I find this game to be great fun and after playing it since release I find I am still not bored of hopping on and playing practically every day. I do wish the story was told better in game and not require studying grimoire in an attempt to further understand everything. But honestly I am not going to give this game bad marks for story since I know all stories pale in comparison to Last of Us. For an FPS game the story is fine if not compelling due to how little is still actually known. I think some people expect so much that they forget reality. I dont allow my expectations to rule my judgement of a game.
Its a fun game excellent mechanics anyone who says other wise is talking bs. But it is a huge disappointment from what we thought it was going to be. This game has the potential to piss people off more than any game I've played. Which I think is why a lot of people hate on it.
lol most disappointing game of the year is an understatement probably the most overhyped and disappointing game of all-time definitely the most disappointing game of this 10's decade so far. So Bungie should be proud
Some people need to realise what disappointment means. It doesnt mean its bad, but to blindly state that you love destiny regardless of what other ppl say is nothing short of lunacy. Destiny is a good/fun game up to a point but i dare anyone to go watch the vids/interviews that were done pre-launch & then not feel disappointed at what destiny has become. Destiny should have been something else entirely, how ppl cant see that is beyond me, its good that you enjoy this game but when you take into account what was removed then the only word to describe destiny is mediocre. And if you think that this game is gonna get better then you are deluded.
The problem with Destiny is Activision. This mofos made the original creative team (almost all of them from bungie) to disband couse they didnt like the final game....
I completely agree with him.
The game doesn't suck, but it's not what it could have been. I was hoping for some massive world full of hundreds of people farming, PvPing while representing their factions, vehicles everywhere, ships flying overhead, player trading, dueling, testing weapon loadouts and perk setups with target dummies, grinding factions for rep for new crafting recipes, and the bottom line, earning gear. Not even earning everything, just earning SOMETHING. Destiny has none of that. It's a very simple, repetitive, lottery game. It's like playing slots. You pull the handle (which is about as difficult as strikes and nightfalls are) and hope that Gjallarhorn drops. That's the entire game. Then you take your Gjallarhorn into a lame, uneventful raid and pull your trigger a few times so you can get loot that you don't even need so it can be replaced in 2 months when the grind is refreshed.
When I look back on why I did something, I don't even have an answer. I'm farming.... for loot. Well why do I need loot? I don't know. To collect it? Most of it is useless and either sharded or sits in my vault. Even then, for like 2 weeks the new raid is exciting, then it's a chore. OK I have everything I need, I can clearly breeze through this place. So what am I doing it for? I have the level cap, I have my weapons. What am I earning by repeating this over and over for the next 6-8 weeks? Am I just farming for the sake of farming like people who play the slots just need to keep pulling that lever?
I loved grinding Final Fantasy. I loved grinding WoW. They had such massive worlds that you could do so much in, in so many different ways. Destiny is point and shoot, all classes played relatively equally, you take the same paths to the same places, and pull your slot lever 5, 10, 50, 100 times a day, and see what you end up with as a collectible.
I have a vault full of God knows what that I don't care about. In WoW, I could name all of the 100 gear pieces I have stored and how I got them, what it took, and how long I used them ALL for. I have my seasons 4 and 5 gladiator gear, that tells a story. I have my trinkets and weapons from old raids and dungeons from Vanilla and BC where it was an absolute nightmare to get anything. I have some really unique drops, some really hard earned Realm First titles, I have some long time grind recipes, and so on.
I wish this game had those elements. Had that massive and vast feeling to it where it takes months to achieve something that not many do/can, but all will strive for. I enjoyed working my way to being one of the better PvP players, one of the better Raiders, one of the more grinding daily runners, and so on.
I log onto Destiny, pick up a stack of bounties, half of which are completed by killing thrall in The Dark Within or The Dark Beyond missions, running 1 or 2 level 14 strikes, or patrolling earth, go into the crucible to watch people coming in last getting the best drops while I get nothing for playing fairly consistently strong, maybe farm and glitch my way through a boring raid crossing my fingers for the loot that probably wont have the perks or stats i want but doesn't matter because as long as it has light on it that's all you need, and then log off. This is a typical day in Destiny.
So yes, I can honestly say this game is a huge disappointment. I, like Angry Joe, was hoping for a lot more.
Go somewhere else Destiny is great and worth the money. It's activision that's laying the DLC on. Just like COD. That's why I don't play COD. (Not worth the money)
Check out the channel BDobbinsftw. This guy trashes destiny and call of duty in the most analytical way I have ever seen done. His arguments are mostly deductive but very well composed.
I think a lot of people are confusing "disappointing" with "worst". What other game were people hyped about? I personally enjoy destiny but totally see why it's the most disappointing.
People forgot about Watch_Dogs already? I know it's number 3 on the list but I felt if anything was the biggest disappointment of 2014, it'd be Watch-Dogs. At least I still play Destiny.
