours randomly vs. using something that counted as "earned" to acquire the same item. Do you believe randomly picking up a penny counts towards a penny [i]earned[/i]?

Because they believe that buying something with strange coins is easier than rng. They dont understand that rng can give it to you first try or 100th try and xur may sell something and he may not... Same shit

I've been praying Xur would sell gjallarhorn so my buddy can get it. I already have it. I don't give a crap if he sells what I have. The better equipped the people I play with are, the smoother everything goes. I have more fun beating the crap out of an enemy than having to wipe multiple times.
